PTR: A Spring Fling on the Dark Side ...2 Muggles Celebrate in Diagon Alley!

Yes we were never DTD fans either.........not much there for us. Do like the look of The Boathouse that's opened up, but can get decent food like that elsewhere so don't think we'll venture across anytime soon.

But it's so close now your trip..........bet you're just a little excited..........:D

Yes, I will admit....the excitement is building :) . Its starting to feel like departure day is roaring up quickly!

I'm always a day before packer.

That's so funny you have winter and summer tires. Around where I live, we have all season tires, as I haven't seen one season tires for quite a few years.

Can't believe your even closer now!

Our summer tires are all seasons, but I can't imagine not having dedicated winter tires after the last two winters......so much snow, driving has been horrible! Jake and Steve both have the winters, I only have all seasons for my car (but I drive my vehicle far less often, only about 2 miles to and from work....so they're not really necessary).

Ah, living in the Great White North...isn't it grand? :rolleyes2

I hear you on the packing.

Packing for our February trip was the worst! I had to pack/wear some freezing-weather clothes for NJ, for the travel part. Then mid-weight clothes and even fleeces because Florida wasn't super hot at that time. And then hot clothes because there were hot days. And then swimsuits and all that.

August is much easier when it's all just hot-weather clothes (makes the suitcase a lot lighter too!).

I dread the thought of figuring out the packing for the Christmas trip with two teenagers in tow. Thank the Lord for our free checked bag each with Jetblue, and laundry facilities in the villa!!!

8 soon to be 7 more days for you to go......

 :cheer2: :cool1:

(hey mac....there's still time for you to book a plane ticket and plan to meet us there ;) )

So you won't be taking any photos with Steve in them? :duck:

Oooohhhh......that's hitting below the belt :p .

But you know how it is.....grey haired guys are "distinguished" (Harrison Ford, Sean Connery :worship:).

Grey haired gals, on the other hand, look.......old :rolleyes1 .

I am sick  .... again :headache: .

I wasn't feeling quite right on Monday night last week, and by Wednesday I had developed a rather irritating, sniffly cold. Steve had had it the week prior, it lasted a few days, then it was gone....so I had anticipated mine would follow the same pattern. By Saturday, I had croup (second round of 2015)....then the cough started on Sunday. And that cough has continued....and instead of improving as the week goes on, it seems to be getting worse....and I am beginning to think I might cough up a lung :sad2: . Mucous is my middle name.

Over the course of the week, I think I've tried every known decongestant, expectorant and cough suppressant known to man. I am sure stockholders at Shoppers Drug Mart will be thrilled at their profits this month just with my purchases alone :rolleyes1. Unfortunately, none of them seem to get me through the night and I'm so tired I can hardly see straight. This morning's 2:40 am coughing jag is certainly making its effects known this afternoon. I could use a nap in the worst way.

If it doesn't show some vast improvement by Monday, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and either get an appointment with my doctor (if that's even possible.....he's often booked solid for days at a time) or visit the clinic (an even worse option.....6-8 hour waits are normal in our area). Our Canadian health care system is the pits. It may be "free" (not....we pay dearly in our taxes) but its certainly not efficient. At any rate, I can't imagine hacking and coughing for two and a half hours on an airplane.....nothing like saying HEY, here's my germs!, come share with me! :crazy2:

A portion of one of Steve's fillings fell out yesterday (he was jumping down from a platform at work, hit hard and away went the filling....), so he's off to the dentist for a quick repair this afternoon. Jake went to get his winter tires off earlier this week and found that two of his summers had cracked, so he's at the garage this afternoon getting his vehicle fixed up.

And did I mention....its SNOWING today? Not kidding. I'm so annoyed, that's all I'm going to say about that.

Weeks like this make it feel like we NEED a holiday!!!!

On a happy note, we should be on the road one week from right about now, en route to Syracuse. Assuming, of course, we're still in one piece by then :rolleyes2.

Hope you feel better soon. Horrible when you are ill before a holiday but at least you will be going to a warmer climate and the sun always helps when not feeling 100%. Good luck with the doctors appointment if you need it. We are so lucky where we live in England. Always get a same day appointment but not everyone here as fortunate, especially in the inner cities. I just thank God for our NHS. I can't imagine having a system like they have in the US.
We have had glorious weather over the last couple of weeks, really making me long for Florida sunshine and The Discovery Cove lazy river even more!

oh Gina! I am so sorry to hear you are struggling right now. That is always so disheartening before a trip. If it were me, I would go to the doctor sooner rather than later, even if it means a wait. I know we always hate to go because its usually viral so they can't give you anything, but if there is any chance that its bacterial, you could be started on your meds and recovery well before you leave for your trip.

Regardless, just thought I would share that just my husband and I went for my 50th birthday in October 2012, and I ended getting sick the first day there, and my husband a few days later. It made it a different type of trip, but we just took our time, went when we had the energy and slept, or sat in air conditioning at a movie or whatever, and still managed to have some fun.

Hope you recover well, and still find opportunities to share some together time away with Steve. :wave2:

Oh no.......hope you get better soon.........it's so unfair to be sick just before you set off..........and snow too!!! 6-8 hour waits?? Not good.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you..........

We are the same......we can get same day appointments with our doc or practice nurse. But we have friends and relatives who live elsewhere in the UK and have been told on several occasions call back in 2 weeks!! Unbelievable. We are so lucky in that respect.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, say it's not so....!!!

use a vaporizer in your room.
do the vicks with the towel over your head and run hot water in the sink......
maybe that will loosen up the mucous.
worth a try.

got you on my list for get well soon wishes....pixiedust:

if you still are feeling icky, but can fly, hit the closest walk in clinic (walgreens, walmart) and see a PA for meds if you don't get into your doc real soon.

Well it just isn't fair - really that's all there is to say Gina!! Well that and get better soon

I've had my share of illness over the last 4 weeks, causing me to pass out twice, so I can sympathise with you and only hope you are feeling a lot better for the holiday. I went to the walk in centre near us and it was a 2 hour wait, I managed to jump the queue after passing out there - so you could always give that a go if all else fails ;)

So sorry to hear of your troubles. That's Murphy's Law. All goes wrong when you want to leave. Here's hoping you get some rest this weekend and get better.

A week left - boy time does fly by.

Hugs to you and your family. :grouphug:

Here are a couple things to try while you wait to see a Dr. Get some local organic honey. Bring water to a rolling boil and mix in honey , a table spoon for one mug or if you are making a large batch a wooden spoon full. Add lemon juice to taste. Sounds simple but it does work, drink it hot

One more put Vicks on the soles of your feet , the pads just by your toes, you can also put between toes, wear socks to bed.

Netti rinse helps some too.

I hope you are feeling better soon!

Oh no! hope you are feeling better soon!! And snow?
Ditto on the vicks on the feet and lemon/honey water. Anything to loosen that mucous and coat the throat!:goodvibes

Hoping you get some rest soon!!

My wife does all of the above with the kids when they are sick. I laugh at it but it does seem to clear them up quickly...
Have a great vacation!

If it makes you feel any better it is snowing here too! And I don't have a Florida vacation to look forward to.... although I have a wedding in North Carolina in two weeks so I get a little mini trip. Feel better!

Have a great vacation!

Well, I have to say.....you guys are certainly good for the soul :goodvibes . Thanks so much for all the wonderful suggestions and kind thoughts. You brought me some much-needed smiles yesterday when I could have wholeheartedly indulged in a good cry.

I am happy to report that I feel a smidge better today.....well, more than a smidge. There's a noticeable improvement. I managed to only be up twice in the night in coughing fits, and they were mercifully short lived, so I got a better sleep than I have been having. I took my Momma's advice (yup, even big girls need to listen to their mothers!) and hit the sack nice and early, which I was more than delighted to do when I could hardly keep my eyes open. I still have the cough, sore throat and don't feel myself but its to a noticeably lesser degree today. Perhaps I am finally on the mend! I have promised Mom and Steve that if I'm not back to normal by Monday I will visit either the doctor or the clinic, regardless of the waits involved. I am hopeful, though, that today is a good sign and I'll be fit as a fiddle by the time we leave here on Thursday.

We added another small attraction to our itinerary this morning. One of the places opening up in the new Orlando Eye complex is a museum called Skeletons: Animals Unveiled, and I've been watching their Facebook page with growing interest as their opening day approaches. I had thought it would be a nice addition to our Orlando Eye day, but their regular admission price of $20 pp plus tax seemed steep, so we decided to take a pass (note that we're saving the Sea Life Aquarium and Madame Tussaude's Wax Museum for when we visit the Eye again on our Chistmas vacation with Jake and Sweetie in tow). Lo and behold, my daily Groupon email arrived in my email inbox this morning and what was being offereed? Skeletons tickets at 2 for $24! I was sold.

But now, I swear.....I'm not adding anything more to the itinerary, regardless of how incredible the price is. Honest. Perhaps I should cancel my Groupon emails for the next six days to avoid temptation :rotfl:.

Jake got his tires replaced yesterday afternoon, Steve's filling was fixed yesterday at the dentist (at no charge, no less), and the snow had stopped (those its still bone chillingly cold). All your positive thoughts, vibes and comments have definitely helped. I'm certainly less crabby than I was at this time yesterday (my bosses are super thankful for that, let me tell ya!). A big thanks to all my wonderful friends!

If it makes you feel any better it is snowing here too! And I don't have a Florida vacation to look forward to.... although I have a wedding in North Carolina in two weeks so I get a little mini trip. Feel better!

Here's to sunshine and warmth for both of us! :sunny:

The Weather Network shows highs in the mid to high 80's for every day of our trip, and almost all sunshine......I soooo hope that doesn't change over the next week!!!

Glad to hear you're doing better Gina.........you're right we're never too old to listen to mothers...........:)

I'm looking forward to seeing the eye too........looks like fun!!

6 days......wow.........

Glad you are feeling a little bit better Gina!

6-8 hours in the clinic? What? Oh my goodness. I would avoid that too!

Happy weekend and I hope you are back to feeling 100% by next week.

WOOT :thumbsup2

6 more sleeps!

so happy you are doing better!

Thank you!! :goodvibes

Glad to hear you're doing better Gina.........you're right we're never too old to listen to mothers...........:)

6 days......wow.........

The last 7 days have gone sooooo fast. I can't believe we leave this week .

Do you think you and your fellows will give the Eye a try when you visit again this fall?

Glad you are feeling a little bit better Gina!

Happy weekend and I hope you are back to feeling 100% by next week.

We always marvel at the Centra Care clinics in Orlando....those blue ones with the digital signs outside that list the wait time to see a doctor. They are regularly 10 minutes or less....and we're always like WOW :worship:. And some of them will even pick you up if you don't have your own transportation. I can't even imagine that!

We did our final shopping trips last night and this afternoon. The fridge is full of enough food to hopefully get Jake through until we return :) . Tomorrow I vow to pull out the luggage and start packing!

Yay.......this week!!!!! Woohoo.......:rainbow:

Definitely planning on going on the Eye and hopefully trying out a couple of the restaurants there.......Sugar Factory for one..........but I`ll only have one of my fellows with me this year.......DS isn`t coming. He has University commitments that have to take precedence this year.......not looking forward to him not coming with us. He`s fine about it.......it`s me that`s not....lol
