If you have a "great room"-paint color choice?

I moved into my condo last year and had the kitchen, dining area and living room all painted Benjamin Moore "Clay Beige". I think it is the perfect neutral. It does not seem to have any yellow or green undertones. I bought several different samples and tried them on the walls before I decided on Clay Beige. When I was trying to come up with a color, I read an article written by a decorator who said Clay Beige was her favorite neutral. I decided to give it a try and loved it.

I used Sherwin Williams "Jogging Path" when we built our house, my daughter used it when she built hers, and I have in my office. I have heard it described as "the perfect neutral". One of my managers and his wife recently redid their master bedroom; his wife demanded "Jogging Path" for that room, so a lot of people like it.

I had jogging path in my old house, from when it was Duron paint. I loved that color. It was my entire ground floor, since, they ALL ran together. There was another in the family, maybe called Titanium? Sadly, I don't know how it would look with wood trim. It was wonderful against white.

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to answer, I am still mulling it over. Obviously the majority of gone with some kind of beige or grey neutral, so it looks like I'm probably not going to win on the color question ;).

Our ceilings are not very tall (I would guess a standard 8'), so I know I really don't want to go with the same color as the walls (that's what's in there now, and it seems "closed in" to me, even with a neutral). What color should the ceiling be?

Our living/dining/family/hallway are all painted a darkish-gray. We have high ceilings, lots of natural light and white trim though. One hallway wall is a tad darker just to add some interest. You can't really tell by looking at it, it just seems like a different light is hitting it.

There are all kinds of whites that you can use. I'd pick one that has undertones of the paint color that you choose for your walls. For instance, I have a cream on my walls and went with Benjamin Moore's Cloud White for my trims and ceilings. It has a warm undertone that while it still looks white, coordinates smoothly with the cream. I have a very cool blue MB and ensuite, so I chose a white with cool blue undertones. Most paint lines will have a "whites" palette, or you could just opt for a paint that's tinted 2-3 shades lighter than your wall color.

Since your husband wants to keep it beigish (which I agree with), I'd make sure that you look around at other ways to add color to your room(s). New throw pillows, a table cloth, decorative containers of bright colors, throw blankets, rugs, paintings and other wall hangings will add to your room.

HM, that's very true. Right now we have a monstrosity of a leather sectional couch which is maroon (a color which I NEVER would have picked (truly hate), but it came free to us and is in great shape). We are lucky enough to have the Pella windows with built in blinds, so with my allergies we will most likely never have drapes/curtains. I'm going to have to find some great (cheap) wall art, rugs, and throw pillows!

Thanks again everyone, keep those ideas coming....

I love color and none of the rooms in my house are the same color even though you can see into several rooms at once. My entry way is Valspar Barista and my living room is Valspar Touch of Class. I think the brown and yellow/gold seem neutral but provide a richer color at the same time and the gold is very warming (especially with all the natural light I have during the winter). My front door is very bright red (inside and out) and the Barista brown helps balance that out. I have sheers in my living room that have a print with creams, tans, and hints of red and brown.

If you don't want to paint your walls with samples, you could try painting poster boards and hold them up in different locations to see how the paint will look in different lighting.

I'd definitely look at finding some throw blankets that you can use to cover portions of the leather couch since you don't liket the color and pillows that will coordinate.

We're tired of the colors (gold, maroon, green) in our family room area but the darn couch which is a patterned fabric is really limiting my options. And we can't afford to go buying new seats anytime soon. I wish I had a one-color couch (even if it were a color I don't like too well).

I have Grassland in my family room. Online it looks grey. It's not - it's a very soft green.

This is close to the Benjamin Moore color that we painted our great room and carried threw our kitchen and "old" living room. They were all pretty interconnected and we loved the warmth of the color. The room did have 9 foot ceilings and a lot of light.

I would use it again if given the choice. I do like the "Willow" someone linked.
