April no Buy - Lets get an early start

Updated my post on page one.... as predicted, Saturday included Costco, so it was definitely NOT a no buy (although our cashback check from last year and a $30 return helped soften the blow). But stayed home yesterday and did yard work, so it was a no-buy.... and kind of planning another no buy today, but it will depend on DH's schedule.................P

Whoops..... looks like today will NOT be a "no-buy"..... I FELL into a sale on Disney Vera Bradley AND Disney Alex and Ani and did some shopping! (A few for me, a few for gifts.) I don't own a SINGLE SOLITARY designer/status purse, but couldn't pass up the sale on the Disney Vera bag!! And the Alex and Ani is a gift for my cousin.... oh well. There's always tomorrow for a no-buy!.........P

Not only is today a "no-buy" for me, but I managed to make (using the term loosely) three times my usual pay! How, you ask? Well....long story short DH cashed a check that had expired (he didn't realize it and the bank apparently didn't realize it either). Because he cashed it and it bounced, the full amount came out of our checking account 8 days before payday!! (DH gets paid monthly.) So, of course, we ended up overdrawn and had several checks that were presented for payment and the bank covered them but assessed us lots of $$ in overdraft fees.

Since the bank should not have cashed an expired check in the first place, I put it back on them and between two phone calls and a trip to my local branch, I was able to get them to refund me $225 in fees! Since I only take home about $69/day as a substitute teacher, that is like making at least 3 x my pay today!

In addition to that good news, I packed up a brown bag dinner for DS to eat between track practice and robotics meeting tonight.... so no $$ spent there! And I'm up to 17/20 no buy days.... so I should definitely make it to this month's goal.... and I even have a little of my $50 "fun money" left to spend ......................P

14/15 Days So Far

4/1-No buy #1
4/2-No buy #2 (I needed some toiletries at CVS, but I had a 30% off coupon, and extra bucks, so it ended up not costing me anything...so I bought, but didn't spend!)
4/3-$15.95 on one of those Dunkin Donuts iced coffee cards...that price for 10 coffees is a really good deal, and I've made myself promise that once those 10 are gone, no more Dunkin stops for the month!
4/4-$40.15 on a dinner out with an old friend
4/5-No buy #3
4/6-$11.15 on lunch with another friend, took my dog to the vet for an injury
4/7-bought new running shoes, running is a huge part of my life and I'm very prone to injury from old/bad shoes so unfortunately this is a necessity
4/8-no buy #4
4/9-no buy #5
4/10-no buy #6
4/11-bought lunch at work, totally unnecessary...oops
4/12-bought some stuff at CVS I needed, but then walked out of there with a few extra purchases for sure
4/13-bought a coffee and a snack...unnecessary
4/14-another necessary trip to CVS where I bought more than I needed
4/15-no buy #7
4/16-no buy #8
4/17-no buy #9
4/18-no buy #10
4/19-oil change for my car and lunch with a friend
4/20-no buy #11
4/21-Some flea/tick stuff and a joint supplement for my dog-managed to just get him that and no new toys though! (He's very spoiled)
4/22-no buy #12
4/23-had to get some contact lens solution, but thankfully CVS sent me a 30% coupon so the damage was less than usual

12/15 no buys

I'm not sure if I'm going to make it....I have quite a few spends planned in the next few days (I owe a coworker lunch, I have a haircut appointment, I have a coffee date with another friend) so I'll be cutting it close for sure.

I've definitely done a better job at cutting down on individual spending, but so much of my money has gone to meeting up with friends! I wish I had more ideas for free things to do!

Done pretty well so far, this month I've spent $37 on things not in the budget (aka groceries (which have also been pretty low!) and cat and dog food!)

That's pretty darned close to a no buy! LOL
