Drinks Around the World...are we insane???

As someone who's done this 3+ times (not overly proud of that) before getting sober 3 years ago just a few tips I learned happily and the hard way.

Preface: Yes I know not everyone is an animal and most people are responsible that aren't on vacation trying to drink their weight in 3 hours

1. Don't be dumb and drink the 100 proof Rumplemintze in Germany (experience)
2. Stop, enjoy your drink, and enjoy the scenery. People try to finish before the next country and don't make it around.
3. Everyone else you're around is not as socially lubed up as you are and you are not that funny. The parents nervously laughing are doing so because their child may have just learned a new word.
4. Have fun with it, but remember you are in a place of Magic and help keep other peoples days Magical. There are hundreds of bars between your house and Disney you can get nuts at.
5. This one I cannot stress enough. From a CM, it takes one complaint for the boys in light blue to keep an eye on you. They will cut you off quick and ask you to calm down off to the side first. You only get one warning.
6. If you dont have a Yard in the UK then you did it wrong and your achievement does not count... I don't make the rules.
7. Take this awesome feeling to Jellyrolls after illuminations and keep on going.. The popcorn is a scam though, spicy so you drink more.

Hope this helps... Have fun and stay classy

Excellent advice. It's only fun if you go slowly and enjoy everything that each pavilion has to offer. Take your time and keep it classy! :thumbsup2

Have succeeded once, all other attempts got killed once we hit Germany. Seem to always get tied up there for a while.

My husband & I wanted to do this, but we honestly knew we would never make it. So in order to try all the different drinks (ok maybe not all, but at least 1 per country) we shared drinks & we still do on our trips.

Try a Mort Subite or Delirium Tremens beer some time. I think they might be butch enough for ya.

Don't forget--Epcot has some moonshine waiting for you....<g>

Hahah I'll pass.. I did the real Delirium Tremens, hence the reason why I'm sober for 3 years now. I do find it funny that there is a beer named after it though. Darn near killed me.

(I know the response was not directed at me, I just saw something humorous in it)

For our anniversary, my boyfriend and I are taking a trip to Disney World in May. We'll be going to all the parks, and lately we've been talking about Epcot and toying with the idea of doing Drinks Around the World (one drink in each pavilion in the world showcase, all in one day). Are we crazy to even attempt this? How many of you have tried, and how many have actually made it? Any advice/suggestions are welcome! :thumbsup2
Just my 2 cents...Never ride Mission: SPACE afterwards. Just sayin'. :charac2:Otherwise DAW is fun, if you are sensible, nasty if you get out of line. Some of the drinks might be stronger than you are accustomed to. Snacks and water between will help alot. There is no law that says you have to DAW all in one day. If you don't finish, start again in the morning.:flower1:

This is a great tradition! We do it once every trip. Know your limits and stay safe.

Never been able to complete drinking around the world, tried three times. Will be back again in September to have another go. :drinking:

The first time I was able to complete Canada thru Germany.

The second time I started in Mexico and again stopped in Germany.

The most recent time I skipped countries and went to those counties that had my favorite drinks. Mexico for Margaritas from the bar inside the pavilion, skipped Norway &China, Beer in Germany, Banfi Rose Regale in Italy, skipped American, Saki in Japan, skipped Morocco, Gray Goose slush and a white wine in France, Hard Cider in Great Britain and skipped Canada.

When I say skipped we still toured and sometimes had snacks at those counties just did not drink.

I :worship: to all those that can complete the challenge.

I've done it numerous times for Flower and Garden and twice during Food and Wine which is great because you get the passport to take home. The biggest key is knowing your limits and I really don't think the Morocco bathrooms are where you want to find out you went too far. The other key is making sure you're ready for the sticker shock that goes with it.

We are planning on doing this next summer. Both boys will be 21 and bringing a couple of friends, as well as DH and I. We will be in Epcot for 2 days so no need to do every country in one day. We have a spreadsheet with drinks we want to try. Tipsy Ducks in Love and the Grand Marnier slush. We have been trying our hand at mixology here at home so it will be nice to try the professionals' mix.

Skipping regular beers that we can get here at the store.

We are also traveling with DD18 and DS5 so we aren't looking to just get drunk. We want to try the beverages along with the foods.

There are also some drinks on the resort menus we are interested in. Thinking about making Drink passports as souvenirs versus the tshirts.

Where is the Grand Mariner Slush located?

This is one of our goals for this year, even if we accomplish half that will be satisfying enough. We attempted last year but by the time we got to france, we took the gateway for a much needed lunch at the Boardwalk! I know, only a few more left but with the May heat there was no way we would have survived... Maybe this year :)

So....if you had to choose only one drink in each country What would you choose? I am taking my daughter for her 21st bday. I don't think we will make it if we each have a drink, but we can if we share a drink in each country. I'm looking for your recommendations....here's a little about us...we both love wine & hate beer, mixed drinks are good - the more girly the better. Favorite non-wine drink would be rum followed by tequila. Another question...she will actually be turning 21 on this trip. We plan on being at Epcot on her actual birthday, should I anticipate any issues with her id? Here in Illinois they have a giant "under 21" logo on it...but her birthday will clearly show that she's 21. People here have told me that local places won't accept her id until she gets a new one without the logo...which she will obviously do once we get back from WDW.

Thanks for your thoughts :)

My friends and I do this at least twice a year. We just got back from Flower and Garden fest and our shirts had 15 opportunities for check marks. Each F&G booth was represented and if the country didn't have a booth then we used the original country. Out of our group of 6, 3 of us managed to get all 15 check marks. The booths made it easy since the samples are like half the size.

When we did F&W last year we had every country/booth represented which gave us the chance to get over 30 checks. Needless to say, no one got close. In fact, for F&W we did teams since we had 10 people. 2 groups of 5. You had to get a drink at all 11 original countries and then any additional booths helped count towards your teams total. Which ever team had the most points won.

My advice, like others have said is have a good breakfast. I usually get a bottle of water every 3 countries and down it. If you go the shirt route, make sure you consider the weather for that time of year. Last weekend it was torture on Saturday and I probably would have died had we gotten dark colored shirts. We usually stick to white shirts for this reason.

We get our shirts made through a girl on Etsty. She sells pre-made designs with the check marks but we usually design the front and have her clean it up for us for an additional fee.

For your first go you have to go with the drink you feel best represents the country.

Mexico - Tequila
Norway - Not a lot of options but the liquor shot in the bakery is something else.
China - Plum Wine
Germany - BEER
Italy - limoncello
US - Red Stag Lemonade
Japan - Sake
Morocco - Beer
France - Wine
UK - Guiness
Canada - Beer

As long as her date of birth is on the ID I doubt you'll run into any trouble.
