Free Dining for Canadians??

I recall last summer a free dining promotion for Canadians came out late, like June or maybe even July for mid August to sometime in the fall-- I don't remember the exact dates-- but I do remember the Canadian offer began earlier than the one offered to the general public for the fall season. Since we had done Disney during last year's March Break I couldn't convince hubby to go again:worried: for free dining but this year we are going in August so I am hoping that the same promotion for Canadians comes out. Just wondering if anyone took advantage of this last year and if anyone heard rumours if a similar offer would be available this year for Canadians?:thanks:

I have friends and family members who took advantage of it. We already had fd from a Bounceback offer so we were covered. I guess we'll have to wait and see if fd is offered at all this Sept./Oct first. I believe fd for Canadians started Aug. 17th last year. But no free dining offer came out in 2013 during the month of August. So only time will tell.

We had FD last year. It came out the very end of June (it was less than a week after the 60 day mark for our stay Aug 22-27 - I remember being worried about losing our FP+ when switching the reservation to FD).

If the exchange rate is any indicator, they're going to have to start offering Canadian deals to entice us South. :(

We also took advantage of this offer last summer. We had already made a reservation onsite through Expedia and I was also very worried about losing our FP+ selections by switching, as we were within our 60 days (like 4-5 days after we made our selections!) but I called to make the reservation with FD and the CM made sure to "connect" our FP+ with the new reservation so everything stayed the same. I then wrote to Expedia to cancel. Everything worked out very well. The FD offer started on August 17th for Canadians and August 29th or 30th for general public. I remember since we were already checking in on August 17th, even before the offer! We are now going with FD again this August since we booked the bounceback offer last summer. :yay:

We took advantage of this last year. We were bummed at first because our checkin date was August 24th and free dining was starting on the day we checked out. Then a month or so before we left they added the Canadian free dining starting August 17th. A quick phone call to Disney and we were good to go!

How much do you think free dining saves? Now that my kids are teens the last trip was a killer on the food budget. I am looking at the pricing for some places and honestly-we love Biergarten but it is really expensive for dinner for 4 people and we are just waaay too full if we do it for lunch. You do have to tip on top of your free dining too, is that correct?

With 2 teens you will make out like bandits on the dining plan! There is nothing like being able to tell them to eat whatever they want. If you do any of the buffet/AYCE meals or character things ... no brainer. I'm sure others will tell you that the DP free or not doesn't make sense but even for just hubby and myself we were very happy. If you go to a place where they can have a milkshake for their drink and still get a dessert those empty legs will fill up no problem.
Yes you still need to tip. I would venture that even if you get a RO discount and add the DP the fact that you're feeding 2 teens you'll come out ahead. Have a blast

That was fantastic for you :) I am hoping for this happens for this summer too pixiedust: Did adding the FD to your reservation affect your FP+ ?

Your fp's will not be affected. :)

Thank you, fingers crossed, the summer discount was only going to save $130 US, because i purchased MM And tickets before the price increase and the dollars nose dive, i did not bother with it

As the PP said, it did not affect our FP+ reservations. Sending pixie dust your way that you get the free dining promo! pixiedust:

They usually release the fall free dining for Canadians in May sometime.

We had it last time we went in the fall 2012 and it saves you a lot of money if you use more counter service and avoid sit down meals.

We ended up paying well over $500 in gratuities at our sit down meals over 15 days.

I live in Canada, but always get free dining with the U.S. offer. What is the difference between that and the Canadian offer?

Thanks! :)

Sometimes they have it for both but the last year we went it was just for Canadians in the fall.

There is no difference.

The offer is exactly the same. The only difference is, last year it was available for Canadians to book beginning Aug. 17th (I think). The American offer didn't begin until two weeks later.

Thanks for the replies! I am still a little confused, though. We booked the U.S. offer for free dining last year in May for December 2014 free dining.

Canadian free dining comes out separately & can only be booked by Canadians.

For example, US free dining came out for fall last year, but only included Aug 31 forward. A month or so later (probably to draw more Canadians) the Canadian offer came out & started Aug 17th.

Those Canadians with trips in early Sept weren't affected as they already had FD thru the US deal (I have no idea if more rooms at certain resorts were opened up with FD exclusively for Canadians or not). This benefitted people like me who were planning a trip at the end of Aug & could now take advantage of FD while US costomers could not.

HTH!

We got the offer via email. It was a great deal since we were 3 adults and 1 child. This year we will be 2 adults and 1 child for 10 nights at PoR and i hope to get a deal again. We are even willing to change hotels if need be. :earsgirl:princess::earboy2::tinker:

With all the free dining chatter on the other boards of FD beacomimg available may 1 for GP my fingers are crossed that early dates are releasd for august for us again :). I am also REALLY hoping they do not make us wait six extra weeks for the release ;)
