Won raffle for 500 points- looking for suggestions!

Thanks everyone. I solved the availability problem by finding a family member who had DVC and checking things through there. I'm *very* happy with the rooms we ended up with. One night in a bungalows at the Poly for 8 people (how do they fit 8? looks like 6 to me) and 3 nights at Bay Lake Tower in a 3bd MK view villa! Had some points leftover for overflow- we're going to bring friends down there and I think we'll have more than the 8 and 12 occupancy can hold. You all were right that 500 points was huge... feel so lucky. Have gone to WDW many times, but never thought I could stay in such nice rooms.

Are you using the overflow points to rent the extra people a room? I couldn't tell the way it was written. The occupancy limit is there for a reason, and only people on the reservation will receive magic bands.

Yes butsy113, we won't overflow the rooms beyond their occupancy limit (though it sounds like it could be tight even under that limit!). I'm trying to use the extra 43 points to get one night in a 1 bdrm at BLT for my friends beyond the 12 that will fit in the 3 bdrm - but I haven't heard back from the holder of the points to see if she can purchase an extra point (it costs 44). We'll just pay cash for the other nights at BLT for the extra folks and split the cost among everyone (so nobody gets jealous of not getting to stay in the original rooms). For the first night at the poly, we're getting the single cast member in our group to use her discount to book a standard room at the poly to hold 4 extra - and we'll split that cost also.

I'm so looking forward to this trip. Can't wait for September! Thanks everyone.

congratulations! whoever put up the point (i.e., the owner) will have to book for you. starting working with her asap!

Curious what you paid for raffle...was it a $5 or $10 ticket raffle or was it an auction type thing? I wonder what the owners made total? I ask because my DDs play travel ball and I have considered donating some points as a fundraiser.

And I wonder if it's better to offer up a point allotment or make a booking/reservation and offer that up (since most people don't know what DVC points are, maybe a resie at WDW would be more catchy)?

The problem with offering say a "5-night stay" that you have already booked is that it may limit who will big on it, because if you can't travel those dates, you won't bid on it. While many people aren't famliar of DVC, I would think a fairly simple explanation could be provided in an auction. For instance "200 disney vacation club points that can be used in multiple options from 10 nights in a deluxe studio to 3 nights in a 2-bedroom villa. Options for stays include ***list resorts***. Must book for travel between XXXX and YYYYY. Winners booking options subject to availability of units."

Good for you on the Bungalow. That would be the only way I would spend the points on a night there - if I won it.

I do have to say though - I think sleeping 8 in those Bungalows will be pretty cramped, but for one night I don't think it'll be a big deal.

I would never spend them either..... but as it turns out, my wife's grand parents would spend two years of their points for two nights in october at the end of one of our trips and invite us along......
