Disney getting into river cruising???

It looks like Disney is teaming up with AmaWaterways to test the River Cruise Business. It feels kind of similar to the deal they had with Premier Cruise Line to learn the Cruise business before launching DCL with their own ships. What do you thing the odds are they are testing the River cruise business before Disney Cruise Line launches their own River Boats?

This is with ABD or Adventures by disney. River cruising is a hot business right now and yes people think they may end up creating their own river cruise line soon after.

Running their own River Boats would be a perfect fit for Disney Cruise Line & Adventures By Disney. A Premium 200 person floating hotel filled with everyone on a high end super immersive Adventures By Disney vacation. They would control the entire experience and keep all the profits. DCL already has all the infrastructure to staff the ships and handle logistics. ABD can handle all the excursions and tours.

On the most recent podcast, Pete was speculating that if the trial they recently announced works, DCL might just purchase the company they were partnering with.

That's doubtful cruising doesn't seem to be popular in the Great Lakes like it is with the river cruises and major Caribbean, Alaskan, Mediterranean, etc. lines. I live less than 20 minutes from Lake Michigan and the only thing you ever hear about is a ferry from Wisconsin to Michigan. Disney wouldn't make any money doing something like that.

It's somewhat popular, but I don't think a lot of people know about it. If Disney did it, it would be hugely popular! It would give them a presence up north and attract people/families that don't/can't travel to Florida and California often. People would come out in droves to experience Disney a little closer to home.

Still think it's doubtful European river cruising is really a hot ticket right now. Also they are doing this through a separate company. Rumors are that if its successful they'll try to buy the company or start their own. We'll have to wait and see I guess.
