I miss the Maelstrom ride so much.

I liked it too but really, how many people actually did the ride and stayed for the movie. Yah, not that many. I will miss the feel of it and the movie.

I miss everything that has been subtracted from studios and EPCOT over the last 15 years...

The attendance goes up with natural inflation every year - barring worldwide economic catastrophe...

How on earth can they have a net negative in attractions at any park is beyond me.

Right...wdw consumers are (frankly...me included) dumb

Lots of people did the ride, as evident by the wait times that I typically experienced. Of those folks, probably 50% or less stayed for the movie. Regardless of whether or not you did, the fact remains that the overall Maelstrom attraction was popular and beloved by many. This wasn't about removing a dying ride in need of "help". Rather, it is a blatant, short-sighted attempt to capitalize on the Frozen craze (they're a few years late to that dance, by the way - good topic for another thread), and in the process, they're removing a classic attraction and replacing it with the round peg (Frozen) in a square hole (Norway Pavilion of WS). As already mentioned by Tonka, Frozen has no place in EPCOT, especially WS.

We've been like 8 times in the last 8 years and only ridden it once. Our DD was scared of it after riding it. To me it was OK except that it was nice to have a ride in WS where there are so few. I can't say I'll miss it, but having said that, I am not one to be nostalgic about rides. The only thing they took away that I ever missed was the Tiki Room (which was returned to me) and the Adventurer's Club. Other than that, I tend to believe the bigger problem is when they take away and don't replace with something. At least this will be replaced. A vocal minority will hate it no matter what, and certainly in this case because they dared to put characters in World Showcase (even though they are already friggin EVERYWHERE in World Showcase).

Question to the original poster - "It's not the same for us now"...does this mean that you will stop going? Or are you just stating that it's not the same. (Which I will agree with No Maelstrom is not the same as Maelstrom)

Personally, I feel the ride had to go. It was dated and the mold in the attraction was seriously getting out of control. Frozen is huge, absolutely huge, it needs a permanent spot somewhere and I feel this makes sense. The Norway pavilion is really no big loss, I look forward to what Disney conjures up for Frozen.

Jimmy Thick- The Norway pavilion, just Let It Go...

EPCOT was not meant to be a platform for Disney animation...

At least not in this manner.

They could have had anna and Elsa narrate a new ride for Scandanavia...but that wouldn't sell crap, photopass, and character breakfasts

What I find interesting is that no one complains about a character restaurant in Norway, just a character ride.
People do complain about that just not as vocal. The problem with Norway is they are taking so much away from the country and turning it into a mini frozen land. The countries in world showcase are supposed to represent the cultures and show people what they are like.

So I would assume that this is the same feeling for the boat ride in mexico?

Yup, still less vocal.

The fact that people assume that Frozen is set in Norway or that the style of the fashions is even close to traditional wear is offensive to Norwegians. In fact, Kristoff's character has been said to be offensive to, if not even racist against, the indigenous Sami people of Scandinavia.

Epcot was not supposed to be a theme park to begin with...

If you go to the parks, all you see is little girls dressed as Elsa. You hardly see any other princess represented anymore, thats a huge factual statement. The Norway pavilion had its day, it used to be nice, but it was never great, a Frozen pavilion has potential to be great. And it will.

Jimmy Thick- If you really want culture, go to Norway, not a theme park pavilion.

Frozen belongs in fantasyland not world showcase. World showcase shouldn't have countries represented and then one pavilion that used to be a country which is now fiction. I'm ok with a small presence in Norway but frozen is taking over Norway and that's not how world showcase is intended. The three caballeros in Mexico is more of a subtle character influence which is ok.
