Great week at the fort

We just returned from our first trip to the fort and we just loved everything about it! I had been back in the 80s and tent camped. This time I got brave and towed my little camper 12 hours down 95 and it was way easier than I thought it would be! Traffic was horrible coming home...trip took hourssss longer than it should have due to all the construction zones, but that did not dampen my enthusiasm for the trip! We took along 4 teenagers and they loved the campground, too. Favorites for them--movies under the stars and Hoop Dee Doo! They laughed so hard!! Thanks to all of you who post on this board. I felt very prepared and knew just what to expect. I was a little worried about the Florida critters who might show up, but the only thing we saw was a tiny black snake (maybe 4 inches long) on the sidewalk near the comfort station one night. We just watched it slither away...
Now I need to plan another trip! Haha!

Glad everyone had a fun time, jgdsoarin. The teens are free to have fun too just like the kids they are.

When I get home from a Fort trip, I'm always noodling in the back of my head about the next one.

Yeah, I can't leave without having another trip in the works! Just ordered my Not So Scary Halloween tickets tonight! I have 2 more trips this year...extended family trip this summer and a long weekend with my friends in October. Gotta start thinking about when I can get another Fort trip planned!
Ummm...we thought it was a worm at first, but definitely a snake! Luckily, it only made one appearance!

Glad you enjoyed your trip. I don't think I could ever talk my husband into pulling our camper that far.

I was surprised that I was able to do it! My camper is small...12 foot Aliner. To be honest, I barely knew it was back there. I kept my speed at 60 and even got 20 mpg. I don't know if I could pull something bigger as easily.

So glad you had such a great time! And my kids favorite is the hoop dee doo, we always have so much fun there!

This was our set up on site 1503. We easily fit our Aliner and a large tent on the site. We were right beside the comfort station (our request) and close to the road...although we never really noticed traffic.
This is the first time I've tried to upload a picture, so I hope it shows up. :)

Neat. I've stayed in 1500 a couple times and 1503 is a good site. I would be a little apprehensive about being up against the main road but if you say you never really noticed the traffic, then maybe my concern is unfounded.

I have an A-liner too that I got about this time last year. I took it to the Fort for the first time in January 2015. Here was my setup:

How long have you had yours? What can you tell me about it? (I'm still learning). I thought I was the only one here so now we have twice as many. Yea!

BTW, if you click the "full image" button when you upload pictures, they will appear big and not a thumbnail.

You have a much "fancier" Aliner than I have! I love the Expedition model! My Scout is much smaller, but so far works for us. The only thing I really don't like on mine is the location of the air conditioner. When on, it blows hot air to the area under the awning...not good in the heat of summer. Mine is a 2008 model and it's time to replace the weather stripping, but everything else works great. We used to have a small popup and this has so much more usable storage space. We've made a few small modifications, but nothing major. I keep eyeing the Rpods, but this trip showed me that towing an Aliner is a breeze. I'm not sure a full-height trailer would have been as easy. Of course, we campers are always dreaming about the next one...that Expedition looks mighty nice, too! We bought ours used and the previous owner made quite a few great modifications (added a small sink, put in a permanent bed, added an extra baggage door), so all we have done is add some shelving so we can have our microwave, toaster oven, and skillet all on the counter at the same time. Of course, I learned on this trip that when you travel with a bunch of teens, all they want is a permanent charging station! Haha!

Oh, one more thing...I have had issues with my door "dropping" during travel, the top piece will fall down and it's very hard to get back into location. I have read this can be a common thing, especially if driving over bumpy roads (hello 95 potholes!). So, I keep a wooden block on the counter beside where the door rests and the top portion lays against the board. It prevents the top from falling and has worked well. Cheap fix. Hopefully, the newer ones don't have this problem.

Thanks thanks for the photo tip...that was the first picture I had ever uploaded. I'm doing another to test it out. This was the view just across the street from our site. image.jpg

Wow! Great pic jgdsoarin. And I think you figured out the pic thing pretty well.

Glad you all had a great time! We were there at the same time in 1507 and I kept wanting to ask where you got those Mickey lights. They are sooooo cute!

You should have stopped by! Someone else did and asked about the lights. I got them at the Disney store online. They are technically "holiday lights." I guess every trip to Disney is a holiday!! I loved all the Mickey lamp posts...maybe I'll get crafty and try to make one!
