leaving stuff in strollers

Was there a few months ago and we use a really nice jogging stroller along with my Oakley kitchen sink backpack as a diaper bag. Well we went on pirates and typically I just lock the wheels of the stroller but it can still be moved but would deter anyone from stealing it. Usually we bring the bag with us but this time I left the bag behind. Just took the DSLR bag along with our phones and wallets. Well unfortunately the baby explodes in her diaper on the ride. We rush over to the stroller because it leaked through her diaper when we notice the bag has been removed from the stroller. We ask the guy there watching the strollers and he has no idea what's going on. Baby is crying because she is dirty, we now have no diapers and no change of clothes with us. Everything was in that bag, even the babies bottles. Someone from security comes after I made a scene and they make a report. We have to go all the way back to the main entrance where I explain what happened. They were upset and see how upset the baby was along with us. They give us some diapers along with formula and a change of clothes. One of the girls even helps out my wife while I am speaking with security outside. Security informed the people in the baby center to provide those items to us. Well everything gets straitened up and baby is asleep after eating something when I get a call from security that they found my bag. They meet me in lost and found where I describe the bag. The morons who stole it did not realize it was a $200 bag. They took the diapers along with the wipes, onesies and the powdered formula. The bastards even stole the pacifiers. I was relieved I got the bag back and they apologized again for what happened. So word of advice, just take the bag with you and don't go through what we went through.

Just so you know for the future, there are not CMs assigned to watch strollers. They are there to rearrange them and make sure they stay neat. They have no idea which stroller belongs to who, so someone stealing a bag just looks like someone grabbing a bag out of their own stroller.

I am aware of that. I was just venting because my daughter was covered in poop and someone thought it was funny to steal a baby bag. It was not fun walking halfway through the park with a screaming baby covered in poop. The stealing of the pacifiers pissed me off since you could not buy them in the store (Hawaii medical gumdrop). They are the only one the baby likes. Guess I will just have to lock the bag to the stroller next time.

Just take the bag with you. They can just as easily open the bag or cut the strap to steal it

It's always risky to leave your bags/anything on a stroller. Even so, I see a lot of strollers each month left in parking areas with bags and items still on them. As others have stated, leave items at your own risk.

Yikes. What an ordeal! I would have been so angry, too.

And for those who ask, I'm one of those "better safe than sorry" people, and tend to overpack. I don't always use the spare clothes, but I'm always glad I have them when I need them. I think we'll probably just stick to using the backpack and taking it with us on rides. When I take the kids to HK Disneyland, it's usually just me, but when we go to WDW, dh will be with us, so I'll make him carry the bag. Problem solved, lol.

What a terrible experience. So sorry you had to deal with that.

I have the bare essentials with us at all times. But carry extra and leave it in a bag in the stroller. It's replaceable if need be.

We took a Bumbleride Indie Twin stroller with a Vera Bradley backpack diaper bag and left them together a ton. We knew there was a risk of theft, but when it was 98 degrees in August, we decided to take the risk rather than carry two 20 month olds and a backpack. We also left an Olaf and Elsa/Anna doll in each seat. For us, it was a calculated risk and thankfully all was well.

We also left everything except our electronics in the diaper bag attached to our double stroller or in the under carriage, we left all our kids personalized mickey ears, minnie headband ears, customized light sabers and autograph books all in plain sight and we did not have any issues. I find it so sad people would steal other peoples things, what a way to ruin the day!

I will be leaving my bag in the undercarriage while on rides. To deter theft, I am using a TSA lock with one loop around the stroller and one loop around the bag handle. My husband and I have even thought of getting one of those small tsa locks for suitcase zippers to lock the zippers shut. I'm not leaving anything expensive or irreplaceable in my bag...but if I brought it...I expect to keep it! Now I just have to hope they don't take the whole stroller!!

I would leave a change of clothes in a ziplock bag under my stroller for my niece. The only other items that were there were our refillable water bottles. I once accidently forgot the backpack on the stroller, when I came back it was still there. Worried the whole time until I could see the stroller with the backpack. Never forgot it again.

I second the recommendation of a refillable Brita water bottle. It filters water anywhere; very convenient. Small children have such sensitive tummies. We always took two bags into the parks. One kept valuables like wallets and cameras. The other bag had diapers, change of clothes, snacks, etc. We just left the one bag in the stroller and never had any problems. We used two small bags, similar to a sling backpack type. You never know when Florida rain will shower on your stroller. Good luck.

It is always a risk when you leave things unattended. But we've always been fine as far as thefts go, thankfully. However, we went inside BOG for lunch when it was bright and sunny. Halfway through our meal we noticed everyone walking in wearing ponchos. When we got outside we saw everything in our stroller was SOAKED. I spent our afternoon break back at our resort running our clothing through a dryer and drying out everything else on lounge chairs.

So if you leave items in your stroller make sure they are in zip loc bags or under a rain cover!

I accidentally left a $2,000+ camera hanging from our stroller handle while riding Ellen's Energy Universe, which is about 45 minutes long. I realized it in the middle of the ride, and was literally freaking out for the remainder of the time. Imagine my relief when it was still there when we got back!

I leave a hideous looking diaper bag hanging from our stroller at all times. It contains bottled water, disposable ponchos, an umbrella or two, glow sticks, wet wipes, change of clothes for DD, extra socks for all of us, inexpensive jackets, sunscreen, a ziploc bag with bandaids, tylenol, etc. If it gets stolen, I wouldn't be overly upset about it. It's not worth dragging it on and off rides. I do refrain from leaving my expensive North Face jacket in it though, since that's just asking for trouble.

I only leave things I can't live without. My friends had their stroller stolen. On the same trip, we had a cinderella crown stolen, and we were only a few feet from the stroller when it happen.

Another thing to be aware of when leaving things in strollers is wildlife. At Universal I've seen squirrels digging through bags, pawing through bags of popcorn, chewing on sippy cup tops and straws. I didn't notice it at WDW but it might happen there too. I always wondered if people came back to their strollers and continued eating that popcorn. Ick.

Anything I leave in the stroller is not of worth. It's pretty much DD's second set of clothing and pull-up, sunscreen and maybe some snacks. I always take my wallet and phone with me. I'm slightly paranoid about stuff like that.

Our rule of thumb was always this - If it was going to have a major impact on our day if it was stolen - it didn't get left in the stroller. So, we would leave a small cooler with a few water bottles in it. If it wasn't there one time - We would just ante up the $12 extra dollars to buy water bottles in the park that day. Also would put a change of clothes (INEXPESNSIVE GARAGE SALE CLOTHES) and a few extra diapers and wipes in a plastic shopping bag in the stroller. Again, if stolen we could always hike back to the room or buy a t-shirt in the store. That said, we never had anything stolen but would certainly plan for that possibility.

Ive never had a problem, but like others, only leave stuff that i don't mind replacing. I don't pack heavy either or take big cameras, etc. If I still had a kid in diapers, I might take 1 or 2 with me in my light backpack, and store the rest in the stroller. And I wouldn't leave it in anything that resembled a nice diaperbag. Keep it in a clear ziploc where peeps can see that they're not getting much.
