Looking for recent experiences with resale VGC deeds

I posted on the Purchase forum, but thought I'd ask here in case someone has more info.

We just closed on a resale VGC contract today. It was sent today to be recorded. I know that it is done differently in CA than in Florida.

Does anyone have recent experience with how long it takes for VGC deeds to be recorded and then in the DVC system?

We are trying to make reservations for mid-November before the 7-month window opens up in ~ 2 weeks. Anything I can do to try to get the info quicker would be amazing.

Someone suggested I try this link, but I'm not sure how it works. Do I just search under my name? There are categories--am I look under deeds?

Thanks for any help!

Apart from a few different kinds of disclosures/forms that need to be signed, the process is pretty similar to the FL contract buying process. I didn't see much of a difference at all between my BLT and VGC contract purchases.

Wonderful, thank you! I have been told that VGC generally take 7 to 10 days longer than the Orlando properties to be recorded because the deeds in Orlando are done electronically and manually in CA.

It may have, but if it did, I hardly noticed. In any event, DVC should have your info shortly after closing, so you can call them and ask them to activate your online account so you can start making your reservations. You don't need to wait to receive something in the mail.

Thank you!:-) Trying to get in by the skin of our teeth before the 7 month window opens, so every day counts. :thumbsup2

It took a long time for my deed to be recorded. I signed the contract in early December, didn't get closing docs until Jan 21, and I sent the money the 22nd. Took until 12 Feb for the final closing. So in all, 2.5 weeks from sending the money to having the deed recorded and another two weeks before I could make a reservation. I actually ended up renting points for the November weekend I wanted so I could be sure to get the reservation I wanted. I've rented a hundred points for the same weekend to a friend and will rent a few more out and break even.

Good luck!

Thanks . . . ug, wish it didn't take that long, but it will happen eventually. I booked a room at GCH in case we don't get VGC room. I'm not brave enough to rent points because of several health situations in my family that could change the trip, but I can cancel the hotel reservation if I need to. When you rent points, you can't change the reservation, right? Thanks for the help!

I think you'd need to talk with whoever you rent from, and it would depend on what kind of notice you gave. Far enough out and they might be willing to let you cancel, but if it's within the 7 month window and they risk losing their points, then it wouldn't be fair to expect them to cancel. If you're concerned about a health-related cancellation that might happen on short notice, I'd go with the regular hotel room, but remember that Disney requires more than 24 hours for a full refund. (I got around that one by changing the dates of the vacation and then canceling it.)

Thank you--yes, I'm concerned inside the 7 month window so I wouldn't want to put anyone in that position. I think the Disney hotels have a 5-day cancellation policy now, and hopefully I would know something way ahead of that. We have a daughter that might need surgery, my mother isn't in great health, etc. etc. so I hate to commit to something I can't get out of that far in advance. At least if they are our own points, we can make that decision.

Looks like I'm in the same boat as you. Our deed was recorded on 3/23. Title company sent documents to County on 3/20. Now just waiting for our membership number to book our November vacation.

wow, that was faster than I thought it would be! How did you find out it was recorded? Did you look on the website? I'm still trying to figure out how to do that. Thank you!

I was just informed by our title company that now California does record the deed electronically so our contract has already been recorded and is in the hands of the DVC. she says 2 to 3 weeks until we can get our information and book. Sassymouse, please keep me posted! So glad to find someone just ahead of us! Congratulations to you on becoming new vgc owners!:cheer2:

You might get in a little faster once you get your member number - that happened for me well before getting a book. As soon as I got my membership number, I called and the MS people (through the phone option for IT/website issues, not membership info) gave me everything I needed to get online. It was something like two weeks between getting my membership number in the mail and the letter with the info I needed to log in, so calling saved me a lot of time.

Congrats - I'll be there Avengers weekend for our first official VGC stay.
