Will the studios or the regular rooms at the AKL, AKVs ever be able to sleep 5? I mean it has happened at CBR so I thought I would ask if anyone had an opinion on the question.

It would be awesome *sigh*. This is my dream resort. Not going to happen at the price point for a family of 5. Or I could just leave DH at home ;)

We stayed at AKL 2x in a standard room with 5, 2 queen beds and the couch-bunk is like a twin bed. Same setup as the contemporary, BC and Poly. Unless something changed lately. We stayed in the main building not the villas.

image.jpg image.jpg Correction we stayed there with a savannah view the first year Akl opened. And not 2 queens but 1 king 2 bunks and a day bed.

So maybe they did not call this a standard room but it was not 2 rooms. The second time we stayed with a pool view but we must not have taken Pics of that room. I think we stayed in 2002 on the first trip so maybe they just do not have the rooms setup like this anymore.

You cannot just suddenly increase a room occupancy, without a full review with the local Fire Marshal's office allowing to do so. It is not the size of the room or the demand. It is the ability for people to exit properly through the existing structure.

While POR and CBR were able to do so, because their exits are on the exterior and modifications can be made to do so, with an existing interior structure, you cannot suddenly increase the width of the interior corridors for the ability of proper exiting when add "X" number amount of people to each floor. You also have to realize that all of the people above the floors you are located must use the same exiting stairs.

It is virturally impossible to do without major renovations.

We have 5 people and always have a tough time fitting into rooms so we usually have to pick deluxe rooms. In 2002 we stayed in the AKL and again a few years later with 5 people. The pics above are of that room it had bunk beds and king or maybe a queen and a day bed. We did not stay in a club level room. Maybe they do not do that any more but they did at that time. Here is a link to another site listing the same setup. It is hard to find afordable rooms for 5 but we just stayed in the new CBR rooms and that worked for our family of 5. If you can try and view this link from a site I found read the heading it says the room number and the layout bunk bed, queen bed and day bed.

That just looks like a couch?

Anyway, I've never known of a time where they DECREASE the occupancy, but standards hold 4 at this point in time and I don't expect them to since there are rooms for 5 available.

Ya you just pull off the back pillows it is kind of a twin and my teenage son always picked that it was similar to the one in the contemporary, poly and BC. It was a long time ago and in the current pictures it looks like there is a small table and chairs in that spot now but maybe they just had a few of these rooms so maybe the front desk may have some more information.

That stinks and is why as a family of 5 we always had a tough time getting single rooms. We just stayed at CBR instead of the BC that we have stayed at the last few years and we were pleasantly surprised how nice that resort was. We were able to stay there 10 days instead of the normal 7 days we usually stay at the BC and the Cost was even less. Might be worth a try but the Murphy bed is really not for an adult.

I remember those rooms. We stayed back in 2003-2004. They had their own category and I want to say they were called Deluxe. Deluxe Pool View and Deluxe Savanna view and on upper floors. I think it was before there was DVC there, then everything changed.

Raising hand also wishing they could sleep 5 at a more reasonable price point.

I don't want to wish time away but I can see a time in the future where we will be down to 4, then 3 in a room so AKL and WL will both be viable options for us. Granted it is when the older kids head to college, but still.
