Drinks Around the World...are we insane???

My friends and I did this a few years ago on my birthday trip. Two did Drinks Around the World; me and another friend did Food Around the World. Both are totally doable. We planned where we wanted to be for the "big meals" of the day: breakfast (France) and lunch (China). Then we kept wandering back and forth between rides and the countries for snacks. The drinking started after 12 noon and drinkswise we went in one direction around the circle, so my two friends who were drinking kept track of where they had drank every time we wandered back to the countries from the rides. It was April and got a little hot in the afternoon, so that helped with the drinking too. They double-fisted from France to Italy (speaking of sharing... not only did they not share, but they insisted on each having 2 drinks at the same time) because the choices were overwhelming and they couldn't decide. We stopped eating around 9 p.m. and they were done with drinking at 10 p.m. (we were at the park at opening). My friend who ate with me had a massive food belly (she couldn't sleep later that night because she had too much food in her), and the two drinkers were uh... pretty wasted on the bus ride home. We rolled them to bed as soon as we got to the hotel.

We started drinks around the world at noon and were done by about 7-7:30, though I wasn't really keeping track of the time since it was still light out so I knew IllumiNations wouldn't be starting anytime soon. We had time to ride Spaceship Earth and get nachos in Mexico, where we watched IllumiNations before hopping on the monorail and just doing the loop around Seven Seas Lagoon. We saw Wishes from the monorail, though, which was such a sweet way to end the day!

I've never attempted this mostly because I've only gone to Disney once since I turned 21 and my boyfriend doesn't drink. I decided to avoid the judgment from him lol. I'm going again this year and once again I probably will not be able to do more than have a few drinks. If I were to ever do it with a friend who drinks I would probably cheat a bit. While I'm not a light weight by any means I am still a relatively small girl and don't want to run the risk of getting trashed and making a fool out of myself and kicked out or banned from the parks. You also have to keep in mind you aren't just having a lot of drinks you are going to be walking around under Florida's scorching hot rays so you have to stay extra hydrated.

I've been living vicariously though people's Drinking Around the World reviews and some tips I found were to:

-Drink a lot of water (At least cup every other pavilion)
-Have a big Breakfast and snack a lot
-Cheat a little (Perhaps skip the African Outpost since it isn't an official Pavilion, or share drinks with friends)
-Take breaks
-Start at the Tequilla Bar in Mexico rather than end with it.

The biggest tip is have fun but don't get too crazy. You don't want get too wild and possibly thrown out of the park! Let us know how it goes! :drinking1

Is there African beer or wine at the African Outpost?

I remember my friend getting a beer there, but I thought it was something generic like Sam Adams.

Eh, what's is to me? Well, to start, food and souvenirs don't get guests drunk. I'd prefer to enjoy Hollywood Studios without 5 drunken women screaming 120 decibels into my ear during A Frozen Sing-A-Long. I'd also prefer to enjoy Epcot without having to dodge drunken guests, stumbling around World Showcase, who feel that the only way to enjoy a theme park is to drink alcohol while there (or sometimes even before they arrive). Wow, dude...you drank 11 drinks in the course of X hours. You deserve an award and a few pats on the back!!!! Atta-boy!!!! I'm super-duper impressed by all of those check marks on that custom T-shirt you were wearing.

I don't have a problem with drinking--I enjoy a Stella Artois, a hard cider or a nice glass of Gevrey-Chambertin every once in a while. Do I absolutely, positively have to have alcohol while at Disney? No.

Alcohol + sense of entitlement having spent thousands on a DW trip = behavior that disrupts other guests' enjoyment of the parks

You sound absolutely fun to be with at WDW. Sheesh. Ive never ran into anyone like you describe. Maybe ive just been super lucky. It seems most people at Disney are happy drunks.

On topic: last trip we did Drinking Round The World. Pro tip, the chinese cart are very generous with the alcohol unlike the other premixed drinks that make most mixed drinks at Epcot. Dangit my phone wont let me click back to edit my grammar error.

Anyone know where I can order one of those drinking around the world shirts? If i see someone with one I bet they are pretty fun and friendly

Considering I'm an annual passholder, I see drunken behavior more than you do, especially considering that I'm sober when I observe it. Thanks for that "pro" tip about the China pavilion. Do you consider yourself a pro drinker? Try customink.com if you feel compelled to create a shirt letting other Epcot guests know you're hellbent on consuming 11 drinks.

Even during the 2015 Flower & Garden Festival the booze kiosks are out, blurring the lines between that event and Food & Wine. I even saw, this past Saturday, moonshine for sale in the Port of Entry store at Showcase Plaza. Honestly...moonshine? Way to go, Epcot...pretty classy.

Ive only been drunk once at Epcot. All other times sober or a bit buzzed. But thanks for making that point.

Try taking a shot next time to loosen you up. Or maybe a wine flight if you prefer that. Youll have fun.

I do feel compelled, but Im sure I can find one online premade if I do some Google searching. I do have a Food and Wine Festival "Beers Around The World" Tshirt that Disney sells.

I will agree that the fake moonshine is a bit absurd. Real moonshine tastes like rubbing alcohol. Fake stuff is only a tad less gross imo.

See you in September my friend. Ill guide you in drinking around the world if you like. Otherwise easywdw.com has a good guide.

I agree. I also don't want to witness any puking incidents due to anyone's excessive drinking. It's Disney World, not a frat party.

I mean, I don't want to witness people puking due to being full and riding Tower of Terror or Space Mountain directly after - or from people who just puke from motion sickness, but I realize it may happen and I'm not going to dictate what they should or shouldn't do on their own vacation.

Someone has the choice not to drink so much just as much as someone has a choice not to ride something he/she shouldn't that result in the same outcome. Some people might not know their limits for drinking/motion sickness and find out after the fact.

You have the power to ignore things that bother you and move on.

I wasn't planning to approach anyone and tell them to stop drinking so obviously I'm going to ignore it and move on. But since we're having a discussion, I'm just saying that I agree with Epcotfan64's sentiments. Luckily, I've been to the Food and Wine festival three years in a row and haven't noticed any drunken incidents, and I hope it stays that way.

I've been going to Food&Wine for years and maintain that rowdy drunken behavior is still pretty rare at Epcot. Do folks drink too much sometimes? Sure, and even when they are completely blasted most times I've seen friends or family take care of them and get them out of the parks. Sure I also see groups of adults who have had plenty to drink and are having fun, but rarely are things rowdy. I wouldn't confuse very crowded parks with some buzzed individuals as rowdy. I think 99%+ of the adults drinking in Epcot still understand that it's a family environment and not Las Vegas. A few years back I accidentally and unintentionally got 'Black Out' drunk (long story), and even then I had security and family get me safely back to my resort without any scenes or issues.

Is there going to be the occasional drunk idiots or scenes in the park? Sure, but for the most part people should really see how crazy things can get at places like Vegas when comparing how reserved things are at Epcot, even during F&W.

Even the Gaslamp in San Diego or Whiskey Row in Arizona. 10x worse than I've ever seen at WDW. There is no comparison.

I had to jump back in this post...

I found it very very hard to believe that you are seeing people be as drunk as you say without Disney jumping in. I am an AP as well and frequent the parks almost every weekend. Sometimes we drink, sometimes we dont. The many sober experiences I have had have been just as fun and never do I feel the need to grab an alcoholic beverage the moment I walk in a park. However, DATW is a very fun experience and adding say a t-shirt, passport, etc to the mix can make it even more of a personalized memory. Getting back to my point, ANY time I have seen anyone who is obviously drunk, Disney has always stepped in. They are watching and ready to step in as needed. I have seen people be asked to turn their tshirts inside out due to profanity, I have watched bartenders call security to walk someone to the front of the park, and many other examples.

While I agree that it is unnecessary for people to be so drunk to the point that they are stumbling, if you dont want to see this type of behavior, maybe not attend something called food and wine festival.

To the OP, glad you had a great time!!! Eating around the world in my opinion is actually harder because my eyes are way bigger than my stomach!

Do you enjoy getting your panties into a bunch? You should accept that your attitude isn't going to change what people want to do. If you dislike drinking so much then why do you constantly berate this thread? Why not just skip over it entirely.

1. Well, I much prefer getting my knickers in a twist...panties in a bunch? Not so much.
2. Who said my attitude was going to change people's behaviors?
3. Who said I dislike drinking so much? I already posted that I enjoy from time to time a Stella Artois, hard cider, or a glass of Gevrey-Chambrtin. Oh, I forgot the delicious Kir Royale for a special occasion.
4. Why not skip over my posts entirely? You already know that your posts aren't going to change my behavior, right?

Taking dd for her 21st bday in June - while I don't think we'll accomplish all in one trip (I have 2 epcot days planned) I'm hoping to get it done in 2. What about the monorail crawl? Has anyone done that? Which bars? Did you do each bar or just each resort???

Drinking around the world is fun when you go to epcot. There aren't any rides in the world showcase right now other than Mexico, so since all you're doing is walking around between the pavilions the different food and drinks is a perfect complement I think.

I'm an AP holder too- DVC as well- have had an AP since 2009. I'm not sure to what behavior you're referring, but I have very rarely seen people throwing up drunk (I'm not sure if I've ever noticed it actually...) Personally I enjoy chatting with people drinking around the world- they're usually very nice and fun to talk to IMO.

I did it back in Feb 2014. So much fun. It was during the US silver(?) medal hockey game and the boyfriend was not about to miss that. So we had lunch at ESPN and that's where I left him. They had a little gift shop near the International Gateway and there I picked up my passport (how can you travel around the world without it?!). I started back in Mexico and asked each CM that served me my beverage to sign it, many offered to write my order or something cute in it. Highlights: in Norway the CM recorded that I took the shot of (some potato derived alcohol) "like a true viking!" and the fella at the Rose and Crown signed his "cheers!" Side note: least favorable experience of the day was when I asked the CMs in Germany and they sort of just rolled their eyes and wrote "deustchland"... The grapefruit beer was delicious so I was (and am) torn on that whole encounter. I also mixed it up and tried to do the Phinneas and Ferb Agent-y thing at the same time. I did not save the world. womp womp.
Word to the wise: hydrate, eat salty snacks (to counteract the diuretic effect of the alcohol) and take your time!
