we originally booked our trip for July 17-24 at art of animation but after checking flight prices it is much cheaper to fly the 16th. We would be flying in late so we don't want waste money on the dining plan so we will be purchasing room only for the night of the 16th at all star sports. How would magical express work since we are arrive under one reservation and departing on another reservation? Thanks

No problem just be sure Magic Express has your flight info and reservation #. Since you have a late arrival, don't put DME tags on luggage and go pick them up at carousel. You can take them on DME bus to resort.

Is there a certain time ME doesnt get your luggage after? We land at 8:00pm
Yes, but I'm not sure if it's 10:00? Hopefully someone will come along who knows for sure. I'd still want my luggage with me, even landing at 8:00, especially switching resorts in the morning.

We did this last year, flew in from the UK & spent 10 nights at OKW then moved to the Yacht Club for 4 nights.
We had organised the ME through Disney UK (Which is actually Disney in the States), no problems when we arrived but we had to get the YC front desk to sort out the ME for our return journey to the airport as that booking had gone AWOL & we did not get the confirmation note on our door.
My advice would be, if in doubt about your return journey check with the front desk.

I wouldn't use the yellow tags, and I'd collect the luggage myself. Just recently, we were scheduled to land at 8 and had tagged our luggage and checked it, only to be delayed 3+ hours at the gate. We landed after 11, and MDE DID collect our luggage (since it was tagged--it didn't even show up at baggage claim like we thought it would since we landed after 10) and it didn't show up in our room until the next day until 1 in the afternoon. We do split stays all of the time, and we often take the cheapest room we can for our arrival night if we're going to be arriving late, and I was REALLY REALLY REALLY glad that this was the one time that I decided to stay put for the first two nights of our vacation because our luggage situation would have been a mess if we had checked out of the room and the luggage was delivered afterwards.

Don't tag it--just collect it. It will delay your arrival to the hotel by about 30 minutes if you collect it yourself, but I think it'll save you some valuable vacation time and a potentially huge mess just in case your flight is delayed.

It has been years since we picked up our own luggage. That said, flying in on Delta, do we pick up luggage up anywhere near the ME bus check in?

Another thought would be since you're not likely to hit the parks on your arrival night is stay at or near the airport and set up your ME for morning and skip the All Star night entirely.

Unless something has changed very recently, Delta will be in the B Terminal which is the same Terminal the ME check in is. Baggage claim is on level 2, ME is on level 1. So after you grab your luggage, you'll have to go down one level.

DME luggage service stops at 10:00pm and resumes around 5am. Here's why many suggest not tagging your bags if you arrive after 6ish. You will arrive at your resort about 70 mins (give or take) after you leave the gate area...not from the time you land!!! If you were to land at, say, 6:30, you could expect to be at your resort by 7:45ish. Your bags can be expected in your room 3+ hrs after resort checkin...so that would be any time after 10:30 or so. If you land at 8, that means you won't get to your resort until around 9:15-9:30. Bags might not get to you until after midnight. If you're at a value, that could be an issue since their luggage assistance CMs tend to not work at that time.....almost a skeleton crew if anything. You could tag the bags and then ask that they be held until the next morning. Then, go to Luggage Assistance and have them moved to the next resort.

Any bags that arrive at MCO after 10pm won't be touched by DME CMs. They will, most likely, go to the baggage claim area, go around and around on the carousel and then be taken off and put aside for pickup the next morning.

If it were me, I would not tag the bags. I would go to baggage claim and get them and then take them to the DME bus with me. Be aware that the driver will expect a gratuity for handling the bags.
