We are from the east coast and will be in Phoenix for a few a days this summer; and decided to extend the trip and head to DL.

It looks like the trip is 5.5 to 6 hrs. Is there a recommended route? How is th drive? if we leave around 7am; is it feasible to be checked in by 1-2 pm?

Just take the I-10 freeway. If you don't hit morning rush hour in Phoenix 6 hrs is feasible. It's a pretty desolate drive through the desert. When our kids were little we set the van cruise control and it automatically drove us to Disneyland. Any more, we just fly. I'm sure the freeways have been redone since then, but I believe you turn off at riverside.

I've made the trip numerous times. I usually take I-10 to 60 thru Moreno Valley to 91 to 57 south. Exit Ball Rd or Katella depending on where you wish to go. Main parking garage would be at Ball & Disneyland Dr. I prefer parking at the Toy Story lot on Harbor just south of Katella. Garage has trams to Downtown Disney which is short walk to gate. Toy Story lot has buses to front gate.

It is 360 miles depending on where in Phoenix you are. We usually stop in Quartzite or Ehrenburg for gas, bathroom etc. 6 hours is very possible if traffic cooperates.

Very do-able from Phoenix area. Just be warned there is a big area between Blythe and Indio with very few restrooms, so plan ahead! Sometimes some of the rest areas are closed too.:headache: The gas station at Chiriaco Summit is roughly halfway between. We call that stretch between Blythe and Indio "a whole lotta nothing."

We are experts at speding our summers in WDW, so i figure it can't be much worse than 100 degress with 100% humidity :-)

I don't know, 115 is pretty dang miserable :crazy2:

While the 115 is pretty miserable, it the fact that at 10 at night it is still over 100 degrees that I find miserable!

As others have said the drive is easy. If you are staying in Phoenix west of the stack (I-17 and I-10) then leaving at 7 am won't be a big deal. But leaving at that time where you will have to go through that area will be heavier traffic. We do the drive all the time from the north valley (north of scottsdale) and it takes me and my mom about 6 hours depending on how many stops. My dad can do it in 5.5 easily but he drives ridiculously fast and doesn't support many stops. Quartzsite is my favorite place to stop and usually has the cheapest gas and the cleaner bathrooms. Between Blythe and Indio is no mans land. Take the 60 if you are comfortable with high speeds in curves with trucks. But the time of day taking the 10 all the way to the 91 should not make much difference. The 91 can get really busy and slow going. You will be hitting it just as traffic normally starts but there is never really a time when it is empty. Around the 55 is bad because it is a left exit, so stay in the right lanes. If you don't like traffic you can always get off after the 55 head south to Ball/Taft or Katella and head the rest of the way on streets. I prefer Taft/Ball (the name changes at some point) because the lights are better and less traffic.

I agree. If you're leaving from Apache Junction part of the greater Phoenix area, then add on an extra hour to the drive. But 6 hours is probably about right. It'll be hot. Really hot on your drive. It's like driving through the 7th circle of hell. Bring some extra water bottles in your car just in case. I-10 around Palm Springs is super duper windy.

One thing to keep in mind is that it is hot through most of the drive zone. We usually leave gilbert (which is on the east side of Phoenix ) by 5:30 or 6:00 am to beat the heat through the stretch. We stop at Mickey do to get hubby a sausage mc muffin and me an oatmeal, fill up the car at fry,s and hit the road. Leaving that early beats rush hour traffic here. Then we stop in quartzite to gas up and stretch. We bring sandwiches and snacks with us to keep breaks short. Our route is the 10 to 91 and the 22??? Or27??? We exit katella as we stay on that road. It takes us about 5.5 hours, 6 if our stop is longer. Then we get to disney before la rush hour starts as well.
