Fast Food Blvd - We ate here twice. DH and DS got Krusty Burger. DS doesn't eat much, so he didn't finish his burger and fries. It was a little expensive. I wish they had a smaller/cheaper kid's version. DH got the rib sandwich and liked it. I got the tuna salad from Lisa's Teahouse. The lettuce was just romaine; I wish it had been spinach. However, the tuna, feta, and olives were really tasty. There's was a good portion of tuna. It was basically canned tuna, but it was the nicer canned stuff and marinated. I also got a Flaming Moe. It was good but kind of pricy. I don't know if I would get one again. It needed some booze. Another visit, I got the hummus and veggies from Lisa's. It was fine, but nothing exceptional. DS got a burger again. DH got a taco from the Bumble Bee Man truck. It looked and smelled good. DH liked it a lot. We also got a donut sundae from Lard Lad and split it amongst the 3 of us. It wasn't nearly as gross or heavy as I thought it would be. I definitely want to get it again on the next trip. It's made with the normal size pink donut, instead of the giant one, which I think helps.

Margaritaville in Citywalk - I booked this a couple of weeks before the trip. The restaurant is big, so it was hard to find where we should check in. It seemed like a lot of people were trying to get in, but the wait was long. The restaurant didn't look that crowded. I was worried that DS would get bored, but they had people walking around on stilts making balloon shapes for people. We tried to tip one, but she said that she was not allowed to do so. The atmosphere, music, food, and drinks were great. We had eaten at one previously in Las Vegas. I got the coconut shrimp and, since it was PI day, key lime pie too. We left fat, happy, and placated. OK, maybe a bit tipsy too.

Mythos - We had lunch here. We liked it. It was better than your typical fern bar. I would eat there again. The decor is awesome too. DH ordered an alcoholic beverage. As we were paying, the server brought him a box with a new glass in it, that was the same as what his drink came in. Oh joy, we now have more stuff to carry and try to get home:rolleyes: DH got a pork dish, and I got the crab cake sliders. The crab cakes were flavorful, not greasy, and not too heavy. The service was really good.

Three Broomsticks - We got off the train and headed straight to 3 Broomsticks at 11:05am. We hadn't eaten at any of the HP QS places. There really wasn't much of a line. I was very surprised from everything that I heard. DH and I split the Cornish pasties, salad, and a baker (baked potato). The pasties are awesome. They remind me of an empanada restaurant that we used to have in Austin. The chef/owner, Ash, was from the UK. Her empanadas were very much influenced by savory hand pies from all cultures. These were as tasty and flavorful as hers. It came with 3 mini ones, which was perfect. DS got the chicken nuggets. It came with pretty good steak fries. He doesn't like steak fries, so unfortunately, DH and I had to eat them:) We also got another frozen butterbeer. This time in a souvenir mug.

Conclusion -
Pros: There are some pretty good table service places, especially in Citywalk, and they are close to everything. There are a few good counter service places in the parks. Restaurants and QS were not as crazy busy as they are at Disney. I probably didn't need reservations for some of them. Some interesting varieties too. Did I mention the free, cold, filtered water from the Coke Freestyle machines:teeth:

Cons: Pricey, about the same as Disney though. Some places didn't have kids menus, so we had to pay adult prices for DS to not eat most of his meal. We would share with him, but he likes his food so bland. They need a better selection of TS and QS, especially QS. There just aren't very many. Fast Food Blvd is good, but besides the HP stuff, it's probably one of the few decent ones. Flaming Moes need alcohol.

i love your report !!

i am thinking of the places and foods you all had and remember my thoughts are similar to yours on some of them.

so far i always get the waffle chicken sandwich when at Moes.
i want to try the other things but gotta have one of those waffle sandwiches at least twice during my trips there.

yea, not having a kids menu for some of the places is not a good thing.

oh, i come out fat when i leave the darkside to return home.
you are among friends on that one.
(margaritaville that is)

I kept trying to convince DH or DS to get the chicken & waffles, because I wanted to try it without having to eat the whole thing.

it's a large sandwich for me.
i'm stuffed before i am even done with it.

i go solo so i have no one i can give the food to so they can finish it.

hey, i would cut it in half and give that part away to a stranger if they would eat it.
i hate throwing away food.
but carrying around a half sandwich that has a syrup mixture on it isn't pretty.

Looks like we have similar taste! You mentioned the four places we plan to eat when we are there. I can't wait to try a Krusty Burger, a taco from Bumble Bee Man, and a Lard Lad donut. Those, along with a chicken and waffle sandwich.

Also plan to do Mythos, Margaritaville, and Three Broomsticks. I am glad that these are all pretty good.

Flaming Moes need alcohol.

I am probably in the minority, but as someone who doesn't drink, I adore the fact that Universal has so many fun drinks that are non-alcoholic. I am so happy that I can go to Moe's, and enjoy a specialty signature beverage without it having booze in it :) .

I can understand that. If it had alcohol, then DS could not have had any. The choice would have been nice though. Plus, they charge like it had alcohol.

the only time i have ever made a reservation for margaritaville was for a saturday night.
if you don't have one for saturday night, you go to the side walk up counter to be placed on a wait list.
they waits i have seen have been up to an hour late on saturday nights.

i still have a bit of a wait if i go at 8 on a reservation but i do get the next available seating for my party.

i usually make my reservation 2 weeks out if it is for a saturday night.
all other times, i do walk in with little waits.

it is a
possibility to do a reservation the morning of for a saturday evening if it isn't during a hard ticket event time period.

when parks close at 5 at the studios or 7 at ioa, many walking out decide to stop in at M'ville for a couple of drinks or food.
sit around there for an hour and avoid the parking lot rush for those leaving at park closing times.

We were there on a Saturday night during the Spring Break time, so maybe that's why it was busy. However, when we went inside, there were empty tables. Maybe it was busier than they had planned for. The outside patio was really crowded. I think I only made the reservation 2-3 weeks out. However, I am a bit anal and a planner. With a kid, I don't like to wait to be seated.

spring break is always busy.
throw out the usually procedures to follow, for that time event each year....

christmas week is another time period that breaks the patterns each year.

if you don't ever want to wait to be seated, make ressies as far out as allowed so you are covered.

there is no penalty if you break them or are a no show.
