I am planning on doing this with my DD's in Epcot and just bought 2 pearl cages fro Etsy. Just in case anyone else is thinking of doing the same - the pearl settings/cages are quite expensive over there so I bought online: one Cinderella carriage and one Minnie Head for $25 delivered.

They come on 18" chains. I will post pics when they arrive. I ordered them from a designer on Etsy.

Hi joolz1910, when you were looking did you see anything that would hold the pearl and fit onto a Pandora bangle ?

cal :)

Can I ask a stupid question? I was wondering this when I was in Epcot in the shop. So the ? Oysters are in the tank with the pearl inside them, and basically you pick one and it is ? killed in front of you they open them up and take the pearl out? Just curious about what actually happens.

do the people in the shop mind if you bring your own setting?
Do they charge you extra to set it in your own setting?

I didn't see one but I'm sure they would do one.

Wow, thanks for that. You have just sucked all the fun out of it.

I don't think they will set it for you, I imagine you will just do that yourself. Not sure though.

You pay in advance and are given a ticket. You wait your turn. They do a little ceremony. You repeat a few Japanese words after them, gong is banged. They open shell and clean it and measure it, plus tell you what colour, if it is rare. They put the pearl in a tiny plastic bag. If you want you can choose and pay for a setting and gift box. Dd has done it twice and enjoyed it and we paid for setting both times. You collect maybe an hour later if you have it set. She had s necklace and bracelet.

Etsy seems to do most things. I think there was a thread showing the jewellery/settings available at WDW on the Dis.

I think this sounds great for your girls Joolz :cloud9:. I am sure that it would appeal to my girls too but my MIL bought them one from Spain (I think - maybe Tenerife?) last year which they brought back in the shell and she got them both a little necklace and cage too. So, thank god, I can safely keep it away from our 'to do' list :rolleyes1. It still seems to be growing by the day though :scared:!

The cages came and they are gorgeous! Well worth the money :) The Etsy designer is AOSdesigns. Not the clearest picture.pearl.jpg

Those are gorgeous!! I love the carriage. I am going to have to check that out. Question, do you just place the pearl in the cage or is there a post the pearl must be put on?

Another question. Does anyone remember how much it costs for just the pearl without getting their setting?

I think the pick-a-pearl experience is around $17 for just the pearl. You open the cage and pop the pearl inside. There is no setting as such.

That is not bad at all. I am so wanting to do this now. I'm going to look on Etsy for that carriage designer. Thanks for posting about this! :flower:
