What Disney Tip Are you really glad you listened to?

We are new Disney travelers and some things we plan to do are,
we bought 7 dwarfs and a Mickey Mouse toy and these will travel with us to Disney and we will set them up in our hotel - A new tradition if you will.

We also travel with indoor/outdoor lights - we will decorate our room or our patio to add a little bling to the trip.

Bandaid friction block stick to rub on feet before putting on shoes to help avoid blisters; Anti-chafing gel for legs; Maxfreeze or biofreeze for tired legs/feet at night; epsom salt for aches and pains; true lemon packets to throw in purse to add to tap water to make it taste palatable.

Can someone share a link for the Cindy's Royal Table tip.... I keep looking but am not finding it. Thanks.

i was wondering the same thing. the only reference i could find was post # 35 a reference to the exact time to call for an adr? not sure if that is what they are talking about?

I read somewhere to prepare your body to walk a lot! I thought I'd take it one step farther and prepare my 5 year old DD as well! We did stair excercises for 40 days leading up to the trip just to prep the leg muscles and we went open to close for a week, no problem! We also broke in our new shoes by wearing them in the house for a month! (We live in MN so sandals don't get broken in outside in Feb!)

if you can get the early breakfast adr for CRT or CP, get to the park early and you can take amazing pictures of the castle all by yourself or your family. Photopass photographers are already in place early in the am before park opens to general public. will only work on days without EMH... If you have MM, buy it before getting there, it is 50$ cheaper but get it at least 3 days before to get all your pics in. then get it linked to everybody's MB so that when you tour separately your pics will still be linked to same account. and if you are travelling with a big group you only need 1 MM. and something different than photopass before is you can actually download pics as often as you can and to different devices until the expiration day. watch out for free extension codes with the memory maker, this can give you 15 extra days to work on your pictures. And most helpful tip for me was check your pictures the next day or two for any missing shots. That way they are still fresh in your memory and you can provide specific info with regards to where, when and what your party looked like to help MM team locate missing pictures. I have used Photopass and now memory maker for 5 times now. and have come to a point that I do not even bring my Nikon dslr with me to Disney. My shoulder and my husband shoulder have truly enjoyed our vacations now. :)

I haven't read through the whole thread either, so this is probably a repeat, but hands down BEST advice I got was to take mid-day breaks! Friends who were Disney vets had told me, and a disney blogger talked about it to avoid meltdowns (grown-up AND kid ones). Having 'permission' to not see & do everything made our trip so relaxing & wonderful.

Kind of tying into that too, is to remember you will not possibly be able to see & do everything. Let go of 'We're spending X$$$ on this trip & we're going to make it worth every cent!", and just enjoy the moments as they come.

We SORT of did this our first trip. Our kids were 12, 9 & 7--DS7 woke between 6-7AM daily no matter WHAT time he went to bed (this happened everywhere...not so much now that he is a teen!) Because of this we committed to being at all morning EMHs, being at park opening every day and NOT doing fireworks/Illuminations/Fantasmic. No one had a problem missing these things (and none of us were looking forward to closing crowds doing those)

So we hit rides hard in the AM, grabbed a QS lunch, then always planned on inside shows in the afternoon. They were all too old for naps (except the adults!), so this way they rested & cooled off. We then had ADRs every night for dinner between 5-6, then headed back to the room for a dip & were in bed by 9-9:30.

I'm not saying this is for everyone, but working with your children's rhythms is always wise!

Our 2nd trip it rained one day late in the trip; DD 11 had homework, adults & DS9 vegged in the room & DS14 went to EPCOT by himself (we all love Innovations)--I think he enjoyed a bit of time away from us & a bit of independence.

The best advice that helps us is don't plan it,wing it maybe this works for us as we are staying 16 nights, we managed to do all the rides, parks etc and not burn out! We did it at our pace and park hopped a lot.

  1. Pop up laundry hamper. Best thing I packed.
  2. Less is more. Pack half the clothing you think you need and do laundry mid week. Facilities onsite are nice and take debit cards. Machines are also HE so bear in mind if you bring detergent.
  3. Make ADRs but don't be afraid to cancel if you don't want to be locked into a reservation. our best meals had some spontaneity.
  4. Talk to people - met some amazing folks while waiting on or riding resort bus
  5. Change shoes. If not midday, alternate pairs each day
  6. Pack meds like seasonal allergy medicine and pain relievers. Incredibly $ at gift shops. Same goes for band aids.
  7. Check weather in advance and pack for temps but bring ponchos and a rain jacket. It will likely rain and possibly for just a moment.
  8. Memory maker was a great value for us. First time I've ever been in photos. :/
  9. Pack Ziplocs for wet suits etc
  10. Pack a power strip. With two adults and two 8+ kids we had a lot of devices needing charging.

Agree with all of these....particularly the pop up hamper. I never leave home without one!

We pack a suitcase inside a suitcase. If you are going to shop at all, then you may need the extra room going home. If not, just pack it inside again.

We take a fold up duffel bag in our suitcase to accomodate our shopping purchases. It takes up very little room and weighs next to nothing.
