Why is BOG Dinner so Popular?

What is it about BOG Dinner reservations that make it so difficult to get? Is the food REALLY that good? Is the restaurant really different for dinner? We got dinner reservations for our trip because that is apparently 'the thing to do' according to the internet and our friends who have been but not sure if it is really worth planning our trip around. What is so different between dinner and lunch? Help me understand why its so wonderful. Thanks!

Lunch is more on par with a quick service location's offerings, while dinner offers pretty good TS entree's.
The hype is because it's new, the first character dining with Beast and the experience of being in the castle

I think reservations are so hard to come by because people just want to see the inside of the castle and be able to say they dined there. We have dined there several times for lunch and dinner. Lunch is more of a sandwich type option while dinner is a full menu offering. Dinner is also the only place in the MK where you will find beer or wine offered. I must admit we enjoy lunch there over dinner. To me dinner is just OK. It's really neither good or bad. If you have dinner reservations I would keep them and see for yourself. It's always great to try new places.

IMO the food was mediocre at best, but it's the only place in Magic Kingdom to have a glass of wine or a beer :drinking:

I have no idea... It's not all that great. Guess because "everyone else is doing it? I have to too" mentality? I stalked the ADR site for weeks and finally got one a few weeks ago. It was ok, but nothing to right home about. We will stick to lunch at BOG from now on.

We go because we love the atmosphere and food. It's our favorite table service dinner in MK. We actually don't plan any other TS dinners or lunches in MK. Only Crystal Palace breakfast on some trips.

We've done lunch before too and it's good, but similar flavors to dinner. I don't personally recommend both lunch and dinner. We had both scheduled for our trip next week, but happily switched lunch for breakfast when that opened!

Now breakfast is another story. (We are on the dining plan). I could personally eat breakfast here at least 4 times on our trip. I am a breakfast person and love the options available and the atmosphere. Sadly for me, we are only eating here twice for breakfast on our trip next week. :rotfl2:Cronut one day, and egg sandwich or meats the second. Unless the cronut is to die for, of course. Other QS breakfasts in MK don't appeal to me. I can still get my cinnamon roll as a snack. We don't have kids yet (September!) so Crystal palace and CRT aren't a MUST for us. I'd rather use a QS credit on BOG than a TS on CP since the character selection doesn't appeal to us.

You gave the reason in your question. It's because 'it's the thing to do'. People want what they hear is popular, which, in turn, aids in the popularity. Basically, it's the new Le Cellier. Although it's not the newest restaurant, it is the newest in the most popular park, so even day-guests might try to eat there, whereas if it was at a hotel they wouldn't bother. Plus, the menu is pretty 'safe'. I don't think we'd see the same craziness if they put, say, Sanaa in its place (even though I LOVE Sanaa, the menu can be too eclectic for some).

I will say that we did enjoy our dinner there and are planning on eating at BOG during our next trip. My sister and I found the service to be great and the food above average.

We have eaten there for lunch and there was a lot of activity with people walking around to look at all the rooms. Is it like that at dinner? For those who have been to both, any difference in the atmosphere between lunch and dinner?

No, the food is ok at best.
A few years back everyone used to rave about Le Cellier. It was the restaurant that use to be hard to get into. when I finally had dinner there I was soooo disappointed. I couldn't believe this was the place where people were swearing that it was the best steak they had ever had. lol

The setting is the main draw. We ate there once, have no desire to eat there again. we leave the park for dinner

I have really struggled with what to do with BOG. While I think we would love the experience, the menu for both lunch and dinner just do not appeal to our family. I wish they had the option of a later breakfast so we could do RD and have a 10:30 or 11 AM breakfast, but lunch and dinner just do not have choices that would work for our family.

Definitely not as many people walking around at dinner, at least in our experience. We've had dinner there 5x and lunch once and much prefer dinner. Perfect food and perfect service every time :goodvibes DH and I as well as DS9 think it's the best TS in MK and it's pretty much mine and younger DS's favorite TS overall. Atmosphere can't be beat, either.

Lunch was ok but honestly we didn't think it was any better than other CS in MK and much prefer CHH. Yes BOG has different offerings which is nice but we didn't think the quality was any better. It's also more chaotic at lunch with all the people walking around looking at other rooms and taking pictures, and louder. We haven't found that as many people walk around the different rooms at dinner and definitely not as many take pictures.

This statement matches my sentiments exactly. The first and only time I dined at Le Cellier I was expecting the world to shake under my feet and to encounter an out of body experience over this mushroom filet so many raved about... I was as let down as my first kiss with Wendy in the first grade 45 years ago. :rotfl: We experienced BOG for lunch (forget dinner), thought it was ok, and will actually return. But while the setting is nice, the food is merely average and is not a restaurant I'm going to wake up at before the crack of dawn to try and frantically get an ADR as is frequently done for dinner. I am not one who will dine at a restaurant just because of the atmosphere. For me, the food is first and foremost. Like you, there are way to many excellent restaurants in the MK resorts that we much prefer.

We really liked the food at BOG for dinner. We are hoping to get to try breakfast on our next trip if the test continues on our fall trip. But it wasn't life changing or anything. The main attraction for us was the see the Beast and the castle so we could take some pictures. I don't get what is so special about cupcakes for dessert anyway they seem to be around every corner at disney. I was a bit disappointed with the dessert selection at dinner. There are much better French pastries at Les Halles. Now don't get me wrong the food is good. I really liked my soup though and the salmon dish was yummy. But its not 1000x better than an other restaurant at disney. I think part of the hype is the lack of options for table service in the magic kingdom. Hopefully the new jungle cruise restaurant will help spread out the hoard a bit.

The atmosphere makes it a popular restaurant, and it's the only place on property where you have the chance the meet the Beast. Last time we went, I enjoyed the food. Was it the greatest food I've ever had? No, it wasn't, but it tasted good. I plan on going back. We had good food, good service, and the atmosphere can't be beat.

I feel like Le Cellier gets set up for failure because of that very hype.
People walk in wanting to be blown away, while no restaurant lives up to immense hype and 140-180 day camp outs, now you get into a place that's LOUD, close seating and a ton of kids/park attire with flustered servers.
People see the pricing and 2TS, plan for an upscale experience and then the atmosphere immediately kills it for those people and now they're going into the meal itself already disappointed. The steak itself, on our visits, has been on par with our monthly Del Frisco's or Barclay Prime visit back home.

Same here as well. DW is very picky about her food. We do have our favorite places where she does enjoy to dine. About the only thing she may have would be the Thyme-scented Pork Rack Chop as long as it's plain. She does love the movie and I'm sure would love the theme of BOG. Still trying to get an ADR for one of our nights in August.
