We are taking a extended family trip in May with myself, DW, DD, BIL,SIL, their daughter and my wife's parents. DW and I will already be at the world as we are going in Saturday checking into Poly for two nights. Everyone else comes in on Monday where we check into a GV at SSR. BIL booked early flights for Monday and they will get to MCO at 9:30am. Our room at SSR won't be ready till 4:00. We would go to a park early, but they bought 4 day military tickets so to add an extra park day would mean buying extra single day tickets. On top of all this I'm worried about them being tired when they get in and them not having a place to relax. Any ideas on what to do on this first day? We have thought about pool at SSR or maybe DTD but not sure. I could look into maybe getting one more night added to our poly reservation so on that Monday they could just meet us at Poly and have a room to rest in. If I can get the room it's only 20ish points.

Anyone that is 18 or over and on the reservation can check in to SSR starting @07:00.
They can spend day at the resort pool or DTD, as a relaxing time to prepare for the parks starting the next day.
You do know that you will have to be out of PVB by 11:00?
Do you know the steps needed to move your "stuff" over to SSR?
If not, move steps:
Have your items packed and ready for pickup.
On move day call Bell Services to come and pickup your items.
Tell Bell Services which items are to be keep cold and which frozen.
Go check-in to new resort and do whatever you have planned for the day.
When the room is ready and after @ 2-4 go to the room.
Call Bell Services of the check-in resort and they will deliver your items to the room.
You MUST be in the room for both the pickup and delivery.

We are thinking about hanging out by the pool, but with them getting to MCO at 9:30 am that gets them to SSR around 11. 5 hours before the room is ready. Might be a long time at the pool. The other issue is their flight leaves DFW at 6:00am. I think they will have to leave their house at 4am to make their flight. I wish they would have taken a later flight since I know that's going to be a long day.

On two occasions after taking a red eye flight to MCO I arrived at my resort on both occasions around 6AM and of course check-in wasn't until the afternoon. I got lucky once and my room was ready so I was able to get into my villa immediately. On the other occasion I left my suitcase at the front desk, had breakfast, changed and hung out by the pool for the majority of the morning.

Just make sure they're listed so they can "check in" for the reservation. My suggestion would be to do so, maybe stroll over to DD for lunch then hang out by the pool if the weather is OK. If the weather is bad, the lounge at SSR is quite nice with a pool table. Part of the equation is how you are getting from the Poly to SSR, whether you will have a car and whether you'll forego the parks to meet up with them. An alternative would be to have them come to the Poly and do lunch (or a late breakfast) at one of the monorail resorts, maybe a character meal.

Let them check their bags with bell service and then hop on a bus or boat. The character meal would be a good idea, but I think it might be pushing it for them to get there in time. They could ride the boat or walk to DTD and you could bus there. Have a nice lunch together, since they will be hungry. Their daughter may like to check out a few of the stores, like the LEGO store. You could even do Quest or Splitsville. Then boat or walk (we love the boats :)) back over to SSR. Spend the afternoon in the pool until you can get into your room. I would pack a small separate bag with swim clothes.

I really don't recommend planning that whole time at the pool. We made the mistake of doing that at BCV, on the switch day of our split. Even with SAB my kids were bored of the pool, and hot. It was a very long day!!

We do on line check n (without giving a credit card) they ask you what time you will arrive...if at all possible they will try to provide an available room. We've been lucky more than a few times...getting our rooms before noon! Only once at 5pm.

We will skip the parks on Monday and come over from the Poly and to SSR. We will go ahead and check in and maybe get lucky an our GV will be ready. I'm just hoping they are not super worn out Monday when they get in because if the room is not ready till 4 that may ge a long time without a good break.

At SSR you may be very lucky getting into the GV early. At this point, only the weekend of the 23 is not available. There may not be anyone in the unit the night before your arrival.

When we arrive early, we head over to DTD for lunch, walk around some then head back to the pool. They have a community hall too.

I'm all about the pool... or how 'bout some shopping at DTD???
