Any Successes with Low Sodium Meals?

We are planning a trip to WDW in December. My mom has been diagnosed with a medical condition that requires her to have a low sodium diet--under 2000 mg per day. Her situation is such that she can't vary off of this even for a week. I have been trying to research what options there might be available, but there is very little information out there. I have read Disney's official statements about special diets and have read through several special diet threads so I know a little bit of what to expect. So far I have been able to identify the allergy chicken tenders, Amy's gluten free Mac & Cheese, and the Mickey Check Meals as low sodium options, but I'm wondering if there are others to add some variety for my mom. We had originally planned to stick mainly to QS meals before the diagnosis, but are now recognizing that we will need to add some TS meals for my mom. Breakfast is not an issue as my mom will be bringing a low sodium protein shake to have in her hotel room.

Unfortunately, I was not able to find any threads that share experiences specifically about eating a low sodium diet at WDW. I was curious to hear if anyone has had success getting this specific need met and which locations (both CS and TS) were the most helpful.

Thanks in advance for any help and information you may be able to share! :goodvibes

It might be best to do buffet meals. Then, you have quite a variety of more natural foods like salad and fruit and so forth. I would stay away from prepared entrees. Sometimes you can get a chef to come out and suggest salt free or low salt items.

Send an email to special diets and ask. They may have a better idea for you.

I'm on a low sodium diet have found that it is hard to get information on salt content for Disney meals. I apply the regular rules of the road (or what I do everywhere else), Salad, Fruit, no processed meat. You can look at the menus of the places you want to go and see whats available, most of the time you'll find something that you can have. And most of the QS places have an option, usually grilled chicken or fish. You can also ask at TS places and they can help guide you toward a lower salt option.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, I will definitely do that.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! It does seem extremely difficult to get information on salt content. I appreciate being able to hear what has worked for you.

I would like to thank you for inspiring me! I just called and added low salt requests to my reservations for April and was told that the TS chefs can prepare a low salt meal for you (However I took that with a grain of salt!) I will check it out tho, I would like to be a little more adventurous with my Disney dining:drinking1

That's great! I hope it works out well for you! Please let us know how it goes! I would love to hear what your experiences are with the low salt request!

I actually wish they would have Mickey Check Meals for adults that meet certain nutritional guidelines. I would order them for myself!

Does anyone know if they have the egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches that they have at most Starbucks at the Starbucks locations in the parks? Just curious because the nutritional info is listed on those and it's something that my mom has been able to eat. Thanks!

I am also on a low sodium diet so maybe I can help some. The chefs do a wonderful job of preparing low sodium foods. My favorite is O'hana, they've made me everything on the regular menu in low sodium :) The chefs will go over the menus with you and tell you what your options are. Most starches are pre-made and full of salt but they will substitute extra veggies for those. They will also take you through the buffets and point out good options and also bring you something from the kitchen if u want it prepared with less sodium. Counter service meals are tough though. About the only options are bland dry chicken breast sandwiches that take forever to cook. If we're not on the dining plan I choose the Mickey check kids meals. They all have less than 650 mg of sodium and they are filling and tasty. Any more questions just ask. Have a great trip!!

Hi
I just returned from a trip
and I ate alot at Starbucks-all three bristo boxes
1 Fruit and cheese = 470 sodium
2 Chicken Humus = 580 sodium
3 My Fav-Protein Bristo Box= 470 sodium

Their smoothie's are my favorite morning drink
orange mango = 0 sodium
Greek Yogurt Raspberry Lemon Parfait = 140 mg. sodium
Greek Yougurt mixed Berries = 115 sodium (and it is delicious)
Cranberry Orange Scone =430 sodium
Lemon Pound Cake with sweet icing = 310 sodium
Double chocolate Chunk Brownie = 170 sodium (this one surprised me.)

here is a link to their site which has some info on nutritional

Thank you so much, Jonell and bababear_50!! Can't tell you how much the info you provided is appreciated and has helped! It has definitely given us hope that we can have success finding low sodium meals! I'm glad to hear about how helpful the chefs are and that the Mickey Check Meals are a filling and tasty option. I also really appreciate all of the nutritional info for Starbucks! It's very helpful! Do you know if their bistro boxes would work as a QS credit? We are hoping for Free Dining if it's offered. It will be fine if they're not because we will just pay OOP as needed.

I really appreciate everyone's insights who have replied to my questions. Thank you!

Hi
I wasn't on the dinning plan so I am not sure if the Bristo Boxes count as a Qs Dinning Credit.
I do know I felt for a little under $6.00 each they were worth the price.
Here is the most up to date link I could find on info regarding Snack Credits at Starbucks.

Thank you for the link and info! It sounds like they are a good deal so we could easily pay OOP for them. If we don't get FD we will pay OOP for all of our meals anyways. Thanks again!
