There are definitely pluses and minuses to staying here at Kidani. The HUGE plus is the square footage. Traveling with teenage boys it's nice to have my own private room and bathroom. It makes simple things like showering, getting dressed, changing clothes, etc, so much easier. Also it gives the boys their own bathroom and TV, so I haven't been subjected to endless tournament games this week. ;) The full kitchen is awesome, we've had breakfast here every morning, and I love brewing my own Starbucks coffee first thing when I wake up. We have plenty of space for drinks and snacks, so I think it saves money in the end. I don't choose to cook meals, but we definitely could if we wanted to do that. Also I've used the washer/dryer a few times, we are all leaving tomorrow with suitcases full of clean clothes. So that helps a lot. :D The view from our balcony is awesome, we've really enjoyed watching the animals. Everything I've requested from housekeeping has come quickly. We haven't had any issues with noise. All in all a great trip! :thumbsup2

On the negative side... you really are pretty far away from the action out here. Normally when staying at an Epcot resort (for example) we would walk the Boardwalk area almost every night, enjoy the entertainment, have ice cream, movie on the beach, and usually find a spot to watch Illuminations. Or over at a monorail resort, we'd make an effort to see Wishes and/or the EWP, monorail hop to different resorts for shopping and dining. Out here you don't have nighttime options, so you have to get on a bus, or drive somewhere to hunt down some entertainment. That isn't a big deal but we seem to lose our motivation to head back out late at night once we get back here to the resort. It just seems far. One night we did regroup and go to DTD to the movies. But most other nights we purposely planned to stay out later to avoid coming back here and going back out. I don't know why it seems like more of a hassle.

We were really missing Stormalong Bay on this trip. We had some perfect days early in the week that would have been ideal for the pool. We did go down to the Uzima pool here one day, it was OK, but my kids are too old for the splash playground and we felt the pool didn't really have much to offer. The deck area is too small so you can't really sit around the pool, plus it felt pretty crowded. It would probably be better to head over to the main AKL pool for a better experience.

Taking everything into consideration I will definitely keep Kidani in the rotation. I believe our last stay here was in 2011, so I'm sure we'll be back at some point. I'm very excited for our next stay at the GF!!! :cheer2: I didn't get nearly enough time at MK this trip and we only saw Wishes one time, so it will be nice to focus on that area. The boys are begging to go back to the YC/BC again soon, so maybe we'll head there in the fall. I'm toying around with the idea of a Disney cruise, if I can muster up the nerve to get on a boat for the first time :scared1: I know, I know, I'm really missing out. I need to bite the bullet and just go for it.

:goodvibes

Did a Disney cruise to Alaska and one to Caribbean. Both magical. Get on the boat! You will love it.

I know, I have an insane phobia. I'm afraid I'm going to be sea sick and I won't be able to get off. :crazy2:
We did the Dream in April 2011, right after it launched. Beautiful ship but my husband said he didn't want to do another cruise after that. I know he didn't care for rotational dining )plus we didn't know that we could request to sit alone, not share dining with strangers nightly). He hates making small talk. Plus we had wind and rough seas our last two days, almost didn't make CC and shore excursions were cancelled. Then the day at sea was too cold and windy to enjoy the pools . We stayed in all day and watched classic Disney movies on the on demand channel!

That's my biggest fear, rough seas. :scared:

One last evening on the balcony :)

We sort of have the rejects over on this side of the resort ;) No giraffes or zebras, but plenty of vultures LOL :D

Tomorrow I will have about 4 hours to kill, I'm trying to decide if I want to go to MK or DTD.... Hmmmmm :scratchin

Good night everyone! :goodvibes

This was similar to our experience when we stayed at Old Key West with our son, two grandsons and my two sisters. The 2BR villa was great for our group. We had a nice breakfast in the villa every morning and the washer/dryer was put to good use when it rained all day Saturday. And normally we do what you do on a trip, walk around the Boardwalk or Epcot or hop into the MK for fireworks. But since OKW was so far away from the parks compared to the Epcot resorts or the WL, it seemed more practical to just stay at a park all day then come back after dinner. I would stay there again in a heartbeat in the same situation - large group of people and a really great passholder discount. :thumbsup2 But for a regular trip with just the two of us, then it is the BC or WL for us. :goodvibes

I enjoyed following along once again! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. This helps the waiting for my May trip!!

thanks for the great live updates! I loved following along too :) 19 days till we are back at BWV!

While you're waiting for those pics I just have to say that I picked up my Mom successfully and we are now at The Villages! Hopefully she either buys a house this time or decides against it... I'm not sure how many more of these browsing trips I have left in me. :teeth::p:ssst:

I ended up having to turn my pager back in and leave before getting inside. I had to go pick up Mom from the airport. But I'm going to try and get in again later in the week. :) Hopefully I can! :cloud9:

Thanks so much for the pics and videos from Trader Sam's. It looks amazing! I was really concerned about booking our stay at the Poly this summer, but I'm starting to feel better since the pool will be finished. I stopped in during my February trip, and the lobby isn't as bad as I thought it would be - I do miss the giant rock waterfall, but they did a nice job on the renovation. Now if they could just get the beach view back....

The lobby isn't bad, it's very open and feels much larger....

This is why I'm waiting.... this is the Hawaii building:

The noise was definitely high all around this area, not my idea of a vacation.

Ugh! Yes, not pretty at all! Hopefully this will all be gone by the end of July - I think it will be, but then we'll have to deal with the quiet pool construction. I imagine that at least will be a bit more contained....
