British Isles unreal

It is only one cruise. Low supply. High demand I suppose.

It's funny, but I wouldn't actually take the cruise if I won it for free. I wouldn't want to spend my vacation weeks that way. I've been to all those places. Very nice most of them. But spending hours on buses to get from the port to the actual places, then being herded around like cattle on quick sightseeing tours is not for me. How much of the ship do you actually experience on those cruises? And it could be cold and rainy. And you're not going to see anything from the ship until you're 10 minutes from land.

I agree the cruise is expensive, but it seems to be selling out. Companies price to the market. If anything, they have left money on the table by pricing the British Isles cruise too low.

MUN

Also, I forgot you only sail at cat 4a, thanks for the reminder. :)

People said the same thing about the Iceland/Norway cruise last year when it sold out so quickly. Now look at it. It's only about 50% full. Lot's of cancellations. People book cruises and unfortunately life gets in the way and they can't take the cruise or they book it thinking maybe they can afford it. Who knows. When cruises are priced that high it doesn't take much of a set back in finances for someone to cancel. It will be interesting to see what the availability is a year from now.

I am very disappointed in DCL, this year might be the last time we cruise with them since the prices of each cruise has increase by a huge amount. Don't know if I will stay a DVC member and keep my 430 points a year or just get rid of them since we only like to do the cruises and use the points for them. Now you will have to buy more points or pay cash for the cruises cause the points will only now cover 1/8 the cruise. Remember we only sail on cat 4a so here is the breakdown for a family of 4.

British Isles cruises

Princess-mini sweet 299 sqft= $11,396

Royal Crib 401 sqft room 14 night= $10,479

Are you ready for this
Disney 304 sqft room 12 night= $20,731

Sorry Disney you are getting pretty greedy on your cruises.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!! I was so disappointed to go online today to book this cruise only to find that the cost of my family of three in the lowest rate cabin was going to cost me $9,000. Our upcoming Northern Europe cruise was less than half this cost with an upgraded cabin. Not to mention there would still be airfare and shore excursion expenses. We LOVE Disney, but are a middle class family and this is just too rich for our blood. I'm glad that some people on here can afford to book concierge for the cost of a car, but that just isn't reality for a large amount of people. Is Disney only for the rich and famous these days?

Agree.

My husband worked and lived in London for years. The English Countryside is second to none. STUNNING... IMHO.... The best way to see this magnificent country is renting a car and driving it. To pay $20,000 for a few ports when you can see the country in depth does not make sense to me.

As a Londoner fully agree inside is best and the North Sea and Irish Sea the worst, you save a bit on car traffic but if you hit the weather bad you will wonder why your there. In needed to be in late July or August to stand a chance of consistent warm and dry weather.

few thoughts:

1) I have consistently heard that using DVC points for cruising is a BAD idea, that you are better off paying for cruises separately and using your points for the resorts.
2) I wonder what the concierge deposit is on a 40-68K cruise?? Its movable but non refundable.
3) When the dust settles, I think a lot of folks will cancel or move their booking
4) Are they really charging over 40K entry fee to concierge on BI sailing? yikes! I have been extremely fortunate to have sailed in royals 6 times between all four ships so far but this is WAY too much IMO

It's 20% of the cost.

Yes they have hiked it up year but year and now on the old ships us not value for money, done will pay I bet they will get to a point soon that people will Not pay and they have over priced themselves.

No, the best way to see the English countryside is to hike through it! ;) I have spent many vacations hiking through England and while large mountains might be more spectacular, the overall package of a hiking trip in England is just the best In my opinion. Hiking from St Ives to Penzance in Cornwall around Land's End is still one of my top 5 vacations ever!

I love your breakdown by square footage. I posted the same thing on the DIS a few years ago to DEFEND DCL but I agree that the tide is changing. The cost of DCL has been an ongoing topic here for years. It was usually followed with a comment like "it's not worth the free soda". Then, I chose to compare like to like. DCL family stateroom came out as the same price as a Princess mini suite and Celebrity suite. Your current research shows otherwise today.

We started with DCL in 2008. At that time we didn't know better when cruisers, who had been sailing for a decade already, were complaining about price increases. Now I feel like that guy who says "remember when they used to walk to school in three feet of snow".

Mixing it up is our new routine. With DCL the ship is the destination. I love them for winter or spring break. First day booking and OBB is a must otherwise. However I have sailed in a Princess mini suite twice and had outstanding trips including the British Isles. We will leave on Norwegian this April. Although hesitant at first because of the line's reputation, we are using their price point to sail concierge for the first time.

Lastly, I'll point out that I typed this up while listening to Space Mountain music on mouseworldradio. Mickey will always run through my blood. My son just asked me: "Dad do you ever listen to normal music?"

I have also sailed concierge level on all 4 ships, as a matter of fact all of my DCL cruises except one have been in suites. I would never pay the prices they are now asking for concierge level on the classics, even the Transatlantics which used to be a great deal are out there in terms of pricing. Besides a nicer room and a bit more personal service the perks are weak and not even close to being worth the premium price. There is not really anything that makes the experience exclusive enough for such a high price tag. No private courtyard, pool or hot tubs. No private lounge or suite only dining room. We can get all of that plus more for so much less on other lines. Actually, I'm writing this from a comfy lounge chair in the gorgeous, enclosed with retractable roof Haven courtyard on our last sea day of our Spring Break NCL Breakaway cruise. We've been totally spoiled by our awesome butler and amazing Concierge team for less than half of what DCL was asking for a concierge suite for this same week.

Love, Love, Love the Haven.

The concierge rooms for the Europe sailings started getting way out of whack a couple years ago, and then went *way* up last year. I had a concierge room held for me by my TA for the 12 night Baltics and it was $48k for four of us in a T I-bedroom. I can't find it now, but someone had posted a price chart from the original Baltics in 2010 (which I had been going off of to ask her to hold one for me), and I think it was around 3 times as much for 2015. Of course, the cruise is sold out in concierge so people are paying it. Concierge is clearly extremely profitable for them. I'd love to see the breakdown in revenue--wonder what % the concierge rooms covers.

Yes!!! True!!! But with 3 kids in tow - we need a car!!

ahhhh.... I just love England!

Not only has Disney raised the prices over and over but now they blackout the european cruises from allowing you to use the 10% onboard booking discount.

Everyone loves England, Everyone loves London. I am lucky to see it every day.

Yes, we are spending a week in London this summer after our Tauck Bridges Ireland tour. London is one our favorite cities as well as Paris, Barcelona, NYC, Chicago and LA. All of them have so much to offer to those who live there and to those who visit.
