Somebody's Gonna Pee in a Cup, West Coast - Link to new TR 1/21

So I'm all caught up, finally! Actually I've been caught up but I haven't been replying; between trying to get DD to sleep in her own bed, work and home repairs I haven't had a lot of time. Parenthood is very busy.

Chef Mickey's looks like a ton of fun with the kiddos. And I like that you guys kept it in your plans even if it wasn't in its traditional time slot for you guys. I bet Mickey was shocked when DD smacked him! I wonder how many times characters are struck by small children...

I like the mini recap on WDW. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on FP+ I think time of year has a HUGE impact on how well it works. I read today that they're testing a forth FP...? Interested to see how this thing will end up working by the time we go in September.

Glad you've managed to miss the flu! Sis is in NYC and she says it's been brutal. Even here in Florida we had one of the worst flu season in a decade. We managed to miss it; I might have flipped out if my infant child managed to get the flu.

The furnace. I can not tell you how glad I am to not have to deal with a furnace. We have the opposite trouble; when the central air stops working durning a South Florida summer there are nothing but happy snow men in this city, if you know what I'm saying.

So this is my future? Babies going crazy at 30,000 feet? The joy! I always felt so bad for the parents of upset children on planes, and now that I am a parent I'm completely paranoid that my child will be the one screaming. My heart goes out to you and DW.

I am the same way with driving in new places; once I get it I've got it, but it doesn't happen right away. I've never been to California, but I have heard that driving is a pain out there.

Glad the hotel was nice! I'm sure you guys were glad to get settled in after your lovely flight out west. Can't wait to see how you started your convention day!

I was way behind on my comments, but finally catching up!

And they strip sister down and change her right there in front of everyone.
Oh my gosh! Some people lose all of their good judgement when at WDW, I guess. :confused3 Poor girl - no wonder she was trying to mess up the pictures after being used like a mannequin. :sad2:

Those photos are just adorable! :lovestruc

She nailed it. Head on. Square contact. I’m talking she went from 4 mph (however fast they go) to 0 in the blink of an eye.
:lmao: Wow, that must have been quite the crazy thing to see. :rotfl2:

DD had her sippy cup with her in the theater and dropped it during one of the scenes. It rolled down about 4 rows towards the front, so we had to look for it after the show ended before we could leave, but we were able to find it and get it back.
I thought you were going to say it rolled down so far that it stayed with the stage and you rotated away from it. Glad it wasn't so bad. :goodvibes

Those little grins are just adorable! It's like they're sharing a secret or something.

DD just stood there and looked at him for a few seconds. I think she was trying to figure out what she was supposed to do. Then she reached out and smacked him right on the nose.
:lmao: That's awesome. At least Mickey probably doesn't have a terribly sensitive nose. ::yes::

One thing that is really annoying is that they want you to plan all this way out ahead of time when they don't even had the park hours or other details finalized. I know that even as of now a lot of the details for Star Wars Weekends aren't out yet, yet people's FP+ window is already open. But some of the SWW stuff is eligible for FP+ ... but not yet because they don't know when it will be. So people are setting up placeholder FP+ just with the aim to switch them to the SWW stuff when it is out. That just seems a little nuts to have to do. If Disney is going to "make" people plan this far in advance then everything they would need to know to make those plans should be out.
Hey, I think this is about ME! :rotfl:

She did end up falling asleep in DW’s lap eventually so it didn’t work out too horribly.
Sorry your flight was so rough. Maybe she was extra difficult because of the lack of sleep before the flight - I know I would be if I got up at that hour. :rotfl2: Glad she finally passed out!

All of a sudden, I felt someone grab my shoulder. I woke up in a panic, just in time to see the guy who had grabbed my shoulder pass out on the floor of the plane.
:scared1: That would be really scary! Glad everything was okay and a doctor was there to help.

We’d had a full day of travel already, finally settled into our home for 3 nights, and it was still not even 11 am.
:faint: What a morning! So funny to think about all that happening and most of the day still in front of you.

All caught up! Didn't realize I'd fallen so far behind.

That family in front of you at the Frozen meet and greet sounded interesting. I don't think parents stop to think about their surroundings sometimes. Sure, 99% of the people don't care if you're changing your kid in a public place, but you always have to account for that 1%. On our last trip, I saw a family waiting for park opening need to change their daughter from long sleeves to shor sleeves. They had all the adults and older siblings circle around her and created a barrier. It was quick and effective.

Nice photos from Chef Mickey's.

Don't feel too bad about skipping the Poly. There's still so much construction going on that it would have been a distraction, new lobby or not.

Yikes, not the smoothest flights ever. You guys could just not win with your DD that morning. But sometimes, I feel like kids are that way intentionally. They aren't in the best moods and they know what snacks and movies you don't have, and they want them simply because they aren't available.
The joys of toddlers.

Not to mention I think he said she looked about 9 years old? I would have been MORTIFIED at 9 years old (or even 7 or 8 for that matter) to change out in public... If it were a 2 or 3 year old i could MAYBE understand (even though I still prob wouldnt do it), but that family seemd to have a few screws loose.

Yay, you started the California trip!

:cool1:

Wow, you sure had some pre-trip turmoil.

At least you could look forward to some relaxing peace and quiet on the plane.

:sad2:

YIKES!!! So scary about the man who collapsed next to you. :scared1:

Glad you arrived safely at your hotel, even without a compass. A Dodge Charger is cool! What color? :car:

Time to get some lunch, I think! and is it warm enough for a swim?

:fish:

Seriously, Disney corn bread is the best.
You really feel that way? I never really noticed. :confused3

Great picture!!! So immmm... how was the food?

We really weren’t in a hurry for this meal… for some reason.
Oh no? I wonder why?

When we stopped at MK, a girl probably in her early teens got on with a golden retriever companion dog.
Sounds legit. Better than a parrot or a pig.

His take was “It looks like Lake Michigan but bigger waves.”
Humm.... interesting observation.

I could wake up to that view everyday.

But I don’t know if that accounted for the traffic situation on I-95 or not.
Haven't you learned if you can, avoid i95 at all costs?

I just don’t think I recovered from the all night drive quite as quickly as I have in years past.
This means you are getting old.

There was a doctor the row in front of me
Did he look like this?

drleslienielsen.jpg

I chose a Dodge Charger because it looked like it had the bigger trunk of any of them. And we needed every cubic inch of trunk space available to us!
I know this all too well.

For the record, I never did find a compass anywhere. I thought that was standard equipment in the modern automobile?
You telling us you didn't bring your sun dial with you?

So I'm a little behind.

LOL

UNDERSTATEMENT!

After a quick restroom break, we were off to do a new attraction for us… Festival of the Lion King.

I have to say, it was a good show. I’m definitely glad I finally saw it. I might be villified for saying this, but it didn’t really live up to the hype, to me. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed it, but I don’t think it is something that we’ll need to do every trip, by any means.

But part of my opinion may be a little bit clouded because of the kids. They weren’t into this show at all, and it was getting a little frustrating trying to keep them distracted. It reached a point where I just wanted the show to end so we could get out of there and move on to something else. I think anybody who is a parent, can totally relate to this.

When the show ended, I went to get the stroller and met everyone else next to Tusker House to load the kids back up and head off to our next adventure. Nobody was really in the mood to walk the animal trails, and it was just about time for the restaurants to open for lunch. We decided since we wanted to take a long break, we’d just grab some lunch and then probably head out of the park.

Squirrelly kids can really ruin a show. Not that they ruin it on purpose of course but ti's exhausting trying to keep them engaged, pay attention to the show on your own and actually enjoy any of it. It has happened to all of us. There will be a point in time where it will be magical for all of you, this just wasn't it.

Our usual lunch spot in AK is Flame Tree BBQ. But that is also the only place I’ve ever had lunch at AK. We thought we’d change it up and try something different. I always thought that Dinoland was a fun area, so we headed over there to check out Restaurantosaurus. It just made sense because we also had FP+ for Dinosaur if we felt like riding after lunch.

And let me just say, this turned out to be a mistake. Wow…. Definitely should have stuck with Flame Tree.

We were in the restaurant early in the day. It hadn’t been open for lunch more than 15 minutes or so. There was hardly anyone in there at all. But the service left something to be desired.
When the CM gave me our tray, there was no drink for the kids meal. I pointed it out and he turned to go get it for us. At this point, I figured I should take inventory of our tray. I found that they also left off a dessert, and they didn’t put any fries in the bucket with the kids meal. I pointed this out to the CM manning the line and he grabbed our dessert and went to the meal prep area and asked for an order of fries.

Apparently, it takes a direct order from Mickey Mouse himself to get an order filled that isn’t given to them through the automated system. The CM helping me kept asking for another order of fries. The guy who was putting the orders together told him he couldn’t do it. A manager came over to the CM helping me and told him to forget about it and get filled trays to other customers. I don’t know if they thought someone was just asking for a side of fries that wasn’t actually paid for or what, but the CM helping me seemed to be the only one interested in filling our order. The manager never came and talked to me, but I heard her comment and I might have taken it the wrong way. Either way, I was determined to stand in that spot and hold up a line if I had to until I had my full order on my tray. I might have been “one of those guests” at that point in time to others behind me… Although, I never resorted to rudeness or name calling or anything like that. And I was still polite with the CM the whole time.

I promise.

Eventually, the trays started stacking up on the counter, because the CM helping me was appareantly taking the same passive aggressive stance I took and refused to move until they gave him the fries he’d asked for about 900 times. Once he finally got them, he put them on my tray, I smiled, said thank you and went to find a seat.

I have a hard time picking on the CM who was helping me. He was earning his ears and you could see he was visibly flustered by everything. He was nothing but polite and kind to me, so I certainly appreciated his effort. In the end, he did take care of me, but it was a much longer process to get our food than it should have been.

I found everyone else sitting at a table. MiL and FiL had gone to another line and I think they were about half done eating by the time I got there. The meal itself though, wasn’t bad at all. I had a burger, which I enjoyed. It was definitely on par with Pecos Bills and they had a small toppings bar in there as well. I think we all enjoyed our meals, and DS loved getting a bucket and shovel, but the service definitely made us wish we had gone somewhere else for lunch.

That kind of experience can utterly ruin a place for you. I've still never eaten there and this doesn't make me want to!

Making progress

It was around 4:30 am when DD came running into our bedroom screaming.

Bubby’s gone! Bubby’s gone!

Nothing like a nice surge of adrenaline in the middle of the night when you’re planning to sleep in a bit.

We had talked about this a bit before. We were concerned that DS might try to leave the room when we didn’t want him to. He was able to reach both of the security locks on our door, and during afternoon breaks and in the morning when we were getting ready, we’d let him walk across the hall to MiL and FiL’s room. And he was able to let himself back in using his Magic Band. We were afraid that he’d wake up in the middle of the night and want to see his mammaw and pappaw.

DW and I both jumped out of bed and ran out to the front room. I checked the door and both security locks were still latched. I felt relieved at that point since it meant he couldn’t have left the room..

DW was checking the fold out couch that DS and DD were sleeping on. Turns out that DS was wrapped up, completely buried in blankets and when DD woke up and couldn’t see him, she thought he was gone.

That will give you a heart attack and a hard time going back to sleep!

After seeing the dolphins we went to check out the manatees and then decided to go see Turtle Talk.

We were among the last into the show, but there was some room up front on the left side for the kids. There weren’t any open benches on that side of the room, but having learned from our Enchanted Tales morning, we wanted to be close enough to get to the kids when the show ended. DW and I just stood behind the back row on the left side where we could see the kids and easily get to them when we needed to. Crush came out and had a lot of fun talking to all the little dudes.

He took time to teach the kids all the various uses of the word "dude" and he encouraged them to use the word dude as much as they could throughout the day.

So all the parents appreciated that.

DS actually raised his hand to ask a question, which really surprised me, but he didn’t get called on. Crush apparently had a pretty big impact on DS during the show though. Our kids never really watched Nemo much before that trip, but when DW let them pick out a Christmas ornament to buy, DS picked Crush.

Crush rocks, I can't blame him!

When we exited the ride though, DD didn’t want to keep our deal. She was running for the create a Figment e-mail kiosks. I grabbed her and picked her up and carried her out the door, but she wasn’t very happy with me. It really wouldn’t have been a big deal to spend some more time in there. We didn’t have big specific plans for the day anyway. But honestly, none of the adults wanted to hang around in there again and we made a deal with the kids, so we were going to hold them to their end of the deal on principle.

Of course there’s no reasoning with a 2 year old, but how else are they going to learn?

exactly, even if it is just as painful for the adult at the time!

We went outside and sat down while the kids ran around the jumping fountains again. I noticed that off in the corner there was a camera and lighting set up which would have had Spaceship Earth in the background. I don’t know if it was for some kind of a commercial or promotional video or what, but there was a little girl dressed up as princess Belle sitting in a chair talking to the camera while someone asked her questions. Her parents were standing there watching and taking pictures. They looked familiar.

It was the friendly dad from Soarin!

And nursing mom.

This time she was fully clothed.

LOL! I have mixed feelings on this one. Very pro nursing here but not a let it all hang out kind of gal. Still I can't really censure it even if I don't always find it appropriately handled. Awkward though to be sure.

After the kids burned off some energy, we headed off towards WS. We walked through the pavilions starting with Canada once again, but didn’t really do anything of note. We really just strolled around and took in the sights.

When we made our way over to the American Pavilion, we headed inside to listen to the Voices of Liberty perform Christmas and Chanukah songs before going in to watch the American Adventure. I always enjoy this show, but it had been a while since I’ve seen it. FiL is a history buff so he really loved this one. DD just wanted us to keep the fruit snacks coming, and DS fell asleep. So all in all, it was a successful show.

When we got outside to the daylight, DS woke back up. We had an ADR coming up in about 45 minutes, but we really didn’t have anything else that we just felt we had to do so we headed on into Italy to see if we could check in early. Despite our early arrival at Via Napoli, we were seated within about 5 minutes.

Our server came by to take our order, and we couldn’t even hear him. If you’ve never been to Via Napoli, it is a loud restaurant. It is a big room, with lots of people and noise just echos. Our server was soft spoken with a heavy accent, and it just made it very difficult to understand anything he said to us.

We ended up ordering a kids cheese pizza for DS and a mezzo metro pepperoni for the rest of us to share.

Yes. I realize that is probably too much pizza for 4 ½ people to eat.

But I was more than ready to pick up the slack for anybody else.

That is so NOT too much pizza for 4.5 people at my house. Just wait!

Our kids were a little bit over the edge at this point. DD never napped at all, and she needed one. DS’s short nap in American Adventure had turned him grumpy, so we were glad that our food was out quickly.

On a normal day, DS won’t eat pizza with pepperoni or anything on it. DD will. Which is why we just ordered him a kids cheese pizza and figured she’d eat a piece of our pepperoni.

When he got our food, DS was mad. He didn’t want a pizza with the red sauce on it. He doesn’t like red sauce.

He only likes it on every other slice of pizza he’s ever had… but whatever.

He was just being grumpy and refusing to eat. DD on the other hand, decided that she didn’t want pizza with pepperoni on it today.

We ended up taking DS’s pizza and gave it to her. She ended up downing the whole thing. Then DS started to get mad because he didn’t have anything to eat. So we gave him a slice of pepperoni. Complete with his dreaded red sauce.

He ate every bite and wanted more.

Seriously… I love our kids, but they can drive me nuts sometimes.

I lost count of how much pizza I ate. Everybody was winding down, and there was still pizza on the tray. I had to take a couple of minutes to make room, but by the time I finished, there was nothing but crumbs.

We enjoyed our meal, as always. The pizza was delicious, and Via Napoli is still on our list of must do’s when we go back.

Oh man, I feel your pain, I am reliving the E's childhood here!

We left the park and we were back at AoA before 8 pm. We decided that we’d take the kids swimming, but DW and MiL wanted to go check to see if purchases they’d made for resort delivery had made it there yet. DS had Donald and Goofy decorations on his Magic Band that my parents had brought him from their September trip. When we were leaving EPCOT, he’d noticed that he lost Donald and was pretty upset about it. DW was also able to find a replacement while she was at the gift shop.

While they were gone, I got the kids ready to go to the pool. When DW returned, we headed out and decided to go check out the Nemo pool. We got in the water and holy crap!

It. Was. Cold!!!!!

I assume that it must just be that the larger volume of water makes it harder to heat, but wow. I told DW that the Cars pool was nowhere near this cold the other night. And the air temperature was much colder the evening I took DS swimming. We decided to bail on Nemo and grabbed our towels and headed for the Cozy Cone. Once we were in the water there it was sweet relief. It was considerably warmer than the Nemo pool.

FiL came down and sat by the pool while we swam. He said MiL was sore and tired so she went to bed right after she got back to the room.

We swam for maybe 15 or 20 minutes when DD started to get cold. I took her in for a warm bath while DW stayed out with DS for a while longer.

It turned out to be a nice day for us. We got to sleep in a bit, we didn’t run ourselves ragged, and we were in bed in time to hear the fireworks from Illuminations.

But as someone who likes to hit the parks rope drop to park close and maximize every minute of Disney available to me…

There’s just something unsettling about laying in bed and hearing fireworks.

It just feels like I failed.

Not a fail, just a new normal. Hard to transition though. Impressed you went and found a warmer pool. I'd have bailed entirely unless there was a hot tub nearby!

We woke up bright and early on Thursday morning, just as planned. Even DW was getting up and moving. At least not as far behind schedule as most days.

We had an 8:00 ADR at Hollywood & Vine. Our plan was to be leaving the resort at 7:00 to get there early. I felt like that was leaving plenty of wiggle room for us.

We were all ready to go. I think it was 7:15 or so, but still plenty of time to get to DHS and get checked in for our ADR. We were heading out the door when it finally dawned on me that this morning was kind of odd. MiL and FiL are usually ready before DW and come over to our room while we’re waiting for her to get read to go. They hadn’t made it to our room yet.

We went and knocked on their door. And knocked some more. FiL came to the door and said that MiL thought we were leaving at 8. He said he thought we were leaving at 7 and the ADR was 8, but she seemed pretty sure of it so he just went along with it. She had just woke up so FiL said to just go on without them. DW told him to take the bus to DHS and meet us there.

We got to DHS at about 7:50. We drove into the parking lot and there was nobody out directing you where to park. They had cones and signs up though, so my options were limited unless I wanted to take out cones. I followed the signs and drove until I found a row that wasn’t blocked by cones. As it turned out, it was in CM parking. I knew I shouldn’t park there, but we were running late, and I literally followed the signs they had posted. So if they didn’t like it, that’s their own fault. I was glad to have a short walk anyway.

I just hoped our vehicle would still be there at the end of the day.

DW had been texting back and forth with MiL and as we were pulling into the parking lot, she got a text that they were at the bus stop waiting for a bus.

DW wanted to wait for them, so we went to the CM checking everyone in. He said we could wait for them, and there would be no penalty. But we weren’t getting checked in or stepping foot through the gate until they got there.

Great.

We did the walk of shame back from the front of the ADR line and found a vacant ticket booth to lean against while we waited.

More texts were exchanged and they were still waiting for the bus.

Then the bus was there, but they couldn’t get on yet.

Finally on the bus.

Then they were on the bus, sitting at the stoplight waiting to leave AoA.

Still sitting at the stoplight…

Still sitting at the stoplight…

By this time, it’s already 8:10. We’re 10 minutes late for our pre-RD ADR and the park opens in less than an hour. With the shows we wanted to see our plans are absolutely jam packed for the day. I was pacing, getting stressed and just starting to get downright ticked off.

The bus finally got there. I don’t even know what time. I think I’d given up looking at the clock because it was just making me mad. We saw them get off the bus and instead of following the crowd going to the right, they turned and went left.

We were trying to wave and yell at them, but they didn’t hear us. They were on a mission.

Power walking the wrong direction.

DW finally got MiL to answer her phone and got them turned around.

When we were walking into the park, we got the whole bus story. They were waiting at the bus stop with a family who had an 8:15 ADR for H&V. They told MiL and FiL that they had been waiting at the bus stop since 7 am. The first bus never even got there until almost 8. Then the bus wasn’t close enough to the curb or something, so the bus driver had to wiggle the bus back and forth to reposition it before they were allowed to get on.

After they were on, they sat at the stop light to exit AoA for what FiL said was about 15 minutes. He said the bus driver didn’t look like he pulled up far enough to trigger the light to change. He said a car actually passed the bus and as soon as the car got in front of the bus the light changed so they could go.

Sounds like the bus driver might have needed some driver education.

I needed a drink.

Anyway, they were finally there. We headed over to the early entry line and the CM remembered us and got us checked in quickly. We headed into the park, and thankfully only waited a minute or 2 before we were called into the restaurant.

BRUTAL start! But the kids sure looked happy, saw their favorites and the food was decent. At the end of the day the pro's outweigh the stressfull start.

It was about 9:30 when we finally got out of H&V. I’d looked at the app in H&V while I was waiting on DW and it said the wait for RnRC was already 45 minutes. I didn’t think it was likely that long already. TSMM wasn’t even showing that long of a wait yet. I was going to check it out and see.

When we walked around the corner into the courtyard in front of RnRC, the display above the Standby line said 60 minutes…

and then changed to 100 minutes.

I have no idea if that was right or not. I’m assuming not. The switchbacks outside were all full, but I still don’t see how it could have been that long already. Either way, it was going to be a long line and we just didn’t have time to wait. The Standby line was too long, the Single Rider line was closed and we really needed to keep to a pretty strict schedule to see all the shows we wanted to see.

RnRC is my absolute favorite ride at Disney World. We had a jam packed day planned, and at this point, I didn’t see how we’d have any time to work it in later.

I have to say, in Feb, the RRC lines were BRUTAL and times horrible, pretty constantly. Even single rider was a major challenge, I got on it once I think the whole trip and was thwarted quite a bit. It does open back up but you have to be willing to swing by there a lot to catch it just right.

My mood went from slightly grumpy, to “don’t even talk to me, look at me, or breathe the air in my general vicinity.”

I really don't blame you at all!

We woke up early on Friday morning. It was our last morning and we had to finish packing and haul all of our things out to our vehicle. I noticed that they must not leave a bill at the door anymore like they used to? Anyway, since I hadn’t stopped by the desk to check our balance all week, I wanted to get a print out to verify our purchases and make sure everything was good. I took the first load out and made the detour to the lobby on the way back to take care of that matter.

It wasn’t long and we had everyone all packed up and got all of the luggage back into the Suburban. There were no pictures of the packing job this time. We had to rearrange things so we could get the stroller out when we arrived at the parks and that meant closing the hatch as quick as possible while things were still in motion and finding a place to settle.

The park opened at 8:00 am, but I figured we’d get there around 9 or so. Even with all the packing, we were somewhat ahead of schedule. We got parked by around 8:15.

I went to the back and opened the hatch to get the stroller out.

We spent the next 10 minutes picking bags up off of the asphalt and re-loading them.

UGH!

We finished riding just in time to make it for the first show of the morning at Monsters Inc. We were waiting in line and DS had me submit a joke for him.

Why does a hummingbird hum?

Because it doesn’t know the words.

Anyway, he was thrilled when they used his joke in the show. The kids really had a blast with this one. DD even picked up a joke that somebody else turned in. She remembered this joke and went through a phase where it was so funny she had to tell it over, and over, and over, and over again.

How do you make a tissue dance?

You put a little boogie in it.

Anyway, safe to say we all had a good time at the Laugh Floor.

Love the jokes!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe how much you got done this day, especially in comparison to many of the others. You really had quite a productive day all around.

We headed back over to 7DMT and everyone had already exited and they were waiting for us. We made the hand off. FiL and DD headed back to the Teacups, while DS and I headed into 7DMT for another fun ride.

MK_MINETRAIN_7128861469.jpeg
And I actually remembered to do something for the camera for once.

But this was only the second time I rode.

I remembered where the cameras were, but I forgot which side of the track they were on.

Which actually probably makes it funnier than it would have been otherwise.

MK_MINETRAIN_7128861491.jpeg

That is a RIOT! Frameable!

I was dying at your description of the Anna/Elsa Dress Nascar pit stop tire change. Poor thing and good for her for ruining a few pictures! I am glad it was good character interactions all around.

You know those big pillars in the middle of the walkway as you walk underneath the covered part?

There was a lady riding one of the Disney ECV's. She was looking at the pictures too. She clearly didn't see the column right in front of her.

She nailed it. Head on. Square contact. I’m talking she went from 4 mph (however fast they go) to 0 in the blink of an eye.

I’m bad.

It was all I could do to keep myself from laughing out loud.

It was a pretty big impact, but she seemed to be ok. I think they only thing she hurt was her pride.

It may be one of those “you had to be there” type of stories, but it was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen and heard. It was one of the Disney Issued ECV’s and the impact was impressive enough from a visual standpoint, but the sound that went along with it… it sounded like something bigger than a scooter hit something bigger than a building.

I am really impressed that you held it together! Poor thing though (and I hope she had insurance). The last night is always so sad, nice that it ended with a special meal even if poor Mickey did get whacked upside the nose!

I’d ordinarily stop right here and then do a summary post, but I’m kind of excited about getting to our Disneyland trip. I think my summary post at the end will be more of a comparison of our likes/dislikes among the 2 parks.

But for our Disney World trip, things turned out very well. For MiL and FiL having never been, I think they both really enjoyed it and managed to have a good time. I’ve not heard any complaints and I’ve heard FiL telling people about a few of the things we did or saw there. So quite frankly, I feel like the trip was a huge success.

The one thing that I felt down about on this trip is that I was just exhausted. Partly because I just don’t think I recovered from the all night drive quite as quickly as I have in years past. But it really just felt like we were moving in quicksand all week long. It was hard to get anywhere, and it seemed like we were constantly running against a clock. I don’t know how much of it was due to the fact that I was trying to corral 6 people and get us from place to place, and how much of it was due to the fact that we had to plan so many details in the way of ADR’s and FP+. We just never ended up having as much downtime as we had planned earlier in the process. And I know part if this is due to the short hours you find in December. I mean, if you take a couple of hours for a break, and figure an hour for lunch and dinner, you’ve ate up most of the day.

6 people and....little kids. It is draining. You didn't add in the keeping kids entertained, dealing with moods and naps, picky eating, all of that. It adds up and wears you out. It is a new normal for a while but it DOES get better. I promise!

Looking forward to DL!

Catching back up again. I forgot about all your back issues! Not a fun way to go into the trip. Sounds like a couple of eventful flights.

Ok, the separation happened in the workshop area. If it were me, I'd make sure to either hold her or make sure we're right behind her when they have the kids come front and center.

In the next room, they hand out parts. At that point, anyone with a part will then be led into the storytelling room, and they'll sit down on the floor in the front row while the audience sits on benches in rows behind them.

I really didn't mind the separation between the wardrobe room and the story room because CM's were leading the kids single file into the room and placing them where they were needed for the performance and everyone filed into the room in an organized manner. When our separation occurred between the workshop and the wardrobe, they basically opened the gate and it was more of a mass stampede and a free for all with our kids somewhere near the front of it while we couldn't fight through the crowd to get through ourselves.

Moral of the story, the kids who get a part get some one on one attention from Belle and their parents will most likely enjoy the show more than other adults in the room. Just keep her close in the workshop and make sure she's in clear view of the CM in the wardrobe room so she can get a part!

I've been catching up on your trip report, really enjoying it by the way :) , but I wanted to comment on your experience at ETWB. We were there at the end of January with our daughter and family and they asked all the kids to go up in the front of the workshop, like they did when you were there. I can see why they do it that way but it does make it scary when the children are really young. I'm surprised that the CMs would let your daughter wander off to the side rather than keep them together until their parents arrived. :(

Our five year old granddaughter got to be Chip, too. It was a perfect role for her and one of the better ones. :thumbsup2 Our seven year old grandson volunteered to be in the show and he held a plate. In spite of not caring for princesses, he had a big smile on his face when he met Belle. :)

Oh gosh - I have so been there where they want exactly what you don't have ... or what some other kid has "But I want the pink cup!" .... "really? you've never wanted a pink cup before?!?!?!" And on an airplane in that situation every minute must have felt like an hour. Glad you survived though

Speaking of surviving - I can't imagine how freaked out I would be if someone jostled me awake on a plane only to wake up to someone passing out - I would totally think something majorly wrong was happening ... something that may or may not involve zombies

I also have been there where you are leaving the parking garage at an airport and your GPS can't get a signal and there is nothing you can do but but leave and hope you don't go in the entirely wrong way/into a bad neighborhood. I definitely don't have a good sense of direction so I probably would not have done as good a job as you did on the fly.

Your hotel looks nice, and very nice view!

Thanks for following along. And I've been working on my transition post this evening while I'm watching basketball...

I was trying to watch on the ship. Could not be rooting for Wisconsin and Michigan State more! I just love Izzo, and I picked Wisconsin to upset Kentucky!

It is really hard to deal with when you are stuck in an airplane seat. :(
Yeah... there's just really not a whole lot you can do. And it isn't like there's somewhere you can take her to let her just get over it.

I can completely understand this feeling, and totally approve. :thumbsup2
I thought you might.

I think your phone and my video camera are sharing some great stories in Heaven's sports bar right now.
Probably reconnecting with the phone that was in my pocket while I waded out into the Gulf of Mexico a few years ago.

Seriously, I'm hard on phones when on vacation.

Ugh. Sounds like a pain to deal with that whole situation. Our big Christmas present was a replacement microwave for the one that crapped out on us. It's such a letdown. Yay...we're back to where we were.
Merry Christmas kids!!! Let's go make some popcorn!

Don't feel bad. I mean, that could happen to anyone.

:rotfl2::rotfl:
Yeah... thanks. Aren't you older than I am? :rolleyes1

And TSA confiscated your taser, didn't they?
Stupid laws.

They could have at least put laughing gas in those masks that drop from the ceiling and let you use it.
Not sure what would be better... using it on myself or on her?

Uh oh. This sounds an awful lot like someone else I know. And it was famous last words in his case.
Hmmm... who could you possibly be talking about??? :rolleyes1

Looks like a pretty sweet place.
It really was. We loved our room there. I don't know that I'd ever be able to afford to stay there out of pocket in a non-convention type of stay, but it was a great hotel and our room was phenomenal.

Lock the kids in the room and hit the town?:confused3
Why didn't I think of that???? :headache:

I can see where having a working furnace would be a bonus in your neck of the woods! But to have a $1200 hit at that time of the year is a bummer.
Well, the bill was quite a bit more than $1200. The one we went with was just $1200 cheaper than our initial quote. We did put in a new A/C also and upgraded our entire system since it was all about the same age, but we could have paid for a couple of big family vacations to WDW for what it cost us.

Good thing you dodged the sickness bullet, too bad about your back. Good thing it healed up by the time you left.
Yeah, thank goodness for good medicine. It really helped me get through the trip!

That's too bad your DD was being so finicky. And that's pretty freaky about the guy fainting right next to your seat!
It was certainly a flight I will never forget.

No matter how hard I try. :rotfl:

Good thing you made the flight in Phoenix. I've never changed planes there, is it a very big airport?
It is a pretty big airport. I've flown through there a few times. It is big, but easy to navigate. And it isn't quite as big as the larger hubs.

We were in the same terminal so it wasn't too bad, but the terminal there is set up kind of like a spider... you've got a central area and then legs branching out from the middle. We basically had to move from the end of one leg, to the middle of the terminal and to the next leg over. Not too bad but we didn't have much time to spare.

The hotel room looks nice enough. That's a very busy area down near Seaport village, and I'm pretty sure there was no place to park without a hefty parking fee.
Yeah, it really was a very nice area. We just decided to leave it parked in the hotel garage. Everything was close enough that we could get around.

I think I know what you did next! :rolleyes1
Yeah, I did kind of give some spoilers earlier, didn't I? :rotfl:

Omg, poor DD on the plane! Or should I say, poor you?! Lol. I'm sure it's such a weird experience for them on a flight sine they really can't go anywhere and are stuck in this huge airplane with a ton of people they don't know! At miles above the earth, of course.
Yeah, definitely an entirely out of the ordinary experience for them. I mean we woke them up at a ridiculous hour and dragged them through and airport and onto a plane. But really... why couldn't she just go to sleep? I know she was tired! :faint:

I probably would have peed my pants if someone grabbed my shoulder as I was sleeping and then proceeded to pass out onto the floor of the plane.. holy cow. It's great that there was a doctor right in front of you guys, though. That kind of stuff is so scary.
It was kind of freaky. I'm glad someone else was there with a presence of mind to do something because just waking up, I was trying to register all the emotions of being startled in my sleep and then I was trying to put everything together to figure out what was happening. It was just a very weird feeling.

Wow. No doubt you're overlooking Seaport Village -great view! San Diego is our "2nd Home" so glad to hear you visited ....it's a wonderful city.
It is a nice city. Expensive, but nice! :rotfl:

I've seen the movie, but I don't even remember that.
I had to Google it and watch a short video.

I guess it just didn't make enough of an impression.

Had to look that up too.
Definitely don't want to mention any German words.... :rolleyes1
Not a big Anchorman fan, huh? :rotfl:

The only problem with that... is there really are people who want to know if it's the original Caesar's Palace.

oy.
:rotfl: I never even considered that, but I'm sure that's right!

A phone? What's that?
A yes! A marvelous disappearing object?
I have never lost a phone... :rolleyes1

Oh, boy.
That's always an inexpensive proposition. :sad2:
Oh, they practically give those things away. :faint:

The problem with ads or people saying "Get it (or I got it) for the efficiency" can't do math.
I especially hear that with scooters and motorcycles.
I spent $5000 on this scooter/bike so I can save money on gas!

Do you have any idea how many years it'll take before you break even?

I get that you had to replace it, don't get me wrong.
Just venting a little.

Or a lot. Whichever.
::yes:: I'm right there with you. They've been pushing a new one for a while, but I asked one of the technicians one time off the record what he though. He said we'd never own another furnace as durable as the one we had in and he wouldn't touch it until we absolutely had to.

Now I have noticed we're using less gas and it actually heats the house better than the old one. So that part is nice. But we had to pay for it to get to that point. :faint:

Nice.
And it only took them three months to make it up to you.
Well, their customer service is right up there with a certain body shop... again, their technicians do great work (just not for us anymore), but their customer service was a joke.

 I love it!
Yeah... it was kind of funny. When he gave me his rock bottom can't be beat price and asked me what I thought, I couldn't even put a coherent statement together. I thought it looked pretty frickin' high. I just told him I intended to get other quotes and I'd decide what I wanted to do.

He apparently didn't want my business anyway if that's the best he could do when I told him I'd be getting other quotes. :sad2:

Weren't you nervous?
"I think the furnace installation was done right.... at least I hope so... I guess we'll find out when we get back."

I'd be a wreck!
Well, here's the deal. There wasn't going to be anyone in the house.

And we have insurance.

So if a furnace install is going to go sour, now's the time. :thumbsup2:rotfl:

Always fun.
Isn't it though? Seems like we've lived that week about 3 or 4 times this winter now.

I get that.
I really do.
So far, I've avoided getting sick this season. DW and both kids have had it multiple times. I usually get sick the day the kids finally get better, but this flu season I must have been the only person to get a flu shot that worked.

after is better.
after is always better.

I did the same thing.
Except I caught a cold and threw my back out afterwards.
You only got it half right.
Well, you know, I'm just working my way up to your level.

That's sad. What kind of a man are you?
Can't pick up a sock?
Do you want me to cut your meat for you too?

(Says the guy who threw his back out... reaching for a Kleenex.... no lie.)
:rotfl:

::yes:: Oh, I know that feeling.
You, me and Nebo should get together.
Between the three of us, we could make up two thirds of a whole person!
Well, that might be a stretch...

Huh. I get nothing like that.
I do go to physiotherapy though.

I think the result is identical.
It just takes a few days.
Well, I'm glad it worked. But I can't complain about taking a few pills and feeling like superman within a few days. I mean that is the first time I've ever been prescribed a steroid and now I totally get why Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire did it. :rotfl::rotfl2:

It really does help recovery time though, that is for sure.

Oh, boy. I know that feeling too.
I was okay with it. You?
Not bad at all. I'm about 6'3" 240lbs and by the time I fold myself into one of those seats, I'm usually uncomfortable anyway. But it really didn't bother me as much as I expected.

Who the heck makes up these ungodly departure times?
I don't know... but our travel agent found this flight and it was less than half the cost of the next cheapest. I can sacrifice some sleep for that!

Granted... I was getting the flights and San Diego hotel covered for the conference I was attending. But it is for Farm Bureau, not for work. I'm a county president, and our county has money set aside to send board members and officers to the national convention each year. But it only pays up to $750 per person... in this case DW and I. We essentially managed to get flights cheap enough that we covered our entire stay in San Diego and about 75% of the cost of all 4 of our plane tickets with that money. So I was willing to get up well before the sun.

Which you knew, of course, would be perfectly smooth sailing, right?

Flying, no. But sailing? Sure?
My expectations weren't high... I get frustrated enough flying by myself. I was dreading taking the kids along on the plane. As it turned out, my fear was justified.

:lmao:
Give her what she wants man!
:furious:

Next time, just put her in with the checked bags.

No?
Well, we do have a dog crate...

 Well, of course!
The grass is always greener.
Isn't it though? :faint:

Holy cow!
Just a little startling!
Nice way to be jolted right out of sleep!
Yeah, that was a shock that I never need to relive.

Well, that's good.
I've been on a flight or two where they've asked if there was a doctor on board.
Never did see what the problem was, or even if a doctor showed up.
Hopefully that means it was nothing major.

Oh, boy.
And you probably thought that wasn't possible, right?

Amazing what a lack of sleep will do to... I was going to say a child, but really it could be anyone.
Yeah... by that point we were just ready to be off the plane and away from the airport.

Aww. Poor thing.
Did you see that thing that went viral not too long ago about the parents who handed out goody bags to surrounding passengers?
It had candy and earplugs in it I think?

And then I read an article saying that shouldn't be necessary because it's a baby.
We were all there at some point and it's just part of life so accept it.

It is what it is.
I was on a flight from Minneapolis to Winnipeg (about an hour and a half I think)
and this little baby screamed the whole time.
I just felt sorry for the parents.
It's tough because you a) are embarrassed because you think the other passengers hate you and b) you just want to do something, anything to make your child feel better.

I don't envy you one bit my friend.

Just remember that eventually little girls grow up.
and then a whole other set of problems come in!!!
Yeah. I hated it. I just wanted her to calm down and preferably just go to sleep. But I really felt bad about it.

No! This almost never happens!

:rolleyes1
I know... first time I've ever experienced it.

Yeah. For the trunk. Of course.
"Well, there's this minivan... or SUV... or large boring car.... or... what's this? A Charger? I could be like I was in the Daytona 500!!!!!"
No, if I wanted speed I'd have gotten something else. The underpowered new 4 door Charger family cars don't even deserved to be compared to the old muscle car versions.:rotfl:

I've only seldom seen a compass.
I think the opposite. The majority of new cars don't have compasses.
Hmmm... well, pretty much all the vehicles I ever drive have them. But must of them are GM products. DW and I each have Chevy's and they have a compass. My parents' vehicles are GM and they have them, my uncle's Dodge truck has one, and DW's parents' Dodge truck and Chrysler mini van have them.

Maybe it is just a car thing. I mean we have no cars in our family. It is pretty much exclusively pick up trucks and suv's.

I'm the same way.
It did help that I looked at it on a map to know where the hotel was in relation to the airport. And the airport is close enough to the water and downtown that it really gives you some good visual points to use for navigation there.

Nice view! At least I think it is, from what I can see in your pictures.
It was. I really liked the view and the room.

NAP!!!

Thanks for the update! :goodvibes
That probably would have been a good idea... :rolleyes1

I don't remember if I knew about the furnance. That's a huge chunk of money...I know. We had to get a new furnance and central air at the same time last year (and a hot water tank just six months before that).

I'm exhausted just reading about the 3:15 departure, DD not being happy on the plane with her snack choices or movie choices and then a man literally passing out at your feet. What a start to the trip.

I'm glad you finally got the GPS up and running and were able to find the hotel. It looks like an awesome view.

:sad2::rotfl:
:headache: Lovely! at least it wasn't right as your trip was starting.
True. I was glad that we had time to get past all of that stuff.

Well that is something at least...
Well, temporary relief.

Ah the wonderful nature of 2 yr olds when their sleep pattern has been disrupted.
No, just the wonderful nature of 2 year olds. Sleep or lack thereof may or may not play a factor. :rotfl:

:littleangel:Your poor poor DW!
::yes::

It wasn't the best way to wake up. And I clearly would not be getting any more sleep on the plane.

This is when DH and I would be breaking out the benadryl!:rotfl:
I don't think we remembered to bring any.

Of coarse because they always find new ways to keep you on your toes.
It can never be simple. :sad2:

After the rough flights you just delt with I can imagine that this was particularly frustrating.
::yes:: Thankfully I could see enough of the geography around me to be able to at leas head the right general direction.

Love all the pics from Chef Mickey’s! It sounds like you all had a great time - perfect way to end the trip.
Thanks! It was a great evening and really a good way to wind things down and say goodbye.

What a great idea to do a quick tour of the resort Christmas decorations.
DW and I always enjoy doing that, so I'm glad it worked out that we had a little time to kill after dinner.

Wow! Your beach pictures are amazing!
Thanks. I didn't take a single one of them, but thanks.

I really appreciated the summary of your thoughts about FP+. I have a feeling I will feel the same way when we finally try it this summer. I love the flexibility and freedom we have at DLR, and adding the scheduled FP to WDW just emphasizes the lack of those things there that much more. I know we will still love WDW and have a great time, but I will be surprised if I come back in love with FP+.
Yeah, this is really how I felt about it. I did like not having to do the FP run first thing upon entering the park in the morning. And one thing I noticed at DL, was that walking across the park to grab FP for Space isn't as convenient as doing it from my phone or a central kiosk. I really wish they could somehow blend the 2 systems in a more user friendly system that still lets you be somewhat spontaneous. I guess that's asking too much though.

Dang! That was a VERY eventful flight to California!
It sure was. And it couldn't have ended soon enough. :faint:

Glad you made it safely to San Diego - the view from your hotel room is great! I'm so excited to hear all about your time in California. :woohoo:
Thanks! We loved the view we had. Both during the day and at night. We really loved our room and the hotel.

So I'm all caught up, finally! Actually I've been caught up but I haven't been replying; between trying to get DD to sleep in her own bed, work and home repairs I haven't had a lot of time. Parenthood is very busy.
Isn't it though? :faint:

Chef Mickey's looks like a ton of fun with the kiddos. And I like that you guys kept it in your plans even if it wasn't in its traditional time slot for you guys. I bet Mickey was shocked when DD smacked him! I wonder how many times characters are struck by small children...
Oh, the trauma that a character must go through. Really, they're awesome with the kids. I've got nothing but respect for them dealing with everything they must have to deal with on a daily basis.

I like the mini recap on WDW. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on FP+ I think time of year has a HUGE impact on how well it works. I read today that they're testing a forth FP...? Interested to see how this thing will end up working by the time we go in September.
Yeah. I think FP+ is likely better the less crowded it is. You'll have more flexibility to change things. But I can imagine that if you're using it on a hugely crowded day, you really won't be able to change anything around.

Glad you've managed to miss the flu! Sis is in NYC and she says it's been brutal. Even here in Florida we had one of the worst flu season in a decade. We managed to miss it; I might have flipped out if my infant child managed to get the flu.
It has been really bad here too. I've got 2 nephews... one about 4 months old, the other just turned 1... well today actually. And both of them got to spend some time in the hospital this winter. It has really been a brutal flu season. My understanding from a friend who is an ER nurse is that there have been 2 strains of flu going around. We had the first one back in January... right before our trip. And the second one gained some momentum back in February. Our kids caught both. DW caught the second. I've so far managed to avoid it somehow.

The furnace. I can not tell you how glad I am to not have to deal with a furnace. We have the opposite trouble; when the central air stops working durning a South Florida summer there are nothing but happy snow men in this city, if you know what I'm saying.
:rotfl2: It's always something. No matter where you live. But it wasn't something I wanted to do. We really wanted to renovate our kitchen this year, but that will be delayed now since that money paid for a new furnace and A/C. Since our A/C was as old as the furnace we decided to just upgrade the whole system while we were doing it. They cut us a little break doing it that way.

So this is my future? Babies going crazy at 30,000 feet? The joy! I always felt so bad for the parents of upset children on planes, and now that I am a parent I'm completely paranoid that my child will be the one screaming. My heart goes out to you and DW.
Oh, no! Not at all. I'm sure you'll have no problems at all. Not all kids hate planes. :rolleyes1

Good luck.

I am the same way with driving in new places; once I get it I've got it, but it doesn't happen right away. I've never been to California, but I have heard that driving is a pain out there.
It is a heck of an experience. Apparently it is legal to ride motorcycles between lanes to pass cars too. :confused3

Glad the hotel was nice! I'm sure you guys were glad to get settled in after your lovely flight out west. Can't wait to see how you started your convention day!
It was an awesome hotel. I was really happy with just about all aspects of it. Except that there really wasn't anywhere to get a quick and cheap breakfast.

Oh my gosh! Some people lose all of their good judgement when at WDW, I guess. :confused3 Poor girl - no wonder she was trying to mess up the pictures after being used like a mannequin. :sad2:
It seemed a little bit wrong, but she took it all in stride. And the look on her face when she was messing with her mom was just priceless.

Those photos are just adorable! :lovestruc
Thanks!
:lmao: Wow, that must have been quite the crazy thing to see. :rotfl2:
Oh, it was! I had to start power walking away from there so I could laugh without it being blatantly obvious.

I thought you were going to say it rolled down so far that it stayed with the stage and you rotated away from it. Glad it wasn't so bad. :goodvibes
Yeah, that might have been a meltdown in the works if that had happened. Thankfully it only went a few rows.
Those little grins are just adorable! It's like they're sharing a secret or something.
I hadn't thought about it that way, but you're right!

:lmao: That's awesome. At least Mickey probably doesn't have a terribly sensitive nose. ::yes::
Poor guy!

Hey, I think this is about ME! :rotfl:
Oh, you're far from the only one who does it. But yeah, it's probably about you. :rotfl2:

Sorry your flight was so rough. Maybe she was extra difficult because of the lack of sleep before the flight - I know I would be if I got up at that hour. :rotfl2: Glad she finally passed out!
Yeah. I think it was worth it for the cost of the flights though. I mean it wasn't like she was just an angel coming home so I'm not sure more sleep would have made a huge difference.

:scared1: That would be really scary! Glad everything was okay and a doctor was there to help.
::yes::

:faint: What a morning! So funny to think about all that happening and most of the day still in front of you.
Yeah. The magic of gaining 3 hours across time zones. :thumbsup2

Yeah, I mean I wasn't offended by it. But I surely wouldn't want to change a little girl that age in front of total strangers. It just stuck out as a little bit odd to me.

Nice photos from Chef Mickey's.
Thanks! The kids loved it there.

Don't feel too bad about skipping the Poly. There's still so much construction going on that it would have been a distraction, new lobby or not.
Yeah, I wasn't too bothered by missing it. I'd have liked to have seen the new lobby, but that would be about the only thing worth seeing/doing there at that point in time.

Yikes, not the smoothest flights ever. You guys could just not win with your DD that morning. But sometimes, I feel like kids are that way intentionally. They aren't in the best moods and they know what snacks and movies you don't have, and they want them simply because they aren't available.
The joys of toddlers.
::yes:: Well said.

She was probably about 6 or 7... but yeah, this is basically my point. I guess to me, if they're old enough to be out of diapers, they're probably old enough that they don't need to be stripping down in public. :confused3

Yay, you started the California trip!
Kind of. One of these days I'll even get to the good stuff.

Wow, you sure had some pre-trip turmoil.
::yes:: It was definitely an action packed month between trips.

At least you could look forward to some relaxing peace and quiet on the plane.
I know better than that!
YIKES!!! So scary about the man who collapsed next to you. :scared1:
::yes:: It was a flight we'll never forget.

Glad you arrived safely at your hotel, even without a compass. A Dodge Charger is cool! What color? :car:
Black

Time to get some lunch, I think! and is it warm enough for a swim?
Lunch was the priority. It had been several hours since we had a pretty meager breakfast.

You really feel that way? I never really noticed. :confused3
It's good stuff!

Great picture!!! So immmm... how was the food?
Well, it was Chef Mickeys...

I've got no complaints about the food, but we all know the food isn't why we were there.

Oh no? I wonder why?
Oh, you know... :rolleyes1

Sounds legit. Better than a parrot or a pig.
A companion parrot is only legit if you have an eye patch and a peg leg.

Humm.... interesting observation.
He's the master of the understated response.

I could wake up to that view everyday.
Not bad at all!

Haven't you learned if you can, avoid i95 at all costs?
Um no... I never drive on it. but now I know!

This means you are getting old.
But no matter how old I get, I'll never catch you. :rolleyes1

Did he look like this?
No, but that would have made the flight so much better!!!!

I know this all too well.
I can't even figure out how we hauled all the crap from the airport.

You telling us you didn't bring your sun dial with you?
Can't bring everything!
