What are you reading now? (Book suggestion thread)

I
I have the first book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon ready to be re-read for the umpteenth time. Its being made into a Starz mini series right now so I want to brush up on it. Its my favourite book EVER and I have read a lot :worship:

I've been watching Outlander at the moment and have been enjoying it, need to find myself the books to read next.

The last book I read was Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, really enjoyed it with lots of twists and turns. Planning to read another of hers next.

Currently reading 'The Stand' by Stephen King; its absolutely epic, and could be used as a doorstop, but so far it's been worth it!

Just had an email to say I've been lucky and have won a copy of Kate Mosse's new book, The Taxidermist's Daughter. Can't wait for it to arrive, Kate Mosse is my favourite author.

I started reading one of the Grantchester Chronicle books during the summer. I have been having terrible trouble following the plot. Turns out it is a book of short stories. :rotfl:

Just reading Lynda Bellingham "There's something Im dying to tell you" Im only half way though and of course whilst terribly sad and close to home with me as mum is a colon cancer survivor, it is also filled with humor, and enormous courage.:cloud9:

It is fantastic! Please do let me know what you think of it! The world needs more Outlander fans ;)

Just finished it this morning and LOVED it! Was about to buy the second book for my kindle but my DD wants to read it too so I'm going to have to order the book. Can't wait to see the mini series - I know they're never as good as the book but usually still very enjoyable. It has been confirmed it will be shown in 2015 in the UK (why oh why are we always the last to see everything!) but not which channel yet - just have to hope it's not Sky Atlantic as we don't get that channel.

Bump

Anyone reading anything interesting at the moment?
Ive just finished the 5th book in Jeffrey Archers Clifton Chronicles which as usual ended on a cliff hanger (but not as heart stopping as at the end of number 4). Another 12 months to wait for the next one.

Im reading The Girl On The Train at the moment, so far so good!:coffee:

Gonna re-read all of the books by the brilliant late Sir Terry Pratchett , his dry humour always made me laugh out loud and he was a genius at reading people and creating believable characters in his tales and was doing the whole wizards school thing long before the rest. His great insights into life really make you think about those around you too. Neil Gaiman's books are brilliant too you can't go wrong with any books by these authors. Phil Rickman books are a favourite of mine when I need a change of pace.

Literally just finished the last page. I really enjoyed it. Dark and twisted like Gillian flynn's books.

I loved all of hers - gone girl, sharp objects, and dark places. I also enjoyed Jodi picoult's storyteller and lone wolf. Shanghai girls was also a great read this year :-)

Since I last posted on here I've re-read Maeve Binchy's Echoes, Firefly Summer, Circle of Friends, The Glass Lake and Evening Class (I'm re-reading all her novels and enjoying them just as much as I did first time round) and have read the second and third books in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager. Loved them even more than the first one and am just debating whether to start the fourth book now or save it for my holiday (it's on my kindle) and tackle the pile of 'real' books that are starting to build up in my bedroom (we do swapsies at work). I'm also watching the Starz series of Outlander on Amazon and loving it - obviously it's not a patch on the books but even DH has got hooked on it!

I've just finished "A Year of Living Danishly" by Helen Russell. A fairly interesting report of an English woman moving to live in Denmark. I was hoping for more of a narrative of her life but she wrote it from the angle of "Why was Denmark voted the happiest country in the world?" and it became more of a newspaper report. Good if you like reading facts but not so much if you were expecting it to be a bit more personal.

Ive just today started reading Still Alice by Lisa Genova, I really want to read it before I see the film.

Loved the book Still Alice, really good, looking forward to seeing the film now.

I have now decided to go through all my old books on the book case and either read them for the first time or re read them, and then donate them to charity. So I closed my eyes and pulled one out and I have ended up with a horror called Lets Go Play At The Adams! Will give it a go lol.

I have not done much reading recently as I have been so busy with writing my trip report. However, I got the second edition of The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World yesterday and could not resist getting stuck in. This is an amazing read.

Oh Lets go play at the Adams, was quite a grim read tbh! Loosly based on a true story, its not for the faint hearted.

Not sure what the next book will be yet!

Thought I'd resurrect this thread ..... since last posting I've read Maeve Binchy's Tara Road, Scarlet Feather, Quentins, Nights of Rain and Stars, Whitethorn Woods, Heart and Soul, Minding Frankie and A Week in Winter - now re-read all her novels.

Also discovered Pamela Hartshorne, thanks to my DD for buying these books for last Christmas - Time's Echo, The Memory of Midnight and The Edge of Dark - all time slip novels set in York.

I'm currently reading Kate Morton's The Secret Keeper and can't put it down!
