Disney Y.E.S. Program

My kids did How Things Move a few years ago (5-8 age group) and we rode Winnie the Pooh, the PeopleMover, and Barnstormer (twice). I can't remember doing any other rides, certainly not Space Mtn (I'm assuming because of the age group). Also, you did not have to ride the attraction. A few families in our group sat out and it was no issue.

A good portion of the class was spent in Cosmic Rays where the kids designed rides on paper and worked together to build things with blocks or tubes.
Thank you very much for your info! I'm leaning towards that class for him as I think the Properties of Motion Physics Lab 101 goes on SM. We all love SM but he just does not like it!

Looking for input from anyone who has taken a class recently... Did your class end on time or go late?

Trying to figure out the best plan for FP+. We are not planning to stay in the park long after the classes so I would like to schedule them as early as possible, but don't want to schedule one that ends within 20 minutes of the class and then miss it because the class went over.

We did a class in October so fairly recent. It definitely ended on time if not a little early. My dd (5) loved the class and I did too. She took the "Synergy in Science" class. It was nice doing something different as we've been to Disney several times in the past four years. We will definitely be doing another class the next time we go to DW.

Has anyone been able to call and get 10 day tickets with the program lately? Also, our dates are in November. Do they ever have classes during that time frame? My kids would love these classes, but in all our years of going, we've never been able to make the timing work!

I'm not sure about the 10 day tickets. I don't recall seeing individual enrollment classes in November before, but the Carolina Homeschool organization has YES events scheduled in November that might work for you. Their ticket discount is very good and they have a nice variety of classes to choose from.

Thanks, I guess I'll keep checking back! The carolina one is mid november and we're going 11/1-14. :( Wonder if I could get my own homeschool group together?? ;)

Looking to enroll my 4 kids in the individual education series in August. I only see a max ticket of 8 days. Does anyone know if you can upgrade and add days or buy a longer ticket. I would like at least 10 days. Thank you in advance!

These tickets are not regular tickets, so they cannot be upgraded. That's why it's important to make sure you get the correct number of days, park hopping, etc when you initially order them.

I believe 8 days is the maximum.

One suggestion for you would be to either have "park free days" or get the water park option. We have always done 10 day tickets, so I was concerned about being limited to 8 days but it worked out well for us. Our schedule wound up being:
Arrival day- dinner at Ohana
4 full park days
Weekend enjoying the resort/DTD (kids did pirate adventure, watched outdoor movies, etc)
4 full park days
Departure day- sleep in

If you got the water park option you could spend your free days there.

8 days is the maximum and you can't upgrade YES tickets. Get the water park feature so you can spend some time there and playing mini-golf or Disney Quest.

Can anyone tell me about Synergy in Science and Everyday Chemistry programs? I will have two in each program because of ages.

We did them back in 2013. Hubby took the little guy to SiS and I took older 2 to EC.
All of our kids enjoyed the programs.
For EC we got to make a type of goop and went on Ellens Energy ride and MS.
SiS kids worked together on projects building things from models and then on a big puzzle on the ground at the end.

Fall student seminar date is going to be October 8th 2015 at Animal Kingdom, for anyone else that was waiting for the info like I was!

I have a couple of questions. I apologize if they have come up before.

I am taking my siblings to Disney this summer. We plan on sending my adult brother with one group of kids and my adult sister with the other group as chaperones. Will they be allowed to be the chaperones since they are not parents? My parents can not go.

My sister will be two weeks from turning 9. Would it be possible to say she is 9 so she can take a class with her sister? Do they check ids at all? It seems crazy that they would deny her entry based on a few days.

The info states:
All children 14 and under must have a responsible adult accompany them for the duration of the program. Children 15 and older MUST have a parent/guardian accompany them to the start of the program and sign a waiver in case of emergency. The parent/guardian must also be present at the park where the program is being held and be reachable in case of an emergency.

They use the terms parent/guardian/responsible adult interchangeably, so I am fairly certain that the adult chaperone is considered their "guardian" during the trip and doesn't need to be the parent. I believe others have taken grandchildren/nieces/nephews, so I can't see where an adult sibling chaperone would be any different.

As far as the age, you will just have to use your own discretion on that one. They do not verify ages (my kids have never brought any form of identification on a vacation), so if you choose to say she is 9 there should not be any issue. That said, people have reported that they are very strict about ages, so if you truthfully reveal her age in the hopes that they will allow her to participate in the class (since she's only a few days shy of the cutoff) you will likely be denied.

Can someone tell me more about the student seminar? It falls during our trip this year. We've done a couple of YES classes in the past but never the seminar. The ticket savings was good enough that I went ahead and signed up even though the day of it doesn't work great with our usual plans. We usually do AK on Tuesday and will now have to move it to Thursday.

I signed all four of us up just in case, but I'm not sure if DS or DH will be interested in it. Will it be a problem if DD and I go without them and they just meet us later to do AK? It said seating was limited and if they weren't signed up they wouldn't be admitted and I figured my luck they would end up wanting to go with us.

When you register it ask you who will attend, there is 5 of us, but only my DH and oldest daughter sit in the presentation, ( I only check that it's going to be the 2 of them) it's never been an issue. I'm not sure what happens if you checked they would come, then they don't show up.

I'll chime in, as we've done this program (formally Homeschool Days) and had to remove an adult and student from our group...

If you list anyone in your group as attending, you are obligated to attend. If any part of your group cannot commit to attend, then you are required to call and have them removed asap, so it allows space for other families. Failure to show is subject to being banned from future participation.

The discounted tickets are based on attending. Last I checked, the terms stated that your tickets would e invalidated if you didnt attend.

Thanks for the replies, I know that DD and I will go but I wasn't sure if DS or DH would actually want to go or not. Its towards the end of our week and I don't know if DH is going to want to have to get up so early and go with us. And I'm not sure DS will sit though whatever the presentation is. I did check that they would attend but maybe I'll call and see what I should do. I figured it would be easier to take two people off then add two people on.
