Official trip report! We're here. Apr 12-24th

We are a week ahead of you. And we also are driving our Class C but from NJ. We pulled it from storage this past weekend. Oil changed, battery replaced, and tires balanced. Now she is ready to go. We did some light loading with basic camp stuff and removed junk we wont need to lighten the load. All other stuff will be loaded next week. We will arrive at the Fort on Friday 4/3, probably late in the evening. I also work nights sometimes and prefer to drive while my kids and husband sleep but this trip I will be driving this RV for the first time so we are planning on a 1600 departure Thursday and a drive also to Rocky Mountain KOA to sleep and plug in to charge everything up. Friday we just plan to truck through leaving around 8am and hopefully arriving at fort shortly after dinner 6-7pm. Question, we are thinking of the shooting east after Delaware Memorial Bridg/95S and taking 301 around Baltimore and DC to avoid the tunnels. Have you done this? The other option is to go west to 81,77 and then meet up with 95 but I didn't want the added time and hills going that route. Any thoughts are helpful. Thanks. Have a Magical and WARM trip!!!!

Hi! Please update us on how your trip goes.

I always cut west at the Tappanzee bridge to avoid NYC, Delaware, Baltimore and DC. I like the 81/77 route and that's exactly how we are going this time. If there were no traffic, 95 all the way would be quicker. But that's never the case and I find 81/77 more relaxing and probably faster most times. The hills can be tough but beautiful. I just take it slow and avoid over taxing the brakes. When I was in the Navy, I used to travel to/from VA by taking the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel which was OK in a car. I am hesitant to try it in the RV because of the occasional wind restriction for RVs and my luck being that it would close before I get there.

I can't wait to de-winterize but I'm holding off because of the low temps still. It's just weighing on my mind that something goes wrong and I won't find out until the last minute.

OMG!!! I never knew that closed that bridge to RV's!!!! We have taken it only once before with our Pop-up and it was fine. I guess Ill try an internet search before we leave the house to check weather. That would really suck!!! We are dewinterizing when we arrive at the fort too. Everything checks out OK so far, so fingers crossed. Now I'm really thinking about heading West instead or just driving around the tunnels using 695 I think.

Great- another person who enjoys our scenery! I'm very proud of our beautiful area (like I had a hand in creating it or something), but we do take it for granted. DD's photography hobby is getting us out to enjoy nature more often. Don't forget to wave to me as you change over from 81 to 77!

I do not flash green to the squirrels, they prefer brown or off tan items like unsalted peanuts, I try to look out for the little guys' health. I do however prefer Planters nuts. Occasionally I will throw in some Froot Loops as a sweet treat. Be careful when you get several of them together at once as they can get moody with one another.

As far as the drinks, yes, it is red label Coca Cola as Ed noted. My first drink of choice is sweet tea, preferably the homemade kind. However, when staying at the Fort I usually brink Red Diamond sweet tea as the water at Disney tastes terrible. Either that, or I have to bring my own water, but we usually use that for in the parks.

Good ole Chavis, or better known as "3rd and Chavy Wavy". Excellent minded defensive coordinator and someone that Texas A&M sorely needed.

This winter will be the end of me yet.

We are down to less than two weeks from departure. There has been quite a bit of thawing and now I am no longer concerned about being unable to leave due to the snow (even though we may get another 2-4" tomorrow :O ). Buuuutttttt.... the thaw has been so aggressive that our driveway (which is gravel) has become a real mud pit. Just driving over it with a regular car is making ruts at least 6" deep. The car just sinks into it. I am getting really worried that the RV will sink in too. My only hope is that the sheer weight of it and the dual rears will have enough traction to not slip. I plan to take it for a few mile shakedown before the trip in about a week so we will see but a concern is that if I manage to pull through the mud for that, I may not get it back in. All this just cements my plans to snow bird after retirement. This is ridiculous.

I remember in 2012 when I first bought my camper I did not have a gravel bed to park it on, so I just parked it in the yard. First pullout found it buried due to its weight. Had to hook the tractor to the truck to get it out. Destroyed the yard.

Hopefully it will dry out enough in 2 weeks to NOT be a problem. pixiedust:

Holy cow! Leaving one week from tomorrow!!!!

I've been scrambling like a mad man to get last minute jobs done now. Installed Crossfire's on my rear duals, lubed the chassis, checked everything fifty times. Long range forecast looks like it may not dip below freezing much next week so hopefully I can de-winterize and test out the water system early to mid week. Need to do a final detail cleaning of the cab area (I hate driving a vehicle with a dusty dashboard) and probably check everything another fifty times.

DW is getting anxious trying to finalize grocery lists and making sure we all have everything we need food and clothing wise for the whole trip. Where did the time go?

Getting down to the wire now! Took the RV out on a little trip to Camping World (about 40mi round trip) to get some stuff and make sure everything was in working order and top the gas tank off. No problems and it was nice to be behind the wheel again! Finally got to de-winterize and put some fresh water in the tank for toilet flushing on the road. Hitting Sam's club for some supplies tomorrow or Wed and then it's just a day away to departure! I can already see the Outpost and taste that Ohana's dinner on Sunday! My entire to-do list is checked off but yet I still worry that I missed something.

I also went ahead and booked a rental car for the week between the 15th and 22nd from the car care center. We use Disney transportation mostly and won't need it for much but maybe a grocery run or two but I got a free one day pass for the family from Sea World so we will take advantage of that. None of us has ever been to SW so I'm looking forward to it.

Today is the day! DW and I worked feverishly to get her all packed up. Kids wrapped up school and I am going to try to take a nap now. Plan is to roll out around 10pm tonight. Should be eating some Golden Corral in the morning and make the Rocky Mount KOA in the afternoon tomorrow. Sooooo excited I don't know if I will be able to sleep!

Let's hope we didn't forget anything! Pics to start rolling in on this report!

Have a safe trip. I'll be watching. Bama Ed

PS - I could never sleep the night before. I was too excited....

Tell me about it! I only managed to get 3 or 4 hours today because of the excitement. We are actually stepping off in a few minutes now. Everyone is wired so why not get a jump. Off we go. Wish us luck!

I'm lucky if I can sleep for the 2 days prior to leaving. Will be following along. Safe travels.

We are headed to the Fort, June 3rd thru the 10th! Can't wait to hear about your trip!
