Now that the US Dollar is expensive ...

We are probably going to change our booking from Riverside to All Star Sports because of the dollar. I calculated this out to be a total savings of over $1,000 for our trip. I was sad about this (we had a Royal room booked), however, we have never stayed at All Star Sports so that will be fun and we are still getting to go to Disney!

Well, after reading everyone's posts about how low the dollar might go .... I told my DH that we better just go to Riverside (we changed from the Royal Rooms) because it looks like it might be the last time we will be able to go because the dollar might drop even lower so we might not be able to afford a moderate again.

So thanks to everyone here, we will be back at our favourite resort in 20 days :worship:. You only live once!!!

If anyone knows the best place to exchange CAD to US instead of banks. Also wondering if in the US would it be better to exchange there. I planning to go there for 6 weeks this summer. Will probably keep our gifts buys at its lowest since the our dollar so low.

I like Global Currency Exchange. Better rates than CIBC, which I used to use because they have a couple US$ ATMs in our town. If you Google them, you can find a GCE office near you.
The exchange rate is really hurting our proposed 2017 trip, in that I feel like we have to do Value everything and really skimp on frills compare to our 2012 and 2013 Disney Land trips. I keep hoping that they will offer Canadians some specials!

Just back from a trip to Universal. I tried to use cash as much as I could (we converted quite a bit before we left) but some things simply had to go on the credit card. After fees and conversion I was getting 70 cents on $1. It was pretty awful and though I told myself many times I would simply find a way to make it work for future trips.. I just don't know if I can justify ANY trip in U.S. funds for the foreseeable future. I am feeling dh out for one more long weekend with these annual passes at Universal in October... but I don't even know if it's worth it. :(

I just paid for my trip in May and it cost me $400 more in US dollars. I got a pin code for 30% off mods and 20% Westjet flight so they really helped. I just have to stay on-site or not go. It's just part of my vacation to be immersed. I don't eat a lot and don't buy souvenirs (10th trip this year)

You don't need to justify that to us. :) We get it.

I was shocked at the rate today. Just put $200 towards my package and it cost me $257! EEEK. I guess I won't be spending as much this year. I love to Disney shop, but I can't this time. Our package was a bounceback with free dining, so we'll be saving that way, and with me not shopping as much I guess it will help. I hope I can hold off! I love to Disney shop and I have been known to spend $1500 on a trip. (It's a horrible addiction.)

Calling our travel agent first thing in the morning to pay our upcoming cruise in full. It's not due til mid July but I just can't wait that long, knowing the dollar might rally a *tiny* but will eventually just keep going lower.

I really wanted to do Universal, Discovery Cove, Seaworld, Aquatica this year with the family. When pricing things out, I realized that it is going to cost us at least an additional $1000 CAD more with the exchange. For a vacation that was already pushing my comfort zone $ wise, I think we may have to sit this year out or think of some suitable (and less expensive) alternatives. :sad1:

Paid our cruise in full today (was due July 9th). To the tune of $460 more with the exchange rate *sob*

I watch the rate everyday. It breaks my heart when I see the Canadian dollar go down. But my Disney addiction does not stop so neither will my planning to visit every year. The thought of not being able to go one year brings tears to my eyes.

I am sorry but I just think its funny how so many people are saying this is the last time we go to WDW and stuff because of the dollar.

The dollar goes up and down all the time yes it is pretty low right now but it has been even lower in the past. It will come back up maybe not tomorrow lol but it will. So you may not be able to go again next year but the year after may be different

We went in March and I got an Amazon.ca credit card before we went, it doesn't charge a conversion fee so helped a bit!

THIS will be as close as i will get to the states PERIOD for a very long time. Disney, who knows?? Doesn't help that currently we're up to our armpits in wedding preparations for our daughter and when that includes making the house "picture ready"

I must have missed those posts because I didn't see anyone saying that???

What I read are a lot of people saying the poor exchange rate has them rethinking some of their choices. We went away for 2 nights over Easter and our rate was 1.28. If people have a $4000 budget it doesn't magically turn into $5120 over night. It only makes good financial sense to make adjustments that reflect your budget and I don't get the mocking.

We are going in August and have the flights booked and paid for. We have booked a villa from owners direct and have to pay that in GB Pounds so not only am I watching the US Vs. CAD but also the CAD Vs. GBP!

Paid the deposit for the villa via PayPal but that has a 3% charge so am now wrestling with getting a bank draft drawn and mailing it as I think that might be a bit cheaper. Don't have to pay until beginning of June but am getting anxious as to how to save a few $$$.

Any suggestions welcome!

For anyone watching the dollar
The CAD gained a few cents over night and the bank rates have reflected that today.
I dont know how long it will last, but I have paid a chunk today to save a little anyway!

Thanks for the heads up. Just transferred some to my US account.
