Eggs-plaining the Egg-stravaganza -- The 2016 Hunt Is Over!!!

"Kristina --

I think your daughter (and you) will have a lot of fun with the Egg-stravaganza! Are you going to do the hunt in both parks, or just in DCA?"

Just DCA this time around. Disney got A LOT of our money in 2014 (nine days at WDW, two separate days at DL, one with a hotel the night before and the Fantasmic! dessert party) so we're just jumping over there for one day, one park this time around.

Great write up! I'm heading to the parks tomorrow for egg hunting with my niece! We were able to get complete set of the prize eggs last year, hopefully we will this year too!

I did not look at the first two posts because I want to see if I can find them on my own first, but some of the eggs are already out today! One CM in DCA pointed out that the Easter Bunny had already stopped by and delivered eggs. I've seen 5 so far...more hunting tomorrow!

Understood! The wallet takes a beating at Disney Parks. That's for sure. I think that between all of the Frozen Fun activities and the Egg-stravaganza (not to mention everything else that's there), you'll have a pretty full day at DCA. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if some of the eggs are hidden at the Frozen sites.

Thank you! So if you got a complete set of the prize eggs last year, did you have to buy 6 maps? I think there were at least 6 eggs, correct?

Cool! Are you going to actually get a map so you can get the prize egg, or are you going to skip the maps? I don't want to know where the eggs are. I would imagine that only a few of the locations shown on page 1 might be repeated this year (or very similar to last year), but others definitely won't be repeated and will be brand new. I mainly wanted to explain how the whole thing works because I could see that there was so much confusion among the readers of the Parks Blog (and I figured that others may wonder how it works as well)! Lol.

I'm planning on picking up one of each map tomorrow! I was thinking of doing a egg-hunt trip report after I get home. Guess it depends on whether I find them all or not! :rotfl:

Is there any chance you could ask them about the map supply for this year? It would be nice to get an idea of whether or not we will even have a chance of getting the maps by the end of next week.

This thread drifted to page 2 of the forum, but seeing that the Egg-stravaganza begins today -- and only lasts for 10 days -- I thought it was worth bumping it up while it is relevant!

As I wandered through DL last night, it looked like the Easter Bunny had not yet started on that park. So, let's hope he finished both parks last night! I'm off to the parks soon!

I'm glad to read that -- I was hoping that not all of the eggs were out and clearly on display the day/night before the hunt actually begins. It kind of takes some of the steam out of the Egg-stravaganza if all the eggs can be seen before the maps are available! They need to keep some mystery until the start date. Plus, as there are only 12 eggs per park, it shouldn't take too long to set them up if the hiding places have been predetermined before the eggs are put in place. Looking at how they are situated and positioned in their assorted locations, it also doesn't look like it would require too much work to secure them, so it shouldn't be a labor-intensive process.

Very cute! Would be fun to do with kids as an afternoon activity when the ride lines get long this time of year.

Not today! :rotfl:It's too hot to be hunting! !! I am so not ready for the summer...

For the most part, the eggs have been fairly easy to find...

Just one note for folks...on the DL map, one clue says "Fantasy Faire"...which is NOT the Fantasy Faire where the Princesses meet. The CMs at Princess Fantasy Faire are telling guests, it's at Fantasy Faire GIFTS.

It's fun, but very easy. The bigger challenge, I think, would be to do the hunt without a map -- or maybe do it without the map at first, and then if the prize is necessary get the map later and apply the stickers to it.

It's too hot. Last year it was hovering around 90 degrees when I did the hunt, and that's too hot for me. My face felt as though it was melting off.

Good to know- we arrive tomorrow!

You would have figured out the location of the egg, even with the misleading clue. I'd rather err on the side of caution in this thread and not hear any details about where the eggs can be found this year. I didn't want to know about the brand new egg locations before I get there, but because figment_jii mentioned one of them now I know.

A similar thing happened last year, when the map gave one or two misleading clues that confused people. It all worked out and we found one or two of them with the help of a CM, but at least we had the chance to try to find them on our own first -- and the confusion provided more of a challenge because the rest of the eggs were so easy to spot.

Sorry Sherry - I didn't think that the note about Fantasy Faire was a spoiler. I felt it was a correction, because the map is misleading and the CMs seemed to be sending folks off to the right place as much as they can so they don't "waste time" (their words) looking in the wrong place. I'll write up my own thread on this year's hunt when I get home so that this thread stays spoiler free.

No problem :goodvibes. I know you were trying to help and didn't think about it being a spoiler, but it's a spoiler just by virtue of the fact that no one here has done this year's hunt or seen this year's map yet, let alone known about any of the eggs' locations. I only had last year's locations to use for reference in my explanation of how the hunt works. I figured that there would be new hiding spots added in -- if not all new hiding spots -- so I didn't want to know where they were before I could have a chance to look for them on my own (just as you didn't want to look at the first 2 posts in this thread because you wanted to try to find the eggs on your own).

If I had gone to DLR today -- which I was considering doing at first -- I probably would have reported back about the hunt with a general overview in this thread, but not with any specifics.

I think that if this were a more difficult hunt (like the different levels I described on page 1, with smaller eggs in harder-to-find spots), then I could see where some folks might need a little help. But the Egg-stravaganza is very easy, for the most part (you had already spotted nearly half of the eggs in DCA before the maps even went on sale!), and this bit of confusion caused by the misleading map is a minor setback. In fact, it might even be a bit deliberate, just to make the egg a little harder to find -- and I truly think that most of the hunters would know to ask a CM and would eventually find the egg.

Last year I encountered the same sort of scenario -- a misleading clue or two on the map -- except at that point the CMs were not volunteering any info unless they were asked. They were not offering up hiding spots to prevent people from wasting time (it's not a timed event, so I guess they didn't think it mattered). They only offered the info if confused people came up and specifically asked them for help. I guess this year they are being a bit more proactive in clearing up the confusion, but what some may see as confusion I probably view as more of a challenge!

Yes, if you do a TR, you can put whatever you want in it because it's a trip report about your DLR trip (and I trust there will be lots of fun Easter treat photos too)!

I'm not sure if I'll do a trip report, but I was thinking of doing a thread like this one, but for the 2015 egg hunt where we can talk about the eggs, the locations and share photos. Basically, it would be one big spoiler thread, but for folks that aren't getting to the parks this year and want to see what happened, they can and for those of us that we're lucky enough to be here, we can share our experiences! I probably won't get to it until Monday at the earliest, so maybe someone else will start one before then. :rotfl:

In terms of the CM, I think they were trying to be helpful. Those weren't the only ones handing out clues or telling folks where to go specifically. So if you don't want any spoilers, you'll need to avoid the CMs in the general areas of the eggs as much as possible.

I missed the hunt last year, maps were sold out by the time I got to the parks, so we made sure we got them first thing today. The CM said the purchase limit was 25, seems like an odd number because that would give you 4 complete sets and 1 extra egg. Also, instead of hunting and bringing back the maps, we could just go straight to the redemption table and if you had 6 maps, you can just get the complete set of eggs (or blind pick if you really wanted to).

I don't want to give out any spoilers but there was one clue that gave us a lot of trouble, even the CMs we asked didn't know the answer.

If anyone finds a nice non melted chocolate egg, please mail it to me. Gracias :)
