Hello, The posts on here have been wonderful! I have learned alot since I joined! I thought why not ask about flights? I am looking to purchase 5 flights possibly 6. So of course I am looking for a great deal! I am leaving from Halifax N.S ( YHZ ) to MCO. 1 change is the best for our family.

Any suggestions about purchasing air flights???

Thanks so much in advance!!!

When are you going? That is going to make a huge difference in price. However, your best bet is likely to drive to Bangor, ME and fly Allegiant air. Depending on when you go you can get round trip flights for under $275 pp (Canadian). The most I've seen them (with the exception of Christmas time travel) is around $350 pp (Canadian). You'll also have a direct flight.

Compare that to Air Canada's cheapest flights which are going to be around $500-600 pp, and will require a 3-5 hour layover in Toronto.

It's about 6.5 hours from Halifax to Bangor, grab a $75 hotel room for the night and fly out the next morning. Assuming $300 ppx5, $100 for gas there/back, your hotel, and 5 tickets, your costs are only $1675. The nice thing is on the way home your flight gets in early enough that you can easily drive straight home, and save another night's hotel.

Compare those costs to approx. $2500-3000 via Air Canada.

Delta is your best bet. You can get 407/person rd. via JFK with only 1h layovers

We bought 3 seats 10 day trip with priceline last week , $315 each flying with delta yhz-mco for this fall

Bangor has been running as expensive if not more than Halifax per seat for quite awhile, even before the bad exchange rates we used to fly from Bangor every year. Portland is a little better try Jetblue or Southwest, but 2 extra hours driving add 20% on the $,and not as good as even last fall, we flew out of Portland last Nov for about $275 Canadian per person. The American based airlines out of Halifax, Delta, United , etc have been the best prices for about the last 6 months for the whole region with quite a few option for flight times.

More money for the mainstream airlines maybe, but I doubt for Allegiant. I priced all those airlines, and they were $300-350 more than Allegiant, per person. Example, today, based on the dates we're going (again when you go OP is going to change the price), Allegiant air, round trip, direct flight from Bangor to Sanford/Orlando is $267 US round trip, per person, taxes/fees in. So, roughly $340 CDN.

For Delta, the price is $610 CDN, with a layover. For United the cheapest is $540 with two layovers.

And you don't save much on baggage either. Delta is $25 for the first bag and $35 for the second bag. Allegiant is $35 for each bag. I'm not sure on the fees for United, but they do charge as well.

Allegiant doesn't fly to MCO, but rather into the Orlando areas other airport Sanford, so there is no ME and it's farther away from WDW . It also has very limited number of days each week it fly's out of and into Bangor. When I checked into Allegiant last week it was on par with the prices i could get out of priceline for Halifax. Especial when i added in extra travel cost to Bangor it was about $100 more than Halifax per seat.

Again, it depends on when you're going. It's far from "very limited", again, it depends on when you're going (which OP has not said). During the peak seasons, Allegiant flies several days a week, sometimes almost every day. If OP is renting a car/staying off-site, then that is not a factor. At $540 ppd, OP would save $1000 with Allegiant. Take off $100 for gas there/back, $100 for a hotel to stay the night in Bangor, and $200 for transfer to/from her Disney resort (assuming she's not renting a car, in which case this is moot), and she would still save $600 based on 5 people. The cheapest on Priceline today is $444 US, so $570 CDN. So again, by far cheaper to drive to Bangor and fly Allegiant.

But again, it all depends on when she goes. My point it, it's definitely not wise or safe to say that it's running more expensive, as a blanket statement, since that's very far from the truth. It may be at certain times, but definitely not always. So, OP, the best advice is to price all options.

Be careful flying through JFK the rest of this year. If you can avoid it, do so. We got an email from Jetblue similar to what is found on their website below:

JFK Runway Construction Project
Last Updated: 3/25/2015 9:35:00 AM EST

As of March 15, 2015, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey have undergone a runway improvement construction project at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. This is expected to continue through the end of 2015 as an infrastructure investment to handle more aircraft efficiently. During this construction period, JetBlue is committed to minimizing any disruption to our flight schedule. Customers are encouraged to check their flight status onlineor via the JetBlue app prior to leaving for the airport. For project details and updates, visit www.panynj.gov.

When they start talking about minimizing disruption you know it can't be good.

This shouldn't be too much of a problem. JFK is one of the largest airports in the usa and it is likely that only 1 runway is in effected. Airlines will probably adjusted the flight time for this problem so it shouldn't be too much of an issue

Hi,
I purchased our tickets! For us driving to the USA is not an option. Our DD is disabled so we have to make plans around her. We also prefer 1 change. I did buy 5 flights via United .. 1 change. Our layovers are about 2 hours so that is great! I paid $495!!!! All tax and fees included.. this price is great! Last year we went with Delta , I paid $450. I like seeing the low $400!!! That would be awesome!!!! I checked the site this morning and the same seats I bought 2 weeks ago are now $615... my older DD friend would like to go but she does not have her ticket money at the moment. She can stay with us no cost as we will be staying in our DVC. So happy to have our airfare! The times are great too!

Driving to the US to fly is a bit of a hassle for us too. We live on Vancouver Island and have to take a ferry in addition to driving. Flights from YYJ (Victoria) to MCO are at about $800 per person.:scared1:
There are 3 of us so $2400. I still have time as we aren't going until November 2015.
