Monorail Operating Costs and Reliability

I agree 100%. The Roys were just what Disney needed at the times and Dam I wish we had them back! Walt was always the first one to admit he could never have don the
magic he did without his Brother.

I'm not sure if a Disney Family member would carry the same weight anymore. Whereas many people used to directly attach the company to Walt, most don't even know who he is anymore. Disney to them is just a company. Maybe some know about him as an old guy who died a long time ago. That's about it.

If you want a 100% proof-positive answer, then you're asking your question in the wrong place.
  • Disney has a vested interest in removing the human element and eliminating the possibility of a future occurrence.
?

Welcome to monorail red. Relax and enjoy your ride knowing to eliminate the possibility of any accident the human element has been removed. The monorail is controlled by computers..computers computers next stop is Magic Kingdom..Magic Kingdom..Kingdom.

That announce being made while leaving the Contemporary station.

Hi DDland,

I understand your point, but you have to remember the people running the company know the history quite well and the family and many old friends of the family own a pretty good % shares when pooled together.

Also the Roys were excellent board members and had the ability to get people working with them to get the job done. At the very least, it would be interesting to watch!

Theres still a few true blood Disneys left. The problem is that they want their own lives and collect their checks from the profits.
Roy and Walt were an unbeatable team. Without each other I doubt that we would have 1/2 of what we have today. Even Roy E recognizing the stagnation of the company and the direction it was going stepped up and said enough is enough.

My own Opinion is Roy E saved the company form being broken up back in the 80'ts.

Those were the years of buy and tear apart a company......The alleged titans of finance did not have the skills or ability to build something them selves, all they could do is stand on the shoulders of real genius and men and women of industry and tear down what they built.

I think it would be much harder to make the case that he DIDN'T save Disney...

Cause he did just that

Hi Logic,

Maybe I am misreading our post??, but my point was he did save Disney.

Considering they wanted to break up the company and sell off the parts, he held it together and its doing fairing well!

I am no happier then you are that Iger has cut back on some of the magic, but if Roy E had not kept the company, there would be nothing left to bring back now.

Just hoping anyway.

I'm 100% agreeing with you...so we got lost in translation...

Sorry ;)

What gave roy e gravitas was not just the name or his pedigree...it was he was the largest shareholder and was incredibly shrewd as an investor...

So he had rich, valuable friends that served Disney well in the 80's bailout and through most of the Eisner era.

But roy burned the family bridge in the process... Which means the Disney name became a business word - not a family name - when he died.

If Eisner had just groomed a true creative successor and stepped away...as all wise CEOs do...the place wouldn't be so sterile now. But he went nuts

So what are they planing to do when they take the racing track out? They are just saying they are using the area for transportation improvements. Some speculate a new magic kingdom entrence? Not sure how that will work. Just going to be a glorified bus staging area? They already have that at the old airport runway near the comtempary. They need to bring vision and imagination back to the world.

More than likely expanded parking and some sort of entrance expansion or improvements.

New parking area so they can expand the heck out of the Poly.

This in red! Eisner's one real mistake!

His biggest...I don't know if "only" is accurate.

Roy...by taking out Eisner...insured that the sterile suit - Iger - would take over. There were no other legitimate options at the time.

Eisner didnt want him... As it was very clear in "disney war"...he thought he had no imagination.

Basically a cheap suit.

So in a way...Eisner and roy "collaborated" to get what they didnt want...a sterile Disney without creative vision.

Iger is a very well compensated professional shopper. He's good at it...but not very creative to do anything that can't be plugged into Microsoft excel

Well My friend....you put it much better then I could.....summed it up perfectly..........I agree 100%.

I think Roy figured it was the lesser of 2 evils instead of what was needed. In hind sight, it may not have been apparent to Roy what was really needed.

Pods may not be able to replace the full volume of the monorail. However if you did a north parking lot for day traffic. One could use the pods as a deluxe resort exclusive. One would think they could handle that portion of the traffic. You pay extra for the deluxe you get the fancy new transportation gismo.
