What to expect for DL's 60th anniversary in 2015 (Starting May 22)

I wonder if they will start selling any of this merchandise before May 22? I will be there on April 22 and sure would love to get a few things.

Can someone tell me (without my reading thru 17 pages to see if this has been asked already) whether or not the castle will remain decorated with diamonds for the year, or several months at least?
I have a trip tentatively planned for mid-Sept.

I Imagine the castle will remain decorated for the entire 60th year from the time it completes decoration to July 2016 at the least, longer if the celebration runs over.

Great find @lizabu

Here is a link to the registration page for the event on the 20-21

I can't help but notice that some of the items from the video released a few days ago are absent. I know there were a few different shirts that aren't in that program, in addition to the Dooney and Burke purses, plush Mickey and Minnie, commemorative dishware and a number of other things!

This is all too exciting.

They are having an event on May 20 & 21, where you can pay $100 to attend, and possibly get to purchase some items. I'll pass, and take my chances when items are released to everyone else.

To attend the merchandising event and anything else, other than making a purchase?

Is there an end date for this DL 60 years celebration that will be starting the weekend of the 24 hr day in May? My DD24 had a sudden thought that we had to go, and now we are going, to WDW this year for the 24 hr event in MK! Then I had the second sudden thought that we've gotta go to DL for a first visit sometime, and during the sixty years celebration would be best, so probably same time next May!! Do we know yet how long the celebration will go on? Any info would be great!, TIA!!

There's a pretty good chance that next May, this celebration could be over. Other anniversary celebrations have lasted longer. But Disney's current trend seems to favor shorter celebrations. That being said, the fireworks and Paint The Night will continue regardless.

I agree. No one really knows but this is a pretty good guestimate.

My most sincere apologies if this was already brought up, I was looking at booking May 9-16th- would there be entertainment during this time? just not the new stuff?

Thank you both for answering! Hmm, are you meaning that it will have stopped in previous months or that May would be the last month? You don't think it will last a full year at least ( end of May) or til say, July 17 the year from the sixtieth?

Traditionally, the anniversary celebrations have run through September, or even December of the following year. The 50th anniversary began on May 5, 2005, and ran through September of 2006. No other anniversaries since have lasted long. Actually, there really haven't been any anniversary celebrations of more than a few days since Disneyland's 50th. WDW hasn't had a real anniversary celebration since the 25th, and that was back in the mid-90's. The success of Disneyland's Diamond Celebration will probably help to determine how far Disney goes with WDW's 50th, which will be in 2021.

But to answer the rest of your question. If my hunch is correct about the Diamond Celebration being over by next May, I would expect a wind-down to begin during the winter months. If things are still going on in May of next year, then the celebration will end in September, to prepare the park for Halloweentime.

---------------Interesting Parade News ------------

The Disneyland Resort has announced it will be casting both male and female ‘hand-and-rod puppeteers’ for a ‘new exciting and high-energy parade that winds its way through the heart of the Disneyland Park.’ While it has already been announced that Disneyland will be getting its own signature version of Hong Kong Disneyland’s ‘Paint the Night’ parade for the 60th Anniversary, that parade does not make use of hand-and-rod puppets, which are the type of puppets most associated with ‘Sesame Street’ and ‘The Muppets.’

Also they have disbanded the Disneyland Band and are forming a new Disneyland Band where the current members can reapply.
