As the Ticker Turns...the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

Honestly for $100 more I'd do AKL. One of our changers babyberger just did a trip there Standard room and she had an amazing view of the feeding area, the resort is magical. Mind you I've never done POR, but I love having everything in one building and there is SO much to see at AKL

Thanks for the feedback. DH is adamant that we not all sleep in the same room and is pretty keen on a second bathroom. Kidani Village fits the bill but AK is.not of huge interest to us. Any other suggestions? Art of An Suites could work but then we lose the walkability of the CR.

BLT? maybe :)

FWIW, I also know people who were promised connecting rooms and didn't get them... one was a family of 7 that had to fight to be on the same floor. The problem is Disney can't always align check-in/check-out dates with neighboring rooms and maintenance issues can knock a room out of commission unexpectedly.

Have you looked at SoG? BLT is a great resort if you can swing it - beautiful views and close to MK. My friends are partial to 1 BR Villas at Saratoga now that you can walk to DtD.

I did look at SoG but their suites were booked and they couldn't guarantee connecting rooms. DH is being surprisingly high-maintenance lol and wants a separate sleeping area for the kiddos. I would jump at BLT but they are all booked up so far. I am actually on the phone with Disney right now. This poor woman must be new. She is so confused. She cancelled the reservation we had without booking the next one and she keeps telling me she is booking me a suite but I'm pretty sure it's just a room.

Ok somehow I've ended up with a garden view room at the GF. This lady is sweet but admitted she has only been doing this for a month. We've been on the phone for almost two hours. I'm exhausted!!

Oh my...What are your dates again? And how old are the kids?

What about a junior suite at CSR? Or a deluxe room at WL (separate sleeping areas, but only 1 bathroom)? AoA family suites have 2 bathrooms and separate sleeping areas as well. I don't remember what you said you liked and didn't like...

Oh, a Junior Suite at CSR would be nice! We loved CSR at Christmas and my 7 yo says it's her second fave Disney resort (behind YC). Our group of 12 loved it!
Honestly, I wish hubby had a reason why we'd have to go with a multi-room unit - so many options! But, it's already been hard enough to get him to agree to Deluxe and even then he watches the Disney 'seasons' to make sure it's a better bang for the buck. :)

I am not sure how your leave is, but if you're pretty confident you could look into renting points for a DVC... that would drop the cost of the Villas some and make some of the larger options available? Problem is it can be hard to change if his leave is changed for some reason, but I am not 100% familiar with the system. :)

Thanks. I don't know what I like and don't like -- almost everything looks great! AofA is a little too loud for me. I liked it at first but I think after a long day in the park, I would prefer something a little more subdued.

We were initially booked in a 1 br villa at WL but theming didn't hold appeal for the rest of the family. Go figure. Monorail to MK would be huge. It's hard to switch from that mentally to something else but I will look into the junior suites at CSR. Thanks for all the tips!

Oh and DH's leave is pretty certain but the DVC points rental thing is rather overwhelming and confusing to me.

Ok no junior suites available at CSR. Now we are in a tower room at CR, Bay Lake View. For today anyway. ;)

Well DH didn't like the idea of being in one room, despite the stellar location, and we both felt the trip was a bit rushed (the impetus for this was a family reunion in FL in June) so we pushed our trip back to September. We are staying 6 nights instead of 4, and we are staying in a 1 BR Villa at BW. For now.

Honestly, I would lay out what's important for you in a resort - location, pool, amenities, themeing - and then find the top few that meet those needs. It sounds like a villa is what works best for your family, but you don't seem settled on BWI... is there a reason? BWI is one of my 'dream' resorts ((DD7 had an aversion to clowns when we were going to stay there so we moved to YC which actually worked well for us)), but maybe you prefer the appeal of a monorail resort?

One trick I used in our last few trips was to lay out where we planned to spend most of our time and go from there. Three years ago, we went with 4 of my ILs for their first trip to WDW and did a POR/YC split because we needed to save a little and I wanted to be able to use SAB on our off day and walk to EPCOT the last half of our trip because I knew that's where they would like best. Last Sept, we focused on MK so we did WL for convenience to and from the park. This past Christmas, as part of a group of 12, we needed value but nice enough to want to laze around and got FD at CSR which worked amazingly for the whole group (seriously, not one complaint which was seriously unexpected).

If you plan on spending a lot of time at MK, you may want to consider one of those resorts... if you see a lot of meals at EPCOT, then BWI sounds like a great fit. If you want some peace and relaxation and time away from the parks, maybe SSR or OKW. I will say that going in Sept, plan on early mornings, midday breaks, and later nights. The heat and humidity are unreal (it was upper 80s and HUMID our trip last year)... and that's coming from someone who lived in Florida for a year.

OH! *~* Personal update *~*
Booked our trip for DH's work up near Tokyo... one step closer to seeing Mickey at TDR!!! We will have the weekend to explore Tokyo before DH has to go nose to the grindstone but I'm hoping to explore a but during the week.
I'm still going back and forth about whether to do one day or two at TDR(we'd take the train in and it's about a 90 minute ride each way). Since it's just me and the girls (and maybe a friend and her daughter), I'm thinking of just doing a day at TDL and saving DisneySea for when DH is there - DD7 wants to do Tower of Terror but I know she'll be freaked about doing it alone when she can't speak the language! We did manage to find an Ana dress for LO right before we left the states so I'll have my little blondies in costume in the cosplay capital of the world! :upsidedow

I am actually very psyched about BW. I just said "for now" because I have changed so many times and this is the resort changer thread. :)

We will prob do more MK than EPCOT but I think this will work out ok. I would do Oct or Nov but we can only book thru Oct 3 right now and get the big discount on the hotel rooms. Any suggestions for booking later and getting that stars and stripes discount?

Check Military Disney Tips for any updates to a new discount for next fiscal year. Steve has been pretty good about updating immediately prior to the release of the new year's discount - usually July-ish
I, personally, would book a room only discount for now; if the new discount works for you, you can cancel room only and try to book under the military promotion. If not, you can keep your reservation for Sept. If you call ASAP after the new discount is announced, the world is your oyster and a lot more is available since it's a new discount.
You can always add a package if you decide later (or if FD is announced and you decide you want to go with that instead), but RO reservations have a lot more flexibility and time for change with no penalties.

Are there other discounts for the fall that I could use now? I was just looking on Steve's website so I will keep a lookout for the new military offerings in July. Once again, I am all over the map!! Part of me wants to just show up at Disney tomorrow and stay wherever and just deal with it lol.

Popping in to say hi!

Post Disney depression has got me good. :( We had such a amazing time at AOA (changed from CBR which caused problems with our dining credits and a extra set of magic bands delivered by a confused CM!) and I want to go back noowww. We had a peek at room rates/flights for November last night though...

Maybe I need an intervention. I'm so indecisive about our upcoming fall trip its not even funny. I think its because its my brothers first trip (he has special needs and food allergies) and I want everything to be perfect for him and for him to fall in love with disney. Right now I am booked in a standard room at CBR with requests for a murphy bed and ground floor. We started out booked at a art of animation little mermaid and switched since they have all double beds, so far from main lobby, and never get any discounts. Considered the Allstars and nixed the values altogether for this trip. Switched to Caribbean Beach for the great splash area, queen beds, murphy bed) then discovered no elevators. So started researching other options. I still have my eye on CSR and would request Cabanas and a roll away bed but since requests are never a sure bet I am still wrestling with my decision. I think I might be a chronic resort changer. My dream resort is AKL but the fall discounts would have to be significant for that to be an option.
