Ways to save on eating out while in Orlando?

Another good one to remember is Moe's Southwest Grill (national chain in Crossroads Plaza) has 'Moe's Monday's'. Just went there this past Monday...$6.49 for a burrito, chips and drink. Good deal!

We love Steak n' Shake and try to stop there on every trip to WDW. There is one on 535 just outside DtD.

And, considering all of the information in the post you quoted, there's no way I'd be canceling the trip unless my spouse got another job that wouldn't allow the time off for the trip as originally planned.
I must be the only one then. Those weeks on vacation could be spent searching for a job and all that money spent on souvenirs, food, misc expenses, etc could be used for bills, medical, etc... Airfare is always refundable through vouchers and I'm sure Disney will give credit if cancelled within a certain period of time. There are more important things in life other than Disney world.

The OP is not from the USA. Their healthcare is taken care of in an entirely different manner than it is here. Their unemployment is handled differently. They pay into their mandatory 3 weeks of annual summer vacation time from their salary from the previous year. This is only one additional week of vacation time. They would be purchasing food anyway at home and food in Europe is much more expensive than it is in the USA. They are renting an apartment, not staying in a Disney resort.

It really strikes me that you only want to stir the pot and have no interest whatsoever in forming your opinion based on actual facts. If you were, you would have actually read the thread that you referenced.

I would be among the first to tell someone to skip a vacation if they sounded as if they could not afford it. The OP does not come across as someone who cannot afford this trip.

You are allowed your opinion but that would be better off in the other thread. This thread is about saving money dinning out.

I think you have gotten amazing suggestions! I like resturants.com. You buy a $25 gift card for $10 and need to spend $50 (this is just an example). So make sure you read about the requirements and check out the menu to make sure you will meet the requirements, but they can save a good amount. Every restaurants rules are a little diffeent. I have only used in NY but have had no issues.

If you go have a great trip!

It looks like this is pretty much walking distance from our time share, I am planning on going there after we check in. Thanks for the sweet tomatoes recommendation. Looks like there is one fairly close to us so I am going to sign us up for coupons.

No has mention this pick up a coupon books at any hotel or tourist stop they have plenty on coupons to save on meals. I would like to add Chili's . They have this taco platter that is huge the under 10 bucks and can feed 2 adults easily and maybe one one kid.

Since you will be in an apartment, I'm sure you will be buying groceries. I find Publix has a nice eating area, with a selection of prepared foods, chicken, salads, etc. We like to have a meal out while we are getting our groceries. It seems to me Walmart has something similar, but it might not be as extensive for choices. Also, Walmart might not have an eating area like Publix does. It's been some time since I've eaten at Walmart.

Steak and Shake has been mentioned, and we always stop there too. Very often the Orlando Sentinal newspaper Sunday edition has coupons for Steak and Shake. But the menu has a wide selection of choices for $4.00 so you might not even need the coupons.

Since you have an apartment I'd recommend getting food to go. A lot of the chain restaurants sell party platters that come out cheaper per serving than individual plates. Combine with your own salad and drinks and it's much less expensive than eating out in a restaurant.

Tanks for all your ideas, I am so grateful. We will definitely eat in most of the time, but as we have a whole 4 weeks to fill, we will most likely eat out a few times. Sine it is different from home, eating out can be just as exiting to the kids as a day in a park. They are easy to please ;-)

But one question that might seem silly to you guys: I see several mentioned of cupons as a way of saving money. Do one need to be a member, or sign up for anything in order to use cupons? Or is it more like Grupon (and restaurants.com?) where you prepay for the meal?
And also, someone mentioned that cupons can be found at hotels - am I wrong in guessing at the reception?
(I feel real daft asking, but the only cupons I have ever come across are those we get in the mail every month or so from our local grocery store, but you need to be a member to get those, also you only get them if you shop extensively there)

You can find coupons books in the lobby of most motels, as well as grocery stores and restaurants. They will be in books that say things like "Orlando Visitor's Guide", "Local Area Attractions", etc. and there's usually a gaggle of them near the vending areas in front of the stores.

In addition to Steak n Shake, in honor of DH I'd like to throw in Sonic. It's a unique dining experience. You park in a spot and they bring the food out to your car, sometimes in roller skates.

Some other "American favs" we like: Pollo Tropical (mexican), Popeyes (fried chicken), Chic-a-filet (fast food).

Steak - we prefer Morton's and Ruth's Chris but those are pricey. The Palms at one of the hotels in Universal is nice, still on the pricey side. For more affordable steaks there's Longhorn's, Texas Roadhouse, & Outback.

BBQ - Sonny's BBQ is a big chain in FL. Haven't been there in years!

Please don't go to sonnys. That's like saying go to mcdonalds for a great burger. If you want good BBQ in Orlando I would recommend Fat boys bbq, porkies, or Harry and larry's A decent chain BBQ is bubbalou's. All are good just stay away from sonnys.

We are a family of 4; DD4, DD8, DH and myself, from Europe. Only been to Florida once before.

This time we are looking in to ways we can save some money while on holiday in Orlando. Eating out is an obvious place to start. Although we will stay in an apartment, and can prepare our own food there, we do enjoy eating out while abroad. Doesn't have to be too fancy or anything; for us it is pretty much an adventure anyway as it is something different from home I'll never forget DDs face when she realised that they only had pancakes on the menu when we visisted a pancake-place. It was like pancake-heaven for her ;-)
Kids eat pretty much anything. DH would love a good steak, or BBQ.

Any suggestions on how we can save money when eating out, or suggestions to places we should try out while in Orlando?
Lee AND RICKS... my hometown favorite for oysters and check out the orlando sentinel.. they usually list good information for restaraunts.. pancakes.. go to dennys or ihop. cheap. pm meif you want,,, old native.

Just a couple more great restaurant suggestions :flower:
Flippers Pizza~ has been recommended quite a bit on the boards, tried it in February and it was great! I think pizza and appetizers are a great way to feed a family and not spend a lot. http://www.flipperspizzeria.com/

Giordano's Pizza~ also great! We would get it every trip, tried Flipper's for a change last time. They're both really good, just different styles. Giordano's is a thicker deep dish type crust. Fills you up easily, so a little goes a long way! They have a couple locations in Orlando near Disney World. http://giordanos.com/

Bubbalou's BBQ~ Awesome BBQ! http://bubbalous.com/

Wild Side BBQ~ We went in for a beer, wings, and appetizers. The place smelled amazing and a lot of people there were eating steak... we regretted not eating a steak, but plan to go back next time. It's in Kissimmee, very close to Magic Kingdom. http://www.wildsidebbq.com/

Mimi's Cafe~ Consistent good home inspired food. You can sign up through email for coupons, they often send buy one get one free entrees. http://www.mimiscafe.com/default.aspx

Good luck!

If your DD loves pancakes you might want to check out Cracker Barrel. They serve homestyle meals at reasonable prices. They also have a separate breakfast menu that is served all day. We often go to Cracker Barrel and have breakfast for dinner.
