April 2015 Car Rental Codes

Sorry - found it and I don't have to be flying Southwest but for some reason I'm getting 900 dollars for one week of an SUV with that code. Must be the wrong dates for me.

Picking up on April 4th vs April 5th this year is very detrimental to our rate. We had a wonderful rate of $300 all-in for a weekly mini-van, but need to adjust the rate to add a few more hours (our flight changed) and will increase our rate by over $700 (more than $1,000 all in). We were so excited to have a better flight out but the car rental change during the holiday period is killing me. I have a back-up ressie with a mid-size SUV if we can't adjust our mini-van rental before pick-up (which looks to be very likely at the moment).

Rates are down for our April 11-24 trip into Tampa with National. Not as good as as deal as I got a month ago, but they are down significantly.

Have you tried jiggling the pick up and drop times by 30 minutes either way? Sometimes that changes the rate.

Never mind. The issue is probably that no one wanted to pick up ON Easter so you had a good rate. Now you're arriving on Saturday before Easter with everyone else...

I agree with PP (change around 30 minutes/an hour each end). If all else fails, if it were me I'd plan on feeding the kids a meal at the airport and having 'reading time' (at the airport) for an hour or so on each end of the trip. (No way would I pay $700 for a few hours extra.)

Or, have you tried picking up at Dolphin, and returning to MCO? You could take Magical Express, then a few hours later taxi it to Dolphin (or Shades of Green area car center), or other non-airport location for your car agency. HTH.

Just booked with Budget using Costco and a 25 off coupon and received a full size car for 477. Not the best, but better than the 606 quote I had from Alamo using the same Costco discount.

From PP: "Question: is this an issue for the Disney/Universal area? Are there many tolls with no option to pay cash? Should we spend the 90.00 (10 days X 8.99) for this device?"

When going to WDW or Universal, you can use the cash lanes which are on the right, almost like an exit.

I have stated this before, sorry to repeat myself. But when your flights change, and you go to check your car rental with the new times, and the price skyrockets, CALL the car rental agency. I just had to do this for my arrival on April 23. I am now arriving 2+ hours earlier. I had a mid SUV for $199 all in, using Costco codes, booked months ago. They did the time adjustment and only added on $17. When I looked online, it was over $500 for that vehicle.

This is the 2nd time I had to call Alamo to change my car rental by several hours, and both times they were able to salvage my prior low booking rate. (I was not concerned about paying $17 more for a few more hours, $216 for an SUV is acceptable for a week).

sharona and amanda-
I have tried moving the times around. We were always arriving on the 4th (the 5th has much better rates!) but are now flying out a few hours later on the 11th. I shouldn't be complaining because we got a smoking deal on a non-stop flight home, which was so lucky and convenient!
PatMcDuck-
I have tried several times calling Budget and talking to representatives. The last rep suggested keeping the current ressie and adding a day after we pick it up. (He estimated a $100 or so daily rate, but we wouldn't know until we attempted to extend it.) I will keep calling, though, until we depart. After we arrive at the airport, we will just want to pick up the vehicle without any hassles and enjoy the vacation. I have a back-up ressie with a smaller vehicle, just in case.
The lesson I learned for the future is to book the vehicle for more time than I need (to add an extra day's charge at a great rate) and then shorten it later if necessary.

So sorry to hear that Budget was unable to help you with your flight time change. Curious that Alamo was willing to help me both times, I usually book with them only because they are usually the cheapest using Costco.

Thanks, PatMcDuck.
For some reason, last year Budget was much more accommodating. (Delta changed our flight, and we ended up out of a different airport, also over the Easter Holiday.) Sometimes, I think the actual representative that you happen to speak with makes all the difference.

Prices are starting to drop for April, at least on Costco's site. Just got a Full Size down to $220 from 4/23 - 4/30 -- am hoping it will drop below $200 before we leave. I can usually get a full size down at least around $150 from Costco for Orlando.

My Alamo rate finally dropped today. My rate for 4/9 thru 4/14 is down to $186.12 from $264.26. I used the Costco Code & Visa coupon.

I have to agree. Last year we decided to extend our rental by a day and when I looked online the rental prices were about $60 for a day. I called Almo and they charged me $16 for keeping the car the extra day. I remember saying to the agent "$60 like six-zero, right?" And she said, "No, sixTEEN." Lol. Maybe call back and ask someone else? Good luck!!!

so Car Rental Savers has been doing this thing now for the last few days where one brand per day shows up as super cheap for a weekly rental for 4/4 - 4/11, but when you go to make the reservation, it gives you an error message.

Yesterday was Avis, today Budget.

I've generally used the site to track prices but hadn't ever tried to book through them until yesterday - anyone have similar experiences? Is there any way to hold them to the price they show even as it won't allow me to complete the reservation? Has premium SUVs for 199 all in for that week showing right now!

Alamo rates for Easter are down today. Got my 4/2-4/7 down to $153 from 393!

Also, I see a lot of posts on changing times. I rarely use times that I actually show up and have never had a problem. I always make sure that my depart time on the last day is earlier than my arrive time on the first day to avoid an extra fee. Have never called, changed, etc and have never had a problem.
