Hi Everyone!

Our family of 5 (boys ages 6, 10 & 12) will be staying at UO for a week towards the end of July. I was able to book a standard room at PBH through cheaptickets. I primarily chose PBH because of the room size.

It turns out I can book RPR Club level for an additional $258.

We plan on hitting the parks for EE, coming back to the hotel for lunch and swimming and then heading back to the parks around or after dinner time.

Do you think the additional $258 is worth it? How about the trade off in room size?

Thanks for your help. This is our first Universal trip, so I'm sure this won't be my last question. :)

I think I'd stick with PBH and the larger room with five people.

We were pretty crowded into a HRH room with four adult sized people, so when we stayed at RPR earlier this month, we splurged and got two connecting rooms. We would have been miserable in one room with us four. And we did spend some time in our rooms, DH wasn't feeling well so often napped and my son likes computer time, so did that instead of the pool in the afternoons with DD and I.

I prefer the Portofino and have never stayed at the RPR, but we always have club access because it adds a dimension of convenience to our trip that we wouldn't want to go without. With the age of your kids and the number of times you will likely be able to take advantage of the club with the plan you stated - I'd say that the little over $7 per person per day will be easily offset by the perks you'll get. (Not just a "good value", but offset by actual cost savings you'd have to spend otherwise). So while we personally would probably opt for the PBH standard room because we love the resort itself, my point is that you shouldn't feel that you'd need to justify the $258 strictly on the convenience factor of having club access. I'd consider the RPR/Club option the less expensive option.

The difference in room size isn't really enough to add the ability to do anything extra in the PBH that you couldn't do at the RPR - and having 3 kids and 2 adults in the same room is going to have the same "challenges" ;) whether you have those few extra square feet in the room or not.

Bottom line is I'd look at what theme appeals to you more and weigh that heavily first.
