Expedition Everest Challenge 2015 - EEC 2015

... they offered insurance on the registration so they must know its a problem!... it just feels wrong that its basically a wasted spot now when someone else who really wanted to and could run it should!
Races that don't do transfers likely have sold more registrations than they can handle, anticipating a % of no shows -- this may especially be the case for runDisney with the seemingly high number of new runners (or non-runners) registering for events. If that's the case it's less a wasted spot than a reduction of the field to what they're already preparing to accommodate.

I really wish they would post the packet pickup times. I need to know how late I can fly down on Saturday.

That's a really good point, thank you

I'm so excited!:hyper: I have been so worried that my DD9 was not going to be able to finish 3 miles that I'd forgot about my own abilities. I have been trying to get to the gym to run on the track since the weather has been AWFUL, but I have been very bad about it. When I've actually dragged myself down there, it was all I could do to squeak out 2 miles.

Tuesday, I went to the gym and told myself that I was going to take it slow and easy, but I was going to go all 41 laps, which is 5K. I did it!:cool1: It took me 40 minutes, but I did it. Then today, I'm still really sore, but I decided that I should keep it up. DH and I dragged the girls with us. We told them that they needed to do all 41 laps, but we would walk and run at their pace. We opted to do a 5-lap warm-up walk and then we did the remaining 35 laps in intervals. We'd walk 3 laps and run 2...and then we walked the final lap. We finished with a time of 48 minutes!:jumping1: The sad thing is, my DD11 didn't even break a sweat! In fact she was SINGING while she ran!:dancer: I was faced with my own challenge in that when we got to the gym, I realized that I was so focused on gathering the girls' running gear, I'd managed to forget my own pants! So I did all 41 laps in my JEANS:lmao:. We were quite the sight to behold out there, but by golly, we did it:cheer2:. That is one HUGE worry that has been lifted off my shoulders. Now, we are off to reward ourselves with a post-run dinner.

Getting closer to race time! I'm getting excited. I'm at the 60-day mark to make fastpasses for my trip. I wish runDisney would give us a few more details about packet pickup at Animal Kingdom ... trying to plan out my days, and I am wondering where/when exactly this "expo" (if there is an expo) and packet pickup will be. Disney has programmed me to pre-plan every day to the extreme, and so now I am impatient when they don't give us all the necessary info well in advance! :upsidedow

I kinda wish packed pickup could be at ESPN WWOS, since I associate that complex with Disney races and the start of a fun weekend. However, I remember back when packet pickup was literally just a folding table within the Motion club at Pleasure island. (This was for the first Tower of Terror 13k, or the Minne "Women Run the World" 15k, or maybe it was the first Everest? Anyway, it was a while ago!) But I see there is a cheerleading thing at WWOS May 1-3...

I really wish they would post the packet pickup times. I need to know how late I can fly down on Saturday.

I emailed RunDisney with that question, and they said packet pickup would be available 4-7 Saturday night (in addition to whatever other times are available). Note -- I can only vouch for the email that was sent to me on December 30, 2014, so hopefully, things won't change. You can bet I will print that out when I go to packet pickup if it does change, b/c my wife is running as well, and she made flight arrangements based on that assumption.

Question for EEC veterans... Is there a place at the after party where you can get your medal engraved? My DD9 was looking at my medal from the 2013 W&D and saw the space on the back where I could have had it engraved and she asked if she could have hers engraved. If not, she has a plan...

I got us FP for the Anna and Elsa meet and greet and it is after the race. She wants to bring a Sharpie and have the ladies autograph her medal! If it won't work on the medal, I'm sure they could sign the ribbon for her.

For anyone with family who wanted to volunteer while you do the run...I just got an email from Disney Sports Enthusiast that volunteer registration for EE starts on March 13th.

I found volunteering at the January 5K to be very rewarding, and I highly recommend it. (Kids have to be over 14 or 16, though (can't remember which one), and you can't bring underage kids with you. So that does keep some people from volunteering.)

Sunshine girl, I just saw your post about the cheerleading event May 1-3. It is giving me flashbacks of karaoke at Kimonos last year. At some point (I think it is 11 pm) Kimonos kicks out everyone under 18, but up until then there were a lot of groups of pre-teen cheer girls singing angry Taylor Swift songs in unbelievably high-pitched voices at TOP CHEER VOLUME!!!

I'm going back to Kimonos Friday night before race day, because I had an amazingly fun time there last year, but I think I'll go later this year.

I hope everyone's training is going well. The winter weather here in NH has been keeping me inside on the treadmill, but once the snowbanks recede a little I'm looking forward to putting in some miles on the road.

With a little over a month to go, I'm getting anxious awaiting the final race instructions. It'd also be nice to know some information about packet pickup.

How is everyone doing? How is training/trip planning going?

Run Disney has added final race instructions with info on packet pick-up.

I think there is a typo on the page though. It says runners must go to ESPN Wild(?) World of Sports Complex for packet pick up. Then in the next paragraph it says packet pick up is at Animal Kingdom. Odd. Or possibly it's just a clever attempt at a play on words, wild/animal...

We've not ever tried, so I honestly didn't notice last year if they had medal engraving available at the finish. If not, I believe you can get medals engraved at Disney's Wonderful World of Memories in Downtown Disney -- if your daughter would like to have it engraved and signed by a princess.

I called just as I was opening up the Final Race Instructions. Both the Final Instructions and the representative I spoke to say Animal Kingdom, so it's likely just a missed edit on the webpage. Final Instructions show Animal Kingdom for both the hours section and the section on transportation to/from packet pickup. :thumbsup2
