Hi everyone, I have been travelling to the USA and Disneyland California for many years. I usually travel from Ireland, and connect in Heathrow to USA flights. If any first timers to USA and Disneyland California have any questions feel free to ask. I can't guarantee that I can answer but maybe I help you find the information.

I take it that you might be from N. Ireland.

Otherwise why not fly out of Dublin using any airline .

You do know that by flying out of Dublin or Shannon you will clear

Immigration & customs in both airports so on arrival on USA land you

arrive as a Domestic Traveller .

For me in the Cork area I travel to Dublin & onwards ... less stop overes

We have done Cork to Amsterdam & onwards a few times

Actually I am from Dublin. I fly via Heathrow to get direct to LA. :)

Do you have any tips on car hire at LAX? It seems they're all located away from the terminal so that you have to get a shuttle, and that can take a long time if there's traffic? Is this right?

Also what's the traffic like on a Sunday? I'm pulling together an outline itinery for October. Because of there being fireworks only on weekends I'm looking at splitting our Disney days over 2 weekends. For one of them I'd prefer to be staying elsewhere than Anaheim, which I realise will mean a longish drive, but fits better with our other plans. If we're going earlyish, and coming back late, would that be doable?

Thanks for any help you can give!

You can fly to the USA from Northern Ireland too; we always use United from Belfast and connect in Newark to anywhere in the states :D

I heard a rumour a few weeks ago that Virgin are trying to set up a Manchester LAX route, maybe starting 2016.That would be great for us as we're going to Disneyland in 2017, which brings me on to ask if you've stayed at any of the Disney hotels there and if so which was your favourite?

We've stayed at Grand Californian on one trip - it was booked as a surprise for me and was wonderful.
The other 2 visits we've stayed at Hojos on Harbour Boulevard - a quick easy walk to the parks each day and much cheaper

Id love to stay onsite again but to be honest the off site hotels are so close and as we only use the hotel as a base to sleep it doesn't make a lot of difference to us.

I have flown with Virgin Atlantic from Heathrow in 2014 and I have booked this year aswell and yes they are my preference for transatlantic :) I have flown with various other airlines but there is just something about Virgin that really makes that 11 hour flight just that little bit nicer.

When I go to Disneyland California I stay off site. Last year was the first year I stayed in Anaheim, at Motel 6 Main Gate and I'm staying there this year again.

My Disney California trips are part of a longer visit to California, so my accommodation budget is lower. I want to spend as much time in the parks as possible, so I just want a basic hotel. When I go to Disneyland Paris, its a specific trip just to Disney and staying onsite is part of the experience.
