Staying at Riverside : Show me pics, get me excited!!

I'd love to see a bit of detailed discussion from the folks who have been posting such great HDR shots about the process that they go though in making these images.

I've got quite a lot of bracketed tripod images sitting on my hard drive (Canon 7D, RAW, +/- 2 stops, mostly with a 10-20mm lens) which I need to go though, but no matter what settings I try in Photomatix they never seem to come out quite as well as some of the images posted here, with colour temperature being one of the biggest concerns. They just don't 'pop' in a natural way, I can either get them very flat, or heading into grunge territory, but not quite where I want them to be.

In fact, generally I'm happier with the results I get from using Photoshop's RAW image processor on the middle-exposed image, often dropping highlights completely and adding some shadow detail, like this one:

I have tried a few HDR shots as well, but I've never succeeded either, so if anyone has tips, I'd love to hear them to. Andre, that shot is beautiful!

Glad you said this as I've been thinking of trying HDR and read that Photomatrix was the go to program.....maybe I'll just stick to Lightroom and try to master that.

So none of your night-time photos above were HDR processed?

No I just use Lightroom. My problem is I use a filter to change exposure on certain parts; say just the sky.... but it also affects the trees or other items that are poking into the sky. Need more practice I guess.

OMGosh!! I'm so excited for our September trip.

PizzaMan - these shots are fantastic! I can smell the fresh air and feel the night air lol I can't wait to walk around this beautiful resort.
