Oasis of the seas coming to Port Canaveral

Going out of Fort Lauderdale in the fall on Oasis. SO wish it were moving to Canaveral already, make our trip much easier especially since we want to do a MNSSHP before or after. I think it's going to be a very popular given it's reasonable rates and on ship amenities.

Many are wondering how Disney will react now that they have bigger competition in Canaveral. I have family who has sailed on both the oasis and the allure the sister ships and have said they are excellent.

They had to see it coming. Everyone wants those big ships (and cruisers) to their ports. While I hope to do a DCL trip one day, the price difference particularly for a family is substantial. The same cruise on DCL would cost us more than double. We're even cruising to ports I've been to, have no plan to get off the ship - booked for the ship.

I agree we have looked into a Disney cruise several times but it's just so expensive. I will say I've never heard of a bad disney cruise experience. Royal Carribean also just announced a third ship to its oasis class. This new ship is supposed to be even bigger than the other two.

That is what I am afraid of .... everyone loves their Disney cruise!! and wants to do it again.

I heard about the ship - with the new MagicBands yet and big water slides. It's def gearing the amenities for the older kids and tech cruisers. Maybe pick up some Disney cruisers who kids "age out". I think there is a fourth to come later. Interesting how this one integrates some Quantum amenities in to it. I might have to get another cruise on the books especially if Harmony has the bumper cars. :drive:

I'd like to go on any of these ships. But I do find it funny how royal followed Disney with the magicbands.

Actually, the technology used in Magicbands was around long before Disney bought in. In the case Royal was not following Disney.

I know it was the great wolf lodge hotel chain has been using it for years. But no company as large as Disney has done something like this. Royal is also a very large company and I'm sure eventually all of their ships will get bands. DCL may get something similar as well. They already use a look a like magicband for the kids clubs.

Umm...DCL doesn't have magic bands, Royal does. DCL only uses magic bands for the kids clubs...whereas the quantum of the seas has it for all passengers. All passengers on DCL still get cards, not bands

I said they used them for the kids clubs I didn't say they used them for all people. I wouldn't be surprised in the future if Disney does do it for all cruise guests tho.

Those monster sized ships, Oasis class, still scare me!... I have big questions about them in a emergency

I for one am all in on this announcement...

Our three most recent cruises were the Explorer, celebrity constellation, and Disney dream...

If I had to rank them as far as best overall - all things taken into account...it would be:

1. Constellation
2. Explorer of the seas
3. Dream

Beyond ports and shore activities...which you can't tie to the ship necessarily...it's quite simple:

Who has the best food and what are you paying for it? You can break it down other ways...but it ultimately comes back to this.

Celebrity was excellent and I highly recommend them...

Disney...on the other hand...made me "pay for the D"

And...if it were the 70s/80s/90s "way better experience than you'd ever think in a place that has rides"...then I'm ok with it.

But the food was... Frankly...bad. Just wasn't good on a quality or prep scale.

Even thought Remy was far OVERATED...at a large premium up charge compared to other lines/ships.

Maybe I'm tired after all these years of paying for the label? It was not a good value...even though the ship was top notch and the kids activities were convenient.
It's like a mortgage that never ends...

I will look to find my "oasis" the next time the itch hits me

In all honesty you're the first I've heard not like DCL. I have never been on it so I have no say but everyone I know loves it. My uncle has been on royal over a dozen times and loves it, he has been on both the oasis and the allure. I will say tho that Disney is much more expensive as a cruise line compared to others.

First, I have never been on a cruise ship. My team mate is a DVC owner though and has been on the Dream. He said it was "OK". He's also been on an Alaskan cruise on Norwegian. Said it was a much nicer cruise. A colleague at work just did a DCL cruise over Christmas with her extended family. Her comment was, "I'm glad I've done it once, but never again." I think the crowds at the holidays overwhelmed them, the crew and the staff. Her comments about the rude guests, inattentive CMs and poor food quality made me wonder if she actually was on a Disney ship until I saw the pics.

So I think most probably have a great cruise. The only 2 people I know personally have had a bad and a so-so time.

I think this is one of those case where on the "disboards"...you have a captive audience.

The ships are great...the staff was pretty good... The planned activities and variety are excellent..

But the bang for your buck and food - again - just wasnt inline with what it should be.

I think alot of "dcl is great!" Advocates are those that pay rack at the poly - ie they're content In this day and age to smell the smoke without worrying if there's a fire - and that clouds judgement.

Most experience cruisers i know/ have talked to say that Disney is nice...but there are strengths and disadvantages to dcl just as there are the other upscale competitors.

It's actually amazing they've held the pre-2000 price points...which none of the others have.
I think that's more of a reflection of only 4 ships...and again...people paying for " the D"

That makes sense. The biggest complaint I think is price.

Interesting. Yes, cruisers know there are advantages and disadvantages to various cruise lines and several are very highly rated. Cruise Critic is probably the biggest and most respected online cruise community. In a recent large and valued survey by Cruise Critic, Disney scored highest in a large number of categories. It impressed me how highly rated Disney is in the cruise community. I've never done Disney, only Royal Caribbean. It was wonderful. I know a number of people that have done Disney cruises. All raved - and I mean RAVED - about them. This is the only place I have heard negatives.

Go read about Oasis of the Seas and her sister ships. What an amazing mega ship. I've been on Explorer, and it was huge and fun. I cannot imagine Oasis, but I am curious to try!

And that is a huge part of the argument...

They are literally double the competitors price.

Some of that price increase seems very much justified... Some areas seems not even close.

We talk about price here all the time...notable for wdw tickets, food, and rooms...

But a ticket at universal is about $100 and a room at portofino bay is $300 give or take...

If it costs $200 to get into EPCOT... And the beach club was $600...and crappy ribeye at le cellier was $88...

They might have a BIT of a problem selling volume then...

The DCL vessels and cruise are unique and provide a magical cruise no other line comes near too.

The vessel are themed on the great liners of the 20 and 30's, and or top of the line. the food is good to great and we have never been disappointed (given food is very subjective). The service tops and the entertainment the best afloat.

The point here is DCL charge what the people is will pay the same as any company) and they seem to rarely have problems with maintaining high occupancy rates on their cruises. This is because people value what DCL offers.

There is nothing wrong with RCCL, NCL, Celebrity, but they offer the standard cruises and can only charge what people will pay. I will point out that these lines are slowly raising their rates, same as Uni and other Orlando attractions are now.
