Grocery delivery

Hi - our last trip in September we used We Go Shop and had a wonderful experience with them, their service, quality of food, accuracy of order, etc. Because of our experience we just booked them again for our next trip and because we are repeat customers they suggest leaving the order at the bell hop area for convenience. The question is when I gave them my card to charge they asked how much for a tip. I was unsure so said $15, and they said they don't do it by dollar, they do it by %. Unsure I asked what is the norm, he suggested 10-20% of the grocery order. Our last order in Sept was $250 I think, while I don't know how much this order will be, assuming its the same isn't a $25-$50 tip seem a bit much? This is on top of the fee of $39 and a fuel surcharge of $3. What does everyone else do? Opinions please.

We rent a car for the day, shop when we want, where we want and the cost is less expensive than using a service.

We always just send down what we need and buy milk, eggs, etc. at the store in hotel. It is normally the same price or cheaper then the deliveries.

I am with you -- $10-15 tip seems appropriate. It's not like they are preparing your food and delivering to you table! They don't really even have any urgency with regards to delivering the groceries, since they already know in advance when you are arriving. Do the delivery people get paid waitstaff wages? I don't think so.

We have used Garden Grocer (GG) on 3-4 occasions. We love their service, but twice an item was missing and once an item came that we did not order. They remedied the omitted items the next day, but it's not like the tip helped with accuracy of the order. We will definitely use them again, because we like the service.

We have never used WGS, so I was just looking at their pricing structure. It seems a little high, compared to GG, although WGS will shop coupons and charges you the actual grocery receipt, and their delivery fee is their way of making money. I think GG up-charges items on their grocery list and has a flat fee for delivery. When we use GG, we generally hit the $200+ mark, so our delivery fee is only $2. With that, I don't mind giving a decent tip ($10-20). One other thing I like about GG is that there is a discount for ordering in advance. I think 10% at 60 days, 7% at 30 days. We generally order the same things every time, so we have a favorites list which makes it easy to place the order at 60+ days.

If you plan to use WGS, I would just put in a percentage that meets your preferred tip amount. If the order is $300, give 5% for a $15 tip. Although, when I was looking at their website this AM, it appears that a 10% tip is automatic with all orders left at bell services. We always have our order left at bell services by GG, even when it includes beer.

I used Wegoshop for 7 visits and I was very pleased. Last Oct. I had very, very poor customer service from the owners husband - probably the man you spoke with. Such that, I cancelled my order. I will never use them, or recommend them again. I think what he suggests is very high. I was very pleased with Garden Grocer and that is who I will use in the future.

Hi - at this stage in our lives we have a 2 and 3 year old, so renting a car and going to a grocery store is like an act of congress for us. For the next few years I think we need to keep it simple, at least to stay sane. I do love your suggestion and hope to be able to do that in the somewhat near future. Thanks for the advice :)

What exactly do you need to do in order to ship it to your resort? Are there specific instructions and does the hotel hold it for a few days or do you have to arrange for delivery on the exact day you arrive? This is interesting, thank you :)

Yes, it was the owners husband. I was actually sort of embarrassed during the conversation because I didn't want to be too cheap and I also didn't want to spend a lot on it either. It was a bad situation overall :) I will look into Garden Grocer

Great information! Nice to see I'm not alone and not overreacting either. A few have mentioned Garden Grocer, I will certainly look into them as well. I really appreciate your feedback :)

Since we are DVC we know what each room has in it. For us normally we will send down our bowls and plates that we use, since the Studio for DVC only gives your paper plates. We also send down cereal for breakfast and then snacks (fiber1 bars, popcorn, chips and salsa, etc.) we gather everything that we want and a week before our trip we mail the box down to the resort. They will start accepting boxes a week before your stay starts. When we check in we ask for our box, if we get a room when we get there. If not when we get back from the parks we will ask for the box when we get back.

I guess the only other thing is that we know we are staying in DVC so we do know that the gift shop will have what we need.

Why can't one adult go shopping while the other stays in the room with the little ones? Doing your own shopping is also handy when you forget something at home or need a last minute item.

I have used Garden Grocer and been very pleased with them. I have multiple food allergies, so being able to research and select specific products is important to me.

There are a few things they do not carry, though, and which I would prefer not to haul myself. So I have supplemented my GG order with Amazon (I have Amazon Prime) and drugstore.com (I have ShopRunner, though I did it on an earlier trip without), having the order shipped to the resort so it arrives before we do.

The combination of the two works well for us.

We've used Garden Grocer for many trips over several years and have always been pleased.

I don't know when your next trip is but if it is at least 1 month away, Wegoshop currently has a gift certificate. You can buy a $100 certificate for $75. You can't use it for at least 1 month from date of purchase and it is good for 9 months after that.
I am not sure why you were told a percentage is required for gratuity and not an amount. I just put in an order and told them a dollar amount to add for gratuity.
However, I just looked at the website to see if the gift certificates are still available and noticed it says 10% gratuity will be added to all orders left at Bell Service.

very helpful, thank you!

We have used Garden Grocer several times and are using them again on our upcoming trip this June. However, we had an issue with them when I was adding stuff to our cart and went back later to add more stuff. There were items in my cart that I had not added, in fact many items from diapers and baby wipes to a 72 count of cheese and laundry detergent. I had also went through checkout and the order took but the cart would not empty out and allow me to add these items without a double order if I checked out a second time. I called them and they looked into it and finally got it all cleared up but stated they had no idea why it had done this but were going to have the Tech people find out. Just a warning to all. I have checked my order status several times now and gone over the items to ensure this does not happen again and strongly advise others to do the same...smjj

My kids are adults, and we don't make it to the store, either. For me, WDW is expensive and time is money. I think it's cheaper to pay a service than to take the time off from vacation to go to the store.
