Water Proof Cameras

Does anyone have any recommendations for an inexpensive water proof camera? I'm trying to find one that can go down 30 or so feet.

I was thinking about the old school disposable ones (found them on Amazon) but without a flash they're limited to staying pretty close to the surface.

Thanks!

We have a Panasonic Lumix TS3 that we have used for many years and still a great little inexpensive camera. Very happy with it. It also records high definition videos underwater. Just not sure if it's good for 30 feet, I think it's probably less than that (maybe 10 or 20). Another option is to buy a point and shoot like a Canon G series and then buy a waterproof case from Canon. Still cheaper than buying a waterproof case for a DSLR.

I was looking at the Panasonic Lumix TS25, but it's only rated to 23 feet. I don't plan on going much deeper than that, but I'd rather be prepared for the what if then destroying a camera while I take it down to get some amazing photo.

A friend of mine said they will put one of their normal cameras in a ziplock bag and it's worked great while they go scuba diving. I'm a little leery of this idea...

I have put my cell phone inside of a ziploc bag to take pictures when it was raining or close to a waterfall, but I would not do that to a camera and put it underwater...the quality is not so great either. If you want something like that, then you can try the DiCAPac, we used that one time and it worked fine, but I was always nervous about putting my DSLR inside, that's why I bought the Lumix.

That's what we have - the Lumix TS25. It worked find for our snorkeling in St Maarten & Castaway Cay. I don't know how deep I actually went with it, but I doubt it was 30 feet.

Personally, I also don't know that I'd want to risk my regular point and shoot just to a zip loc baggie. That's why we got the Lumix

I just used my Samsung Galaxy note 2 and I bought a waterproof case for from amazon. I had it in the hot tub, I read books on it in the pool and I took a few videos underwater at castaway. Since I can't upload the videos here are a few snapshots.

Thanks for the suggestions!

lucianam got me thinking about a water proof case and I found one my trusty sony that i've had for years. :)

We have a Fuji underwater camera that has served us well for several years. IIRC it was around $120.

There are underwater housings

We have a couple of Panasonic Lumix Tough cameras. Why? Because we have children. They go underwater, can be buried in snow, dropped in sand, even dropped on rocks. Awesome tough little cameras, great price, and fab lenses (Leica). Not sure how deep they are rated, we've only gone 10 ft or so--think it's 23 ft. There is a newer model being released in a couple weeks rated to 26'.

Seriously awesome little cameras.

I have the Panasonic Lumix TS 4 (or 5)

I think its good to 40 feet down, 6.6 foot drop, and 14 degrees Fahrenheit and dust proof

I am good with the picture quality. The newer TS5 does a better job in low light than mine does.P1050950 (1280x766).jpg P1090069.JPG P1080580.JPG

I have used a Fujifilm XP camera both snorkeling and diving. Takes great pictures:) I don't know what it's rated for but it took great pics at a depth of 40ft. It's a tough camera that can be used underwater, in the cold and is also shock proof.

We bought a Lumix TS25. It was on sale at Target because it is an ugly orange color. I think it took great photos. My only recommendation is to bring and extra battery and SD card. This picture was taken at Castaway Cay. I think it turned out great!small star fish.jpg

I purchased an Olympus TG-2 prior to our first cruise. I took such great pictures I got rid of my DSLR like Sony DSC-HX100V. I use the point & shoot Olympus exclusively now. I takes great pictures underwater (to 50 feet):

I would recommend one of the Panasonic Lumix Tough Cameras. I have owned one for several years and even purchased the extra waterproof case so I can take it down to 120-feet when I scuba dive. Below is a picture I took while diving in Cozumel with my Panasonic Touch and waterproof case.
