Spring Break Last Minute?

I'm looking for hotel suggestions and feedback on what it's like to travel to Orlando over Spring Break. We've had it with winter and a very stressful past year, and we are thinking of a last minute trip to Orlando for 5-7 nights in the next two weeks. The flights are convenient and priced well, but I'm not sure if Orlando on spring break will be too much of a rat race to feel like a relaxing vacation, so I'd like to hear from others who have done it this time of year. Specifically, I'm wondering if the traffic will be really congested near Disney and I'm hoping for suggestions for relaxing resorts that are vacation destinations tin and of themselves.

We don't plan to do the parks, but we'd like to stay close to Disney because we have some food allergies and their restaurants do such a good job with that. We just want to get some sun, take our toddler to the pool, and eat some good food--just relax! We would like to have a kitchenette fridge and microwave would do) to make our own meals about half the time, and stay at less than $200/night with all taxes and fees--$150 would be better. We only need one king or queen size bed.

This trip would be different for us--we usually stay on site at Disney and have never rented a car on our previous Orlando trips. We also don't usually travel during peak times. We will be back in late April for a work trip and do the parks then, but right now, we just need to escape winter and the stresses of daily life. I started by searching for beach condos near Tampa and they deemed pretty booked or very expensive, so I'm thinking about getting my Vitamin D and relaxation in Orlando if I can make the logistics work last minute and if it won't be too much of a zoo.

We are going at the end of this month. I would say you can find a place to stay at a reasonable price and enjoy the stay. Totally doable!

Check to see if there is any availability at Wyndham Bonnet Creek. (Try www.vacationupgrades.com or www.vacationstrategy.com). We had a fabulous stay there in August and regretted that we didn't spend more time at the resort because we were mostly at the parks. It is right next to Caribbean Beach Resort and very close to all the other resorts. That would be my choice.

As long as you are not going the 14th to 21st. Most places are sold out. It's crazy. But we really, really love Holiday inn Club Vacations, Orange Lake, and a great place that is close to Disney via Sherbeth Road, and it has so much to do.

I second the Holiday Inn Club Vacations OLCC recommendation. I saw a last minute rental on tugbbs for 20 March to 27. Wish I could make it work pro would have snatched it.

Look on Ebay, there are some options

Thanks--this gave us a lot of good ideas. We weren't able to get a dog sitter for next week :(, so we are going to extend our April trip instead and now I know where to start looking for hotels. We have 4 nights reserved at the Poly, and now I want to find a resort for 4 nights that won't cost as much for some pool time before we move over to the Poly. I'm considering Port Orleans Riverside to be near DTD by boat and the gluten free beignets ;), but that's still over $200/night which is crazy. It seems like I can find a nice condo for $150/night or less with beautiful pools and great amenities so I'll keep shopping.

Our local schools here by Disney are on vacation staring the 20th-30th

oh that is awfully news - going 19-24 - to celebrate my birthday - one day will learn - last time I tried to do my birthday at WDW - it was orange county and osceola county spring break. the parks were way to crowded.

hoping for better this time.

you could definitely get a condo/timeshare for cheaper than $200 a night. now it might not be as close as a Disney resort or Wyndham bonnet creek - but should be definitely less expensive

The Melia suites in Celebration is nice and very close to the parks. It is listing $188 for a 1 bedroom suite on expedia for spring break. And unlike other places that say they are in Celebration, this one actually is:)

We didn't find the spring break crowds too bad. It helps to strategize (e.g., arrive early, go back to hotel mid-afternoon and return after dinner), etc.

I think there are plenty of deals to be had on last-minute hotels, especially through sites like Hotwire and Priceline, and (my new favorite) HotelTonight.com.
