I am going to buy some of the dollar store ponchos...do I buy enough for each day (4) we are in the parks or just a couple days worth??? We will be there the first week of april. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Was just wondering the same thing, wondering how easy they are to re-use. I'm thinking of taking a couple sets for each of us, but not one for each day. I'm hoping they can be reused, and just stick them all in a large ziploc while they are wet, and hang them over the shower in the hotel to dry out.
I have no experience with the Dollar Store kind however, so would love to see your responses to this.

Dollar store one are very thin, so I don't plan on reusing them...just tossing so that is why I am asking how many people think I should bring.

I'll usually bring 3 or 4 max. You won't need them every day most likely. If you plan to use them on water rides, then make sure to have an extra for that day.

We've managed to re-use the dollar ponchos a second day, but I wouldn't plan on it.

It's hard to recommend the disposable ones when you can get enough of these for a whole family for $28.

Dollar Store poncho are great to use and throw away. Last trip we bought some similar to the ones listed above. I folded each one up and stuck it in a quart sized freezer Ziploc bag. Each time we used it...let it dry overnight and stuck it back in the bag. Will use them again and again.

use and throw.
We have never used more than 2 each on a trip.
I also now have a real waterproof rain coat that I bring.
If it is too hot out, I would rather get wet, those plastic ponchos get HOT!

The Disney ponchos are better if you are expecting considerable rain. I usually take a couple of dollar store ponchos each to carry when rain is not expected.

I use the dollar store ones every trip...however only for rides or to sit on. They really do not cover your head all the way for rain nor are they good quality to re-use for anything other than to sit on. I just use them once for each park and toss them. So I bring one for each person, per park for rides or to sit. I also bring a good light-weight poncho for each person in case of real rain. Hope this helps.

The dollar store ponchos are good to take "just in case". For the quick shower that lasts maybe an hour or so. But for a steady rain, I prefer the Disney ones that aren't that expensive and can be reused (we still have our yellow ones so you can calculate how old those are). Also, the Disney ponchos can be put into the washer when you get home (the delicate cycle) and cleaned for the next time.

And if you are doing the "throw away" ponchos, please try to recycle them instead of chucking them.

I like to bring 2 dollar store cheapies per person, in hopes they would get us through unexpected or short-lived showers. If it turns out we're getting an all-day downpour or multiple days of rain, I'll buy the much nicer a Disney ones.

We did the same. :thumbsup2

I've done both ways.
- The dollar store ones I bring enough for one per day with plans at day end to throw away. Odds are they will tear anyway.
- While Disney ones are more pricey they last. Last week I brought some from AK I bought in 2002. Disney ones will fold up and go in the quart size ziploc bag.
- While at parks gift shops will give you a bag to put your wet ones in between rain showers. We shake them off well and put them in the bag. Carry or squish in backpack.

I would probably only bring two per person. I found ponchos in the camping/outdoors section at Walmart for $1 that were much nicer than the dollar store ones.

I would buy good ones, either from Disney for around $8.50, or other reusable ones. You can probably get at least 2-3 trips out of them and it's MUCH better for the environment than buying junky ones, wearing them once and tossing them so that they sit in landfills forever and ever.

I use walmart cheap ones
Reused them without issue by simply folding it up and putting if in a ziplock bag

We've always gone in the summer and there WILL be a shower every day sometime between 4 and 6. I would bring 1 a day. We've never tried to reuse them. If you want to reuse something, get the Disney kind. They're not heavy. I just don't want an extra bag to lug around or a bad big enough to hold reusable ponchos.
