Have loved the show for many years and still do. This last weeks podcast had some awkward chemistry going. Can't quite put my finger on it. I'm not saying you should never disagree with your boss. I think differing opinions are good and fun to listen to. However there is a fine line between fun and crossing into "painful". That one was hard to listen to.

I haven't listened to it yet, but there has been a thread recently on the same issue. Did you watch or listen? It sometimes can make a difference.

I just listen. I commute back and forth. I may watch. I guess the only reason I posted is because they were asking for feedback, so I was throwing in my .02. When Pete and Craig go back and forth, I think it is funny because of Craig's flat affect. When Pete and Kevin go back and forth, Kevin seems to know just how far to push it...and then let it go. When Pete and JL go back and forth, it just gets uncomfortable to listen to. It is the same feeling I get when I am watching YouTube and it is one of those videos where some skateboarder is going to have a major face-plant, and you just want to look away and turn the sound down. Two perfectly great people. but the chemistry is off.

On a positive note, I like the return of the email show.

JL is so new it's hard to say -probably neither one of them has a great feel for the other at this point. I've heard strange exchanges between all members at some point over the years. And the video format changes things a bit -I think part of what your sensing is as much to do with "on air" miscomfort(is that a word?) as any potential chemistry issues.

Exactly . . . they are like family to each other and there are times I have strange exchanges with my own family. And remember in the old days [I've been listening since 2007] when it was only audio, they would edit out those uncomfortable exchanges. I remember Pete and Kevin both talking about the time they got heated with each other while trying to talk about Gay Days on the podcast. BUT, we never knew about it because it was edited out. I have listened to the current podcast twice now and I do understand what the OP is trying to say, but I get the feeling Pete can hold his own.

Yeah it was definitely a bit tense with the Sea World discussion and it did make me cringe a few times. I know exactly what you are talking about!

I think that discussion was one of the better parts of this weeks show. A little discourse helps

Although it can be hard to disagree with the one who writes the check. It's all good.

I watched this week's and I definitely heard the same thing you did. I was actually wondering if maybe JL was apprehensive/offended by all the posts in another thread saying they didn't like her very much. I was very uncomfortable listening to this week's show, and that was affecting her during this podcast. It was very tense and awkward. I finally just turned it off and went back to the older episodes I downloaded from iTunes.

TBH, I don't get the negative comments about JL. Maybe it's because (as far as I can tell anyway) JL and I are similar in age and place in life in general, but I really appreciate her viewpoint. I appreciate the viewpoints of the entire team, of course, but I feel like I relate more to JL's more frequently.

Don't get me wrong, I have noticed awkward moments on some recent podcasts (though this week's wasn't one of them), but I think that's bound to happen occasionally when you have a lot of strong personalities all working together. They aren't all going to agree all the time, and that's OK. It makes the team and the relationships more real to me. We all have awkward/not awesome moments sometimes, even with our spouses and closest friends at times. I love getting my Disney fix with this podcast each week, and sharing it with my daughter as we watch together :)

As a new listener (I have been listening for four months now - and have gone back and watched every single podcast for the past year), I think I can offer up some "new" prospective.

I do get there is tension between the crew. You can clearly see it sometimes. I pick up on body language very well. You can tell JL is nervous at times when trying to explain her family-friendly viewpoint. Kevin and JL clearly do not see eye to eye, but they seem to be OK with each other as people. Surprisingly, Dustin and Craig seem to clash - but you have to watch Dustin's facial expressions to get what I am saying. I personally LOVE Craig's dead-pan reaction and humor, you can tell Pete does not like it AT ALL. John seems to get along with everyone, but if you watch closely enough, he has issues with JL at times. Pete and Kevin do not get along - watch Pete in his interactions - he starts to fidget and wriggles in his seat when Kevin and him do not agree. Kevin is naturally a complainer (which is NOT a negative here) and people tend to get into heated debates with him, but you can tell he picks up on other peoples body queues that he is going too far and stops - it is almost as if Pete or someone else has pulled him aside and told him to stop being so negative during the episode. I like his negative comments because it is true, real (I often think the same as he does when it comes to service expectation) and it is not always going to be sunshine, rainbows and unicorns at Disney.

As for Jeni Lynn - I do NOT agree with her viewpoint a lot of the time, but that is because I do not have children and I am gay. I like listening to her though, it is nice to hear the other side of things. Does she work with this cast? Yes! She is pretty, intelligent and informative.

I do want to say one thing though - one thing I have noticed on the boards here is that old timers (people that live on these boards) defend the cast no matter what and always say that the cast are like family. That is impossible. Pete, John, and Corey are bosses. Everyone has to agree with the boss in order to keep their job. For reasons I will not go into here for fear of being deleted and banned for life - I have noticed that they are touchy about their working relationships and public perceptions.

If Jeni Lynn is reading this - please do not take what we say here to heart. I love you as a crew member, you keep doing what you are doing - good job! We are just talking about the chemistry on the show - which fluctuates and is fluid I am sure.

I wouldn't say with this particular show, but in general, JL very much makes it a point to make her thoughts heard (as opposed to being shushed and moved along).
Some others might just follow lead or quiet down, but she'll finish her thought.

I noticed that if someone starts to talk over her, she will continue with her sentence regardless, which I love.

Wow I had a completely different experience with this episode.

I thought the disagreement during the sea world discussion to be great.

Everybody sounded very respectful and everyone had a chance to make their point known.

I found in much earlier episodes that Kevin and Pete would often seem to force their disagreements down as they both seem pretty stubborn.

However Pete and Kevin both seemed to for the most part disagree with jenni Lynn but were willing to listen and understand each others viewpoints and they all seemed to find some common ground.

Which is great. What's the point of a round table if everyone has the same opinion?

I think you're reading Wayyyy too much into it. I've been listening almost since the begining, and I'm not a defender of the team -I don't feel I need to be, and I'm sure they don't feel I need to be! BUT, I think you may be looking at a snapshot in time when you say Pete and Kevin don't get along ....I don't get that at all. Of course, I don't read people well ...just ask my wife! I respect your opinion and you may very well be right, however the team has had more laughs and good times on the show than they have ever butted heads.

I think maybe we overanalyze too much

It's a Disney podcast. Not "Days of Our Lives"
Good point. Its difficult to interpret the meaning of words/body language when you don't know the players in real life. I believe that everybody is somewhat affected by the camera being pointed at them and the fact that the show doesn't get edited so they have to be a bit careful about what they say and how they say it.

I have to tell you...this is a bit scary.

You might be spending a bit too much time trying to read body language, most of which is probably attributable to the bar height chairs we've been sitting on for 4 + hours. After a couple hour's everyone fidgets.

My advice....just enjoy the show and stop trying trying to figure out the socio-political dynamics. None of us are that deep and your observations are pretty much all incorrect.

Just chill....

 Dude... you need to relax a little. This is insane.

And I'm sorry, but you saying "I pick up on body language very well" and then going into this delusional diatribe made me laugh out loud. It reminds me of college freshmen who took Psych 101 going around diagnosing all their friends.

And no one is going to delete you and ban you for life... you're not that important.
Although I would be happy to recommend some excellent mental health providers in your area! :teeth:

This has nothing to do with the topic being discussed in this thread (which isn't ridiculous at all!) but are you guys really at the table for 4+ hours? Interesting. I guess I just assumed that you all got there like 10-15 minutes before the show starts.
