Celiac Character Meals

Hi All! My family is taking our first trip to WDW this fall, and it's getting close to ADR time! I've done a fair amount of research (surprising, right? ), and I've come up with some options that may work for us. We're only staying 4 nights at WL so we have to pick and choose carefully. We are staying CL, so we want to be sure to take advantage of those offerings too.

I'm torn between these restaurants and would love opinions about the ones you must do, gluten free or not. Our party has two adults, a 7 yo girl, 5 yo boy and an almost 1 yo girl.

Breakfast:
Crystal Palace (although we don't care much about Pooh)
Ohana
Tusker House
Askerhaus

Dinner:
CRT
BOG
1900 Park Fare

I probably want two dinners and two breakfasts. Thanks!

I'm interested to know as well. I am doing research getting ready to make ADRs as well and a member of our party has celiac.

I can't comment on the celiac part of things, but I would pick Tusker House for your first breakfast, it's a great buffet. My second choice if you aren't into Pooh would be Akershus, though I havent been yet, we are trying it this next visit... i've heard good things. If you do Akershus then I would pick BOG and 1900 PF for dinner! FYI all four of those are on my ADRs for my upcoming trip. We are also likely to go to Crystal Palace, but its mostly for Pooh, and it is a beautiful place to eat. I was a bit underwhelmed with CRT, though I am interested in seeing it post-reno, it would be lower on my list. THose are my thoughts!

We haven't traveled with a food allergy situation as of yet but I will share our thoughts on the restaurants. Be Our Guest dinner was great. The salmon is delicious and so are the soups. Akershus breakfast is just ok. Its nice to knock out so many princesses but the food is just ok. I haven't seen good reviews for allergies experiences at Akeshus though which makes me nervous. We love Ohana breakfast. The scrambled eggs, waffles, fruit, sausage, bacon, and potatoes are all delcious. They do tend to take awhile though and we have waited a long time past our ADR on more than one occasion. Tusker House is good but I prefer lunch to breakfast here.

Breakfast: I would not choose Ohana in your situation. We were underwhelmed with the food and service there. If you have to forego the waffles, you are missing out on a big part of the meal. I think there is also another Hawaiian bread-type thing served too. Ohana for breakfast just lacks the nice breakfast variety offered at the other places you listed.
Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare have the best breakfast buffets with the biggest variety. My family loves both of these. Tusker House is nice, but again, check out their menu before you choose this one because I think it is rather starch heavy.

Askerhaus is just not my favorite buffet for any meal, but my husband really likes it. Lunch/dinner here have cheeses and meats, which may be a good option for your dietary restriction.

I would suggest going to BOG for lunch, especially since you have a 1 year old. You can make lunch reservations there now. Dinner is nice but also more of a commitment than lunch. We have a 3 year-old, and BOG lunch is now his favorite.

CRT is a magical experience for any meal. We slightly prefer dinner here. We had dinner once when the fireworks were going outside, and it was fun.
We have not had dinner at 1900 Park Fare, but the menu looks delicious.

If it is your first time to dine at any of the above, you should also put weight based on the characters your children would like to see. Food options will be similar at the bfast buffets, but your kids will spend time enjoying the characters. 1900 Park Fare bfast is very funny!

Also, rather than Ohana, we'd suggest Kona Cafe for breakfast. It is delicious!

We really enjoy Crystal Palace for breakfast. There's a huge variety, it's fresh, and delicious tasting. We like to make an early reservation so we can be admitted into the park early. You can get some great photos without hoards of people in your pictures.

CRT: not a huge fan. I think it's highly overrated and very expensive. We prefer Akershus for dinner. You see the same princesses, the food is so much better, and it's more affordable.

1900 Park Fare: we love dinner here. It's one of my family's favorite restaurants. The food is fresh, there's a huge variety, different offerings than your standard buffet, and the character interaction is the best on the property.

Be sure to make a note on our reservations that a member of your party has food allergens. The chefs will accommodate you very well. They should also walk your family member through buffets and share things you can/cannot eat.

They will bring out gluten free waffles at Ohana. Its one of the few meals that offered them as an option right off the bat plus since the food is served family style and gluten free people get their own platter the cross contamination issues are a lot better than bufett settings. I have heard that chefs will bring foods out from the back at some buffetts but haven't experienced it. Family style service is a lot more relaxing for us than buffett.

Our DD, now grown has not been able to have gluten for many years. We have always had great success at Crystal Palace for both breakfast and dinner, and BOG for dinner. She usually gets a guided tour through the buffet pointing out what she can and cannot have. They have also made her special requests.

I think any restaurant would be able to accommodate the gluten free aspect. The staff/chefs are quite good at showing what one can/cannot eat. Should be ample choices especially at the buffets. For breakfast I would rate the highest to Tusker House and Ohana. If any of your kids love Stitch then Ohana, hands down!! Tusker House (book this one if you wanna see Mickey) is a buffet and Ohana serves family style. We did both in the same trip last fall and I found these both of equal quality in food and characters. If you have princess fans, then Akershus. I don't really care for the food though but the princess experience is one of the best. Another best experience for princesses would be CRT. I would recommend doing this for breakfast instead of dinner for food and price. And then you could book Tusker House for the better value for lunch or dinner. 1900 Park Fare dinner to me has the best character interaction of them all. Especially if you're one to joke and "ham it up" with the characters. Lady Tremaine and the Stepsisters are simply awesome and never break their character roles. You Tube videos will show you what I mean! I haven't eaten at BOG yet for dinner (only lunch) so I cannot give you an opinion on that one.

My dad has celiac's and has eaten at every restaurant on your list except BOG.

We brought my parents along with us on one trip and at every restaurant the chef came out to speak with him about his options. At buffets he was walked through the buffet and then offered additional gluten free items that could be brought out to our table.

He has been to probably 30 different restaurants and had good experiences at all, so I would go with whatever restaurants you want based on theming and not worry about the gluten free options.

Every restaurant we went to was able to accommodate our gluten intolerance. We ate at every place on your list except CRT.

The chef comes out and walks you through the buffet or goes over the menu. If nothing pleased us they made us custom food. We had breakfast and dinner at 'Ohana do NOT skip it because of gluten! They were one of the best accommodations.

This is so helpful! I'm gluten free and its so reassuring to hear how easy it at disney!
