Here in the midwest we accumulated 12 inches of snow today. Expected 6 and we got double that :)
First time Mass was cancelled in I can't even remember.

I know you all southerners get nervous when you hear that four letter word...hehe!

Well I just love it! My middle one Grace, loves it.

The cows love it too. They get all excited and jump around and play. I thought they were going to jump the fence at me tonight. A mix of excitement from the snow and fear of my camera get them all stirred up. This is the one second of calm before they told me to get lost.

The snow must have gone further north. They kept saying we were going to get 7-8 inches and we might have had 5. Supposed to be in the 50s tomorrow with rain. Mid to upper 40s by the weekend and then stay in the 40s for awhile. I hope. Sad part is the "average" high is 50. We haven't been close in weeks.

Maybe this will be the last hoorah and we'll get back to "normal"... what ever that is.

Great pics, BTW. I need to send my son up to visit you. He has a lot of natural skill shooting pics. I think he could actually be pretty good at it with a little formal training. He used to hang out with the track photogs, but I think his learning difficulties made it hard for John (the pro-photog at our events) to show him much and still be able to do his own job.

I have tried to push him towards the photography club at school, but I think our high school is a bit snobbish with club and sport memberships. My DS isn't one of those kids that fits in with the main stream groups very well.

We got another 6 here in NY, this winter is toooooo much. I have to say that your pics are really beautiful. The ones of your children are outstanding.

Thank you!

Beautiful pictures and children! We thought we got a lot of snow here in Tn! But...You would probably laugh at ours!

Jim,

Yes up and down this week with the temps. Suppose to take my DD to Chicago tomorrow to shop for prom dresses but forecast calls for freezing rain early and late so that will most likely be pushed back.

Thanks for the compliment. I taught photography workshops in Chicago a few years back to groups of aspiring newborn photographers. My clients travel from as north as Chicago to as far south as St. Louis and a few from my neighbor state IN. I use be "cool". The business side was overwhelming and it burned me out. Plus everyone now of days has a "photography business"...lol! I like to photograph portrait art and was drowning in requests for silly themes like " I want my baby photographed in a pumpkin." or " I want my child to have a Cat in the Hat theme with all the books". I can't do that. I don't want to do that so I stepped back and took a break. I figured I could continue to run a business and sell my soul for $$$ and put my kids in daycare/school or I could continue to keep my kids at home with me and teach them what really matters in life and do a little work on the side.

It has been a nice two year break and I still photograph past clients when they call me and I'm just now starting to build my website back up little by little. Once our new home is finished (this year) I will most likely take on a little bit more work. We are building an in home studio and this time, I hope to be more defined in what I do/don't do. I just need to figure out how to make that clear without sounding like a snob myself. Another great thing with this new year is our new home, we will be steps aways from all my outdoor areas that I use. I'll have my tree line hedge row year round, open field with round bails year round, wild flower field in spring, clover field and wheat field for summer and fall has abundant options. Hubby has promised to keep clover & wheat fields around the house as much as possible. I know some years I'm going to have to deal with the corn and beans but that's ok.

Photography clubs and groups are great for socializing but independent study is what makes ones work stand out from all the other fish :) Main stream groups never were my thing either and I'm always happy to talk photography.

The Grace standing in 18 inches of snow here (big drift) in 15 temp with no coat and a blanket. She is such a great little model and knows how to work the camera. I'm taking on a personal photography project this year and this session was the start of it.

That white stuff looks horrible! It actually falls from the sky!?
I bet it makes a heck of a racket when it hits the ground.

Good looking pics though. They got my wife's approval, and that is saying a lot!

Funny stuff right there!:rotfl:

Sounds like you can blame Anne Geddes and others for that. They are cute pics, but I'm sure people have no idea what it takes to get those pics.

I independent study is what makes ones work stand out from all the other fish :)
That's where my DS struggles. Visual (and some auditory) comprehension is not great. He is clearly a "hands on" learner. He'll watch it and then do it.

All I can say is 'Damn!'. Great subject content, but the photo is fantastic!

Nice pictures. Glad you guys can still enjoy the snow!

We usually enjoy the first snowfall of the year but it gets old fast. In the past month alone here in MA we have gotten about 100" and barely any melting. I have a ton of stuff I need to do on the RV maintenance wise and I am getting worried that I may not get it all done before our next trip because the rig is literally buried. I may have to hire a guy with a backhoe to dig it out just so we can get it out of the driveway. "Snow" is now a four letter word in our house.

Well I like my 12 inches but no thank you on the 100 inches. You can hire us, we have a backhoe. When I say we, I usually mean hubby.

What are you going to do? I wanna see a pic! I think you would need some machinery to get you out...

I know what you mean about the cutesy baby pictures. DS was premature and the NICU staff took his picture in a plastic trick or treat pumpkin. I wouldn't have chosen to do that but everyone else loves that picture. My DD(14 in 2 weeks & also named Grace!) has recently become interested in landscape (& sunrise/sunset) photography. She took this one along with my avatar picture (lake near our home) with her old phone. I think she has an artistic eye but we also live in a beautiful place. This is taken from the front yard of the cabin on my parents' farm.

But, why do the children have those red things on their ears?
My dad has has a hobby farm and has lost 3 of his babies due to weather related issues this year. Often, for Christmas, I'll buy things for his cows instead of him since he says he doesn't need anything. One year, they got an ear tagger gun thingy for Christmas. Last year, they got another mineral salt block. When my dad sees DH lugging it in, he just tells him to put it on the back porch. He doesn't even bother unwrapping it now. :)

I wanna see a pic!

Well, not sure what we are going to do besides pray for some melting and break out the shovels. If not, hiring guy with a backhoe isn't off the table. Sorry for my cell phone pics but here you can see how the RV is burried and even worse, the second pic is directly behind it and where that buried SUV is. We need to back directly to the tree line there to swing out toward the road with the RV. I have so many things I want to get done like generator maintenance, oil change, brake fluid flush etc and I'm running out of time. 6 more inches forecast for tonight!!! UGH!

It's 80 degrees here in MS today...breeze is blowing...

of course, they are giving us freezing rain and snow within the next 24 hours...
See, we have these wild weather shifts. Like today it's 80 degrees and I am out in the yard in shorts washing the camper getting ready to go camping next week for spring break. Tomorrow, a high of 32 and low of 23. 50-60 degrees difference! By Sunday, back in the 60's...

and what is that tall white thing in the last picture? The one on top of that glacier I assume is your front yard.

With temp shifts like that, something might crack!

That glacier is actually covering a Mercury Mountaineer under it. The power steering let go 2 days before the blizzard and now it's not going to get fixed until after the ice age.

There's a car under there!? Holy Cow

I thought the buried grill was impressive

We would being out the heavy machinery for this stuff! And again, when I say "we" I mean hubby.

Looks like you have a snow blower, can you start chipping away at it with that?

Start looking for some help my DIS friend!

Yes, the snow blower made some of those mountains. There was no where else to throw the snow which is why they started piling behind the RV. I may be able to do some of it with the blower but it's just too deep in most spots and after a few rains followed by freezing, much of it is ice and the blower can't handle it. They are finally forecasting days above freezing next week and beyond so I am hopeful that it will start melting a little bit and allow me to shovel enough to get by. If by the last week of March I'm not seeing improvement, I'll call a backhoe or something. Dynamite, drilling, flame throwers, whatever it takes. We are getting to the Fort!

As I type, it is snowing heavily and we are already at another 6" or so for the day alone. I've lived here my whole life and I've seen big storms before but not the constant barrage we've had for over a month now. It sounds crazy but for once I am glad that I hadn't booked our trip any sooner because I don't think we could have made it if it were.
