As a new listener who LOVES listening to and watching podcasts, here are my thoughts:
Things that need improvement:
1. The roundtable format is a bit...rigid. The most interesting podcasts that make me keep coming back are the ones that have a looser, unscripted format, because then it is more like a talkshow.
2. News seems to drag on at times
3. Housekeeping should be limited to a few items - I have sat there listening to housekeeping for up to 10 minutes before - holy cow!
Things that are going well:
1. The cast - great group - love them all.
2. The length of time is perfect - more than an hour would bore me to tears
3. I like the video and audio quality, this cannot get any better!
Suggestions:
1. Segments that are not in every single episode, something like "You got Email!" this could be every episode, or whenever something really cool presents itself.
2. Instead of listing off the most popular topics - actually address the topics and call out peoples comments. That would include the boards and show people you are actually involved in the boards. There are some people that you never see on the boards, like Ironically - Dustin who started this thread - in almost 10 years - he has had only 261 posts, but I am sure he reads the boards more than anyone - it would be nice to hear their opinion on the popular stuff.
3. I know that the podcast is geared toward Disney info, and that is great, but I think more informative items would have a greater benefit to the audience. By informative, I mean - incorporate some history of Disney, little known factoids, or what to expect when you arrive at X resort or what to expect when you get in a character line and how to prepare for it better.
4. One podcast I watch is really cool because they incorporate fake commercials sent in by viewers. The format is more like a talkshow, and at certain points, they go to commercial (mind you these are NOT real commercials) they are commercials that are in character for World of Warcraft - one listener always plays an orc trying to teach you how to cook up a mage and always fails miserably, another is a commercial for how to train your dragon - which always has the best one liners! Including your audience in this way would be very entertaining - can you imagine a listener dressed as Elsa costume trying to teach you the proper way to clean your bathroom using nothing but pixie dust in a pinch...it's a good thing!? This concept alone would include your audience and incorporate other peoples creativity.
5. Surprise guests are nice! A guessing game goes on all episode long, hints being dropped here and there - building up the anticipation, then ... BAM! the CEO of Disney pops in LOL - or a check-in agent or whoever.
6. Interviewing cast members and asking questions everyone wants to know - like if you had a ticket booth attendant, asking them the craziest customer experience they have ever had or the funniest thing they have ever heard from a guest. Working in these positions gives them so many stories that they never cease to amaze others!
7. A game show every now and then would be cool!
8. A compliments and complaints segment - Kevin can do the complaints and Theresa can do the compliments.
9. Each time a lawsuit comes up - actually hold a courtroom show - where Pete comes in in a robe holding a gavel, the case is read out loud, Dustin "charges" Disney, and Craig defends Disney with logic and then Pete passes judgement
10. Have a spotlight on GKTW once in a while that showcases a case that will compel people to give to this awesome charity
Marketing is all about the keeping it relevant to the viewer. You will need to change things up, give into some of the craziness and never forget that your audience is human - we all love a good laugh, or cry and we all need to be entertained.
I really hope you give the commercial idea some thought, and with that I bid you adieu!
Keep up the good work!
