Hi Emily!! Thanks for checking in!Just checkin' in quick to say hi and that I'm subbed in and will catch up soon! Very excited to hear about your cruise!!
Day 2: Sunday, July 20, 2014, Part 4 (Our stateroom)
It was closing in on 1:30, which meant that our room should be ready!
For my first cruise in September 2013, one of my roommates ended up dropping out, meaning that my BFF and I ended up with a category 4D all to ourselves! Lots of space for 2 people. I liked both it and the location (mid-ship) so much that we booked the same thing for this cruise. This was part of my plan to get Will addicted to cruising - I wanted that same location and all of that space!!
Home sweet home! (You can see another bit of schemin' to get Will addicted to cruising - adult dining! )
Lovely!
Will was very impressed with the room! You can see he is getting in some last-minute quality time with his phone. We were both looking forward to being unplugged for a few days, though! (Having said that, I did use the DCL app while onboard and liked it.)
Castaway Club gift for meeeee! Beach bag with a magnetic dry erase board (which now lives on our fridge), marker and highlighter.
My pictures of the bathroom didn't come out well, but we had a split bathroom with the rainfall shower/round tub. Split bathrooms are a must!
Current view from the verandah:
I'd ordered a few things for our room - a bottle of champagne for our anniversary and some bottled water. And by that I mean...my Travel Agent ordered them for me.
There were some other things waiting for us in the room as well - Rainforest Room passes (more on that later) as well as documents for our onboard credits. Now...without going into too much detail, there was a mix-up with our credits (someone - ahem - stiffed us when they shouldn't have. Not impressed ). My TA warned me that this could happen ahead of time, so I was sort of expecting it. And even though it wasn't her fault, she fixed it and made it right.
Okay...I need a snack. Cheese plate! I mean, really - pick up the phone and a CM brings you cheese. I think this went a long way in Will warming up to this whole cruising thing.
I really wanted to check out the kids' clubs before it was muster drill time. What did we do instead? We fell asleep. For, like, an hour+! Oops!
By the time we woke up it was almost muster drill time! But our bags weren't there yet!
I was starting to panic and just so happened to pop my head out the door to find my suitcase being wheeled down the hallway about 10 minutes before mustering...followed by Will's. Whew!
Then it was muster time. We had an outside station.
If you ask Will, I think he'll tell you that this was one of his least favorite parts of the cruise (the other comes up on Castaway Cay day). It was hot, we were all bunched together, and people from our station were late - 3 staterooms! We ended up having to go through the entire drill twice. Come on, people - be on time!
Post-muster:
Okay, so we have mustered (some of us have mustered twice...). Time for the Sail Away party!
Uh-oh...this doesn't look good:
Nope nope nope nope nope nope
Let's not focus on that. Let's focus on the party!
As you can see, we didn't get a great vantage point. Oh well, whatever. We could see well enough to know that the main guy running the Sail Away party was, like, super impressively energetic. Dude was jumping around and dancing everywhere, even in the July heat. It was hilarious!
I think these people had the right idea:
So the party went on, and we got to the part where we counted down to Sail Away...
And we counted down...
And the horn played...
And we just stayed put. Most anti-climactic Sail Away ever!! What the heck?! It was funny because I was sure Will was getting super nervous, because here we were - Sail Away. It's go time. The ship's leaving. And he was actually disappointed that the horn played and nothing happened! Not gonna lie...I was too. But hey, at least we didn't get rained on.
We had early seating on this cruise, so we headed back to the room to unpack a bit and get ready for dinner. Somehow I missed this (maybe I was in the bathroom or something?) but Will informed me at some point that he saw people running on to the ship - so I guess that's why we didn't sail away. Weird!!

Thank you!! Yes isn't DCL addicting?!I have joined in and thoroughly enjoying your TR!! We were on the Dream in January 2015 and CANNOT wait to go again next year!
We actually did NOT end up keeping the Deck 2 room. I ultimately left the decision up to my husband and he decided he really wants a room with a balcony.Would love to know if you kept the deck 2 room?! We are planning to do the same thing on our next cruise (downgrade from a balcony to deck 2 ocean view room to save some $).
Ugh, I know! The first and last nights on the 2 cruises I have been on have been a little rougher, so at least I really know to expect that now.Awesome looking meals! I always have a rough start and end to cruises. It seems like when the ship moving fast that I start to feel off. I get a little dizzy and can't walk. It amuses my son to no end. I take Bonine the day before we embark and every night at bedtime. This keeps it to a minimum. Can't wait to hear what you thing of the rainforest no Remy. We are going to Remy for the first time next cruise.
That 11- or 12-night Mediterranean itinerary on the Magic is still my dream cruise...

We discussed it quite a bit during the cruise and decided that the rooms just down the hall from ours might be a good compromise - they still have verandahs and are still mid-ship (which is one of our big must-haves), just a little smaller than what we were booked in on the Dream. So ultimately we setlled on a Category 5C (Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah) - losing about 50 square feet of space compared to our 4D room on the Dream. It's still PRETTY pricey but we think the verandah is worth it...especially for a longer itinerary. I'd definitely be open to trying the Deck 2 porthole room at some point, but probably on a shorter cruise.
