Serious over charge from Disneyland Paris

I recently re-booked my trip through the UK site (as many of you may have read). I am from the US and was expecting a difference between Euros to Dollars on my credit card.

The cost for the trip, in Euros, was around $1230. When I looked at the conversion, my credit card should have been charges around $1300+. I received a charge on my card for $1900. That's a $600 difference. I've contacted my bank about it.

Has anyone seen this before? Is it really $1900? I'm very confused about this.

If you bought your stay on the UK site you will have paid in £-pounds not in € as the UK isn't part of the Eurozone. So you'd have to check the £/$ exchange rate to see the real cost. Check also with your bank how much they charged you for using your card to pay for a foreign transaction and what is their exchange rate.

I have booked using other countries sites before (French & Spain) and the amount charged in GBP has always been roughly what I'd worked it out to be when converting it to EUR.

Does your bank normally charge anything on international transactions as it may be something to do with their policies rather than the DLP website - although I can't see how that would ever work out to be that much more!

I hope you get to the bottom of it soon!

Chase does charge a 3% transaction fee for international transactions.. and that charge showed up separately for around $50. I'm thinking some program seriously screwed up the exchange amount. My big problem is I moved from Georgia to Massachusetts in November and Chase doesn't have any branches up here.

If it was £1230 which it would have been as you pay in pounds on the UK site with todays exchange rate it's 1884.10$ so for me that's the correct amount.

If it had been reserved on the French site you would have been invoiced in € which would have been converted into $ giving you 1230€ as 1368.55$

When we booked on the UK site last year, we were charged in pounds, so I feel certain that's what has happened to you. Look at your email confirmation, it will say there. For what it's worth, Capitol One does not charge foreign transaction fees, so you may want to consider getting one for your trip! And a chip and pin card!! I can't stress that enough.

I've got the chip and pin card already.. I can deal with the 3%, what's the symbol for pounds? Is that the L thingy?

Well, crud.. that must have been the difference.. it WAS Pounds, not Euros.. I ended up spending over $600 more than I should have. This is NOT good.. but oh well, it's my 50th and it only happens once a lifetime.

Oh dear, it's an easy mistake to do when you're booking in foreign currency. I hope it still works out cheaper for you than your original $ booking?

As you say it's a once in a lifetime trip so I am sure it will more than make up for the extra cost you've incurred!

Actually.. with the meal plan included, it will probably come close to what I would have paid out of pocket.
